CM Stalin to hold one-on-one with DMK functionaries from June 13
CHENNAI: Chief Minister MK Stalin will begin one-on-one interactions with party functionaries from each Assembly constituency at Anna Arivalayam in Chennai from Friday as part of preparations for the 2026 Assembly election.
The initiative has been named 'Udanpirappe Vaa'.At the DMK's general council meeting held in Madurai on June 1, Stalin had announced that he would personally meet functionaries from all ranks across the 234 constituencies in the state.
Accordingly, he is scheduled to interact with functionaries from Villupuram, Chidambaram and Usilampatti on Friday. Functionaries from the district level down to union and town secretary levels have been invited. The meetings will begin at 10 am and continue until the afternoon.
According to sources, Stalin is expected to listen to the grievances and views of party cadre to gain a deeper understanding of local dynamics, both within the party and in their constituencies. The interactions will also give him feedback on the performance of local MLAs and ministers. These meetings will offer Stalin an early indication of potential candidates for the 2026 elections, sources said.
During the interactions, Stalin will emphasise on strengthening the party's grassroots presence by pushing the membership drive, with a target of enrolling 30% of the electorate in each booth as DMK members, sources added.
'If these interactions are held in the presence of district secretaries, many may not feel comfortable expressing their thoughts freely. Even if it is just for a minute, the CM should hold individual meetings with each functionary. Only then will he get a true picture of the ground realities,' a functionary from Cuddalore told TNIE. He also warned that some district secretaries might brief or influence the cadre ahead of the meeting, discouraging them from raising contentious issues or voicing complaints.

The padayatra would focus on the right to social justice, women's right to live a life free from violence, right to employment, right to pursue farming and food, right to demand development, right to access public services, right to health and education, right to live a life free from alcohol and drugs, right to sustainable development and right to a healthy environment.

Stalin holds one to one meet with functionaries
Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin kicked off his one to one interaction with party functionaries from assembly constituencies on Friday at the party headquarters here as part of his measures to strengthen the rank and file ahead of 2026 assembly elections. It was the turn of functionaries from three assembly constituencies – Chidambaram, Villupuram and Usilampatti, who met Stalin on the first day of the initiative titled 'Udanpirappe Vaa.' DMK sources said Stalin met those functionaries together but spoke to each of them and sought their views on the party's strength as well as challenges in their respective constituencies. There were union, town and branch secretaries with whom Stalin spoke for about roughly five mts each. He was particular about the reach of the govt's welfare schemes and their impact among the voters. Stalin had also sought to know the expectation of the people in those constituencies. In addition, he asked about the functioning of the MLAs and whether there were any intra party tiffs among functionaries. DMK men said that Stalin gave a patient hearing to all that they said and asked them to work harder for the success in 2026 polls. The functionaries had also requested Stalin to retain a few segments that were allotted to allies in the 2021 election with DMK in 2026. Stalin had reiterated the significance of booth level election work and the need to convince people to support DMK. While the exercise has come as a morale booster for the functionaries as they met Stalin in close quarters and interacted, it is also intended to assess the performance of the sitting MLAs and decide on the candidates for the assembly election, say partymen. TN govt forms panel to examine impact of SC ruling on promotions
Chennai: The Tamil Nadu govt has formed a committee, led by retired judge G M Akbar Ali, to assess the impact of a 2019 Supreme Court ruling on promotions in govt jobs related to reservation policies. For many years, TN has prepared rank lists for govt recruitment based on social justice principles. This includes reservation for BC, BC Muslims, MBC and Denotified Tribes, SC/ST. Seniority was determined using a 200-point roster system, considering merit within each of these categories for promotions. However, a Supreme Court ruling on April 18, 2023, which arose from a contempt petition and related cases, changed this process. The ruling mandates that seniority for all employees recruited through the state public service commission since March 10, 2003, must be determined solely on merit. This change has created obstacles to social justice, according to a govt order issued on Wednesday. The newly formed committee has a specific set of tasks. "It will study existing practices, analyse the changes resulting from the Supreme Court order, and predict future impacts. The committee will also analyse relevant data. It will provide legal solutions and recommendations to the govt," the order said, highlighting the objective to ensure social justice in govt jobs for all categories of employees.
