Bondi dismisses charges against doctor accused of faking vaccination records

Yahoo2 days ago
Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Saturday that she is dismissing the criminal charges against a Utah plastic surgeon who was currently on trial for allegedly issuing fake Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 vaccination records cards to people who sought fake vaccine cards.
Dr. Michael Kirk Moore, whose criminal trial was currently underway in Utah, was indicted by the Justice Department in 2023. Moore, his medical corporation and three co-defendants were accused of allegedly destroying more than $28,000 worth of government-provided COVID-19 vaccines and distributing at least 1,937 falsely marked COVID-19 doses on vaccine cards in exchange for direct cash payments or donations to a charitable organization.
Moore pleaded not guilty to the charges, while one of his co-defendants entered into a plea agreement for a misdemeanor charge and another co-defendant entered into a diversion agreement. One co-defendant is currently on trial with Moore. A Justice Department spokesperson did not respond to questions on whether or not the charges against them would be dropped as well.
In court filings, attorneys for Moore argued that the CDC vaccine regulations in place were unconstitutional.
The Biden Justice Department alleged that Moore was not administering COVID-19 vaccines in exchange for the payment, and was administering saline shots to minors, at the request of their parents, so children would think they were receiving a vaccine dose.
Moore and his co-defendants were also charged with conspiracy to convert, sell, convey, and dispose of government property; and the conversion, sale, conveyance, and disposal of government property and aiding and abetting for their efforts to forge the vaccine cards.
The fake cards were sold for $50 each, charging documents said, during the scheme they allegedly operated between May 2021 and September 2022.
"Dr. Moore gave his patients a choice when the federal government refused to do so. He did not deserve the years in prison he was facing. It ends today," Bondi wrote on X, thanking Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who has a history of casting doubts on the efficacy of COVID vaccines, for raising awareness of his case. "She has been a warrior for Dr. Moore and for ending the weaponization of government," Bondi wrote.
In a post on X on Saturday, Greene called Moore a "hero who refused to inject his patients with a government mandated unsafe vaccine!"
It was not immediately clear if the charges were being dismissed for Moore's co-defendants.
The announcement comes as the department is facing uncertainty after a clash between Bondi and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino over a Justice Department review of the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, which led to Bongino not showing up for work on Friday, as sources say he is considering leaving his post over the dispute.

Florida man convicted of killing 2 people outside a bar set to be put to death

A Florida man who was convicted in the 1993 shooting deaths of a man and woman outside a bar as part of an attempted revenge killing is set to be executed on Tuesday. Michael Bernard Bell, 54, is scheduled to be put to death by lethal injection at Florida State Prison near the city of Starke, unless he is granted a last-day reprieve. Bell was convicted in 1995 and sentenced to death in the killings of Jimmy West and Tamecka Smith. In December 1993, Bell spotted what he suspected was the car of the man who had killed his brother earlier that year, according to court records. Bell appeared to be unaware that the man had sold the car to West. Bell called two friends and armed himself with an AK-47 before locating the car parked outside a liquor lounge and waiting for the vehicle owner to come outside. When West, Smith and another woman eventually exited the club, Bell approached the car and fired his gun, according to officials. West died at the scene and Smith succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital. The other woman was not injured. Witnesses reported that Bell also fired at a crowd of onlookers before fleeing the scene. Bell was arrested the following year. He was also later convicted of three additional murders that happened prior to the shooting at the bar. He fatally shot a woman and her toddler in 1989, and he killed his mother's boyfriend about four months before shooting West and Smith, officials said. Attorneys for Bell have filed appeals with the Florida Supreme Court and the U.S. Supreme Court. In their state filing, the attorneys argued that Bell's execution should be blocked because of newly discovered evidence concerning witness testimony. But justices unanimously rejected the argument last week, citing what they described as overwhelming evidence of Bell's guilt. Bell's attorneys filed a similar petition with the U.S. Supreme Court on Thursday, although the nation's highest court has not yet issued a ruling as his execution time nears. Bell would be the eighth person executed in Florida this year, and a ninth is scheduled for later this month. The state put six people to death in 2023, but only one execution happened last year. Across the U.S., 25 men have been executed so far this year, matching last year's total. Florida has executed more people this year than any other state, while Texas and South Carolina are tied for second place with four each. The states that follow are Alabama with three executions and Oklahoma with two, while Arizona, Indiana, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee each have put one person to death.

5 Foods to Avoid After 5 P.M. If You Struggle with Constipation, According to Experts

Reviewed by Dietitian Katey Davidson, RD, CPT1. Choosing the right foods to eat before bedtime can help prevent constipation. 2. Avoid foods high in fat and low in fiber to improve digestion, especially at night. 3. Establishing a consistent night routine can help improve bowel you're already dealing with constipation, the last thing you need is a nighttime snack that makes things worse. What you eat before bed can have a surprising impact on your digestion, and in some cases, it might be the reason you wake up feeling even more backed up. Nearly 16% of adults in the U.S. suffer from constipation, and that number doubles after the age of 60. While fiber and hydration are key for keeping things moving, certain foods—especially when eaten right before sleep—can slow digestion even more. We spoke with digestive experts to learn which foods are the worst to eat before bed if you have constipation, plus what to choose instead. 'If you're prone to constipation, it's best to steer clear of high-fat foods before bed—think cheese, processed snacks or heavy takeout,' says Samantha DeVito, M.S., RD, CDN. 'These types of meals can slow digestion and may make things worse overnight when your gut naturally slows down.' Even large servings of nut butters before bed can be problematic, according to Kerry Conlon, M.S., RD, a dietitian specializing in digestive diseases. 'Although they are healthy fats, eating too much nut butter before bed can slow down gastric emptying, which means food moves through your digestive system slowly, which can lead to constipation,' she explains. Your digestive system follows a circadian rhythm, or 24-hour clock, meaning it's more active during the day and winds down at night. Eating foods that are high in fat too close to bedtime can delay stomach emptying and reduce the natural morning urge to go. Instead, choose lighter, high-fiber meals in the evening to support regularity and work with your body's natural rhythm—not against it. If you're used to having a nightcap or a glass of wine before bed, you may want to rethink it if you're not as regular as you'd like to be. Alcohol acts as a diuretic by lowering levels of vasopressin—a hormone that helps your kidneys hold on to water. When vasopressin is suppressed, your body loses more fluid through frequent urination, which can lead to mild dehydration. Dehydration can cause harder, drier stools that are more difficult to pass. Drinking alcohol can also disrupt your sleep, says Mikhail Yakubov, M.D., a board-certified gastroenterologist at Manhattan Gastroenterology. 'Sleep and digestion are closely linked through your body's circadian rhythm,' says Yakubov. 'Poor sleep quality or insufficient rest can slow gut motility, making it harder to have a morning bowel movement.' Refined grains like white bread, white pasta, white rice and desserts may be a comforting nighttime snack, but they can make things worse if you're feeling backed up. These foods are stripped of most of their fiber during processing, which means they lack the bulk that helps move stool through the digestive tract. 'Fiber acts as a broom sweeping through to help keep us regular and remove waste products,' says Rhyan Geiger, RDN. 'Highly processed foods that are low in fiber may contribute to slower digestion and movement through the system, causing constipation,' Conlon adds. Instead, opt for high-fiber fruits like kiwi or dates or high-fiber grains such as oats. Protein is an essential nutrient that everyone needs, but not all proteins are created equal—especially when it comes to digestion. 'Many of the high-protein snacks on the market—such as protein bars, cookies, pretzels and chips—contain protein isolates and sugar substitutes that can contribute to uncomfortable bloating and gas in people with sluggish digestion,' says Conlon. While these foods are a convenient way to increase your protein intake, they may cause constipation in some people. Conlon recommends chia pudding as a high-protein, high-fiber snack to enjoy before bed. 'Dairy-based snacks like yogurt, milk and cheese might contribute to constipation if you're sensitive to lactose or have a tendency toward sluggish digestion,' says DeVito. These foods contain protein and fat that take longer to break down in your digestive system. While slower digestion can help keep you feeling full longer for some people, it can be challenging if you already struggle with regular bowel movements. If you notice that dairy products tend to leave you feeling backed up, especially in the evening, it's a good idea to limit how much you consume before bed. Choosing lactose-free alternatives or plant-based options can be easier on your digestive system and may help support smoother digestion overnight. Eat a light snack rich in fiber and fluids. DeVito recommends berries with probiotic-rich kefir or a small bowl of oatmeal with chia seeds. Establish a nighttime routine for good sleep. 'A consistent sleep schedule helps. Your gut thrives on routine just like the rest of your body,' says DeVito. Go to bed and wake up at the same time every day to help maintain bowel regularity. Practice gentle movement. Conlon recommends some form of light movement after dinner to encourage digestion, such as walking. Studies show that higher levels of activity are associated with a lower risk of constipation. Eat consistent meals and snacks. 'The timing of your meals matters when it comes to bowel regularity,' says Conlon. Avoid eating too close to bedtime and aim to spread meals and snacks evenly throughout the day. Just as there are things that can relieve constipation, there are some things that could be making it worse, particularly things you consume before bed. Much like your sleep, your digestion operates on a circadian rhythm, with things naturally slowing down at nighttime. Eating foods that slow digestion or drinking alcohol before bed can worsen constipation and leave you feeling even more backed up in the morning. Since everyone responds differently, some trial and error may be needed to find which foods are best to avoid before bed. Read the original article on EATINGWELL

Firebrand evangelical pastor John MacArthur dies at 86

John MacArthur Jr, an influential figure in American evangelicalism, died at 86 on Monday after a series of illnesses. MacArthur led Grace Community Church in California for 56 years, building a vast following through his popular 'Grace to You' radio ministry and authoring hundreds of books and biblical commentaries. Widely recognised for his verse-by-verse preaching style, he was often hailed as 'the world's premier expositor', according to The Roys Report. His death was announced by Phil Johnson, longtime head of MacArthur's media ministry and editor of many of his books. MacArthur had undergone multiple heart and lung surgeries over the years and was hospitalised earlier this month with pneumonia. Revered for his uncompromising, fundamentalist theology and Calvinist doctrine, MacArthur also founded and expanded The Master's University (earlier named Los Angeles Baptist College). His ministry's slogan was 'Unleashing God's Truth, One Verse at a Time'. While deeply influential, MacArthur's legacy is also marked by controversy – including alleged mishandling of abuse cases, misogynistic remarks, plagiarism claims, and clashes with authorities over Covid-19 restrictions. An ardent opponent of feminism, LGBTQ rights, and evolution, he was central to the resurgence of Calvinism in the US, Baptist News Global reported. In his later years, MacArthur became an increasingly vocal figure in America's cultural and political battles. He condemned critical race theory and emerged as a prominent evangelical critic of 'wokeness'. Though Grace Community Church initially closed at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, it soon defied California's public health orders by resuming indoor services, prompting a legal standoff that ended with the state and Los Angeles County paying an $800,000 settlement over alleged violations of religious freedom. 'Evangelicalism is a pulpit-driven movement, and John has driven the most influential pulpit in evangelical Christianity for more than a half a century,' R Albert Mohler Jr, the president of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, in Louisville, said in an interview earlier this year, according to The New York Times. I had the privilege of meeting Pastor John in 2019. Then, I attended The Master's Seminary for a few semesters where I learned (and still use) MacArthur's deep system for biblical differed on eschatology and other secondary doctrines but he still remains one of my… — Dale Partridge (@dalepartridge) July 15, 2025 MacArthur was the son of Jack MacArthur, an independent fundamental Baptist preacher and radio host known for 'The Voice of Calvary'. Deeply influenced by his father, MacArthur attended Bob Jones College before transferring to Los Angeles Pacific College. He earned a Master of Divinity from the Biblical Institute of Los Angeles (now Biola University and Talbot School of Theology), where he later became a faculty representative. After graduation, he worked with his father's ministries and was ordained by the Independent Fundamental Churches of America. In 1969, Grace Community Church in Sun Valley appointed MacArthur as its youngest and third pastor. Our hearts are heavy, yet rejoicing, as we share the news that our beloved pastor and teacher John MacArthur has entered into the presence of the Savior. This evening, his faith became sight. He faithfully endured until his race was run.2 Timothy 4:1-8 — Grace to You (@gracetoyou) July 15, 2025 Under his leadership, the church expanded rapidly, and his preaching led to the creation of the 'Grace to You' media ministry, which now broadcasts in nine languages on over 2,400 stations. He also led The Master's University and authored the bestselling 'MacArthur Study Bible' – which has reportedly sold more than four million copies. Though he received an honorary doctorate from Biola in 1977, some criticised his use of the 'Doctor' title. Critics also accused MacArthur of oversimplifying scripture, arguing that his insistence on a single, definitive interpretation of even the Bible's most complex passages misled listeners. But to his followers, that was precisely his strength. MacArthur 'inspired thousands of pastors to believe that explaining what the Bible means honours God, saves people and is just plain interesting,' John Piper, a retired pastor and popular theologian in Minnesota who was a longtime friend, told The New York Times. 'To this day, from Dallas to Dubai, young people (especially men) come up to me and say that they listen to John MacArthur.' 'Grace To You' ministry website noted: 'While this is a profound loss, our commitment – our plan – has not changed. As the Lord sustains this work, Grace to You will always and only distribute the Bible teaching of John MacArthur.' He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Patricia, along with four children, fifteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
