As I type this, only two sleeps to go till I get my Switch 2. I have sold my old Switch and sent all data to the cloud to redownload it on my Switch 2. I have sold my Xbox Series X too. It's my birthday next month on July 4th and it's Father's Day in less than two weeks.
So, I have called all that early. In short, I am not paying a penny for my Switch 2, and I am getting mine at midnight on Thursday morning, at Smyths toy store in York. I pre-ordered mine on April 4th. I know you like photos of midnight launches so I will provide another email come Thursday morning. I have Thursday and Friday off work too.

GC: That'd be neat, thanks.
Last minute purchase
Count me one of the lucky ones. Managed to get me a last minute Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle pre-order from Very (fingers crossed no mess ups). I had resigned myself to getting it next year at the earliest, since myself and my wife are saving up to decorate our daughter's room. However, I managed to get it as buy now pay in 12 months time and will reduce my monthly spends to pay it off.
It also came with Street Fighter 6, which I wouldn't usually have been fussed with but actually since I can split the Joy-Cons it might be fun to play against the kids or my wife, if they'll indulge me. I've got extra personal cash for the month, that I might use getting some other bits. I intend to upgrade Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom to the Switch 2 version.
I might also get Fast Fusion or buy a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, as I've always fancied trying out Wind Waker. If only I had some time off work. It comes out in the middle of a stretch and I'm also working the weekend.
If anyone else is still struggling to get a pre-order I'd try Very as they seem to have a few bundles in stock and seem to replenishing stock too.

GC: Very has been the most reliable shop through all this, for some reason. Don't forget that if you get Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack you'll get the Zelda upgrades for free.
Non-disclosure agreement
It's disappointing that Switch 2 reviews, for both the console itself and its launch games, aren't yet available.
I've read that either the review embargo for the Nintendo Switch 2 and its launch day games are very close to launch day or that journalists haven't been given Switch 2s prior to launch, or the day one patch means reviews aren't possible until after launch day.
Whatever the reason, I was naively hoping for some reviews to drop late last week or today (Monday, at time of writing), if not. I've got the Switch 2 Mario Kart World bundle pre-ordered so don't necessarily need the reviews to make a decision (except whether to cancel the pre-order, which seems unrealistic at this point) but was hoping to get some extra hype from reading GC's reviews ahead of launch day.
Is anyone else eagerly (and maybe disappointedly) anticipating reviews ahead of launch day?

Lean summer
I'll settle for Resident Evil 9 and James Bond being the big reveals for Summer Game Fest. I'm interested in both and they're both things that have been announced but never seen before, which is how things used to work and, as far as I'm concerned, the best way to do things.
I am very concerned at the talk of no new Sony event until September though. That is so disappointing and even when we get there, I have little faith we'll hear about anything other than Ghost Of Yōtei. I really hope there's a Nintendo Direct next week though. I kind of feel there won't be, and I understand why not, but unless there is I think this is going to be a weak not-E3 year, even with these two big reveals.

Busy week
It's a blessed week for myself. I've much to look forward to, starting with the obvious and the elephant in the room. The release week of the Nintendo Switch 2 is upon the many and the few. My copy will hopefully be arriving on Friday. Which will also be a hopefully pleasurable day, since it's also Eid. So those will be a gracious present to myself. My mother will be displeased, but it's only twice a year. Besides I've written multiple times, of my personal joy towards this launch and the possibilities, so it won't be a case of averting myself from this moment.
Saturday is the opening night of Summer Games Fest. The occasion in which we are treated to previews, Kojima and Geoff Keighley's smile. Because he loves to smile when Hideo is in the house. Jokes aside, I'm keeping positive for an entertaining showcase and many centrepieces. I'd love to see Resident Evil 9. Tokyo Game Show will probably be a more suitable unveiling though. The Xbox Games Showcase will follow and I've already said that I have given up on the brand. However, I'll be pleasantly amused if it matches the last excellent showcase; fingers crossed.
Lastly, I've finally donned my cowboy hat and began a playthrough of Red Dead Redemption, the first title. The one where Jack has a beard. More jokes aside I always wanted to get around to it.

PS: I meant Friday for Summer Games Fest. Because Rebecca Black wrote the song. OK, I'm done.
The main platform
I have to say it's a smart move by Sony to launch a PlayStation 5 sale to try and undercut the Switch 2 launch and it has definitely turned my head. I'll get a Switch 2, sure, at some point but like a recent reader said I see no reason yet with the current line-up. Mario Kart World has a built in ceiling of interest due to the fact it's still just Mario Kart and I can go play the last one for that fix, and Metroid Prime 4 is on the current Switch. Also, by the time the next proper Zelda launches we may have a bigger OLED edition or a price cut.
PlayStation 5 has gotten a lot of grief this gen, mostly down to Sony's languid first party development but there is no doubt that it is the lead platform right now. People may be correct to complain about Naughty Dog being MIA… but then every game currently releasing is on it and plays well on it so what do you want? PlayStation is basically default gaming.
Next year's smash hits outside Nintendo will be developed with it as the main platform, it's tough to turn down that pedigree for an alternative with question marks around lengthy and comprehensive future support. Playing Baldur's Gate 3 and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth out of the box next week versus waiting however many years for them to turn up on Nintendo's platform? Seems like a no-brainer to me.

GC: Are you saying you don't expect the Switch 2 to outsell the PlayStation 5?
Catching up
I can see why some Switch 1 owners don't feel the need to pull the trigger just yet and upgrade to the Switch 2.
Mario Kart World aside, I think it looks an underwhelming launch line-up for Nintendo exclusives. However, I resisted getting a Switch 1 last year and can't wait to sink my teeth into all that Nintendo goodness and feast when my Switch 2 is delivered! Bring it on!

Fair advantage
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33… what a great game. I had been gearing up for a full 30 hour experience, to play the main game of the default setting.
To my surprise I beat the final boss at 20 hours. I had been taking almost every fight I encountered, I didn't put a huge amount of effort into finely balancing stats.
I tend to dodge frequently but if I got a sense of the rhythm of an attack I would parry.
It was therefore a complete surprise that I was at the final boss so soon.
Sekiro: Shadow Die Twice is a favourite of mine and so I guess good dodging and/or parrying really gets you through the game quicker.
For anyone struggling with dodging there is quite often an aural cue, much more so than a visual cue and so listening with headphones really helps.
Deskiryu
GC: If you're a Sekiro veteran you'll have a instant advantage with Clair Obscur, it's curious how much it borrows from From's game. If it helps, the average for the main story alone, with no side quests, is 27 hours on How Long to Beat, so you definitely did it quicker than most.
Inbox also-ransJust finished season 2 of The Last Of Us and I agree it was a disappointment. What gets me is It seems like the team didn't really understand the original game, and yet some of the same people are involved making it?
Ragu
Blue Prince may be the slowest burning game I've ever played, but after not getting it at first I'm really starting to enjoy it now. It's very odd but also very cleverly designed.

Nintendo Switch 2 will outsell all PC handhelds in 2025 claims report

An analyst firm has predicted the Nintendo Switch 2 will sell 13 million consoles this year, double the sales of the entire PC handheld market. The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be a big success based on pre-order numbers, but many analysts are even more optimistic about its chances than Nintendo themselves. According to analyst group Ampere, the Switch 2 will surpass 13 million consoles sold in 2025. For comparison, the original Switch sold just over 15 million consoles within its first fiscal year, but this 13 million number covers just the next six months. The original Switch launched in March 2017, so based on these projections, it's possible the Switch 2 could surpass the original console's numbers by the end of the current fiscal year (end of March 2026), despite having three months less time on the market. While companies like Microsoft are making moves to enter the PC gaming handheld space, it's noted that these projected 13 million sales for the Switch 2 are double that market's overall sales. A report earlier this year found the Steam Deck, Asus ROG Ally, Lenovo Legion Go, and the MSI Claw have collectively shipped just under six million units – the Steam Deck is the lion's share of that with around 4 million sales. According to Ampere (via The Game Business), 56% of Steam Deck owners use a Switch, while only 1.3% of Switch owners 'consider Steam Deck to be their primary console'. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. While this isn't exactly surprising, considering the Steam Deck has always been a niche device you can't actually buy in stores, it's a reminder of how the Switch and the Switch 2 really have no equal competitors in the handheld arena. Elsewhere, Ampire predicts the combined active install base of Switch and Switch 2 will reach 130 million by 2027. More Trending As for Switch 2 sales, the console is expected to sell over 100 million units by the end of 2030. At the time of writing, after eight years on the market, the original Switch has surpassed 152.12 million sales. Last month, Nintendo said it was aiming to sell 15 million Switch 2 consoles by the end of the 2026 fiscal year. This lower than expected estimate was likely adjusted due to the US tariffs, and it's still unclear whether these will have a significant impact in the months to come. The Switch 2 is set to launch on June 5, with Mario Kart World, Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour, and Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition leading the launch line-up. We've got a Nintendo Switch 2 console - here's when to expect our review

To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video Nintendo Switch 2 consoles are just now arriving with press but it's going to be a long time before there are any full reviews. The Nintendo Switch 2 is out on Thursday, June 5 but as you'll have noticed, nowhere on the internet has any reviews of either the games or the console itself. We have new hands-on previews of Mario Kart World and Welcome Tour but those are based on preview events from a couple of weeks ago. Nevertheless, we now finally have an actual Switch 2 console of our own, so we'll be able to work on some actual reviews. The console turned up this afternoon, as you can see below, along with the official camera, the new pro controller, and a physical copy of Mario Kart World. That's all that was in the parcel that arrived, but Nintendo has promised to send download codes for Welcome Tour and the Nintendo Switch 2 Editions of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild and Tears Of The Kingdom on Thursday. There's no point asking why it's being done like this, because it's Nintendo, but they've clearly told third party publishers to follow the same pattern, as we're not getting those download codes until later today or Thursday. As far as we know this is the same situation for all outlets, so that's going to have a big impact on when reviews start to appear. The wider problem here is that it's not-E3 week. To what degree Nintendo was aware of that before they picked the launch date it's hard to say, but they themselves have not yet announced a Nintendo Direct, even though they've always previously had one in early or mid-June. They are an official partner of Summer Game Fest on Friday though, so they can't pretend they didn't know about that. But it's not just Summer Game Fest. Tonight there's Sony's new State of Play, IO Interactive has an event at 2am on Saturday revealing their new James Bond game, and then there's the Xbox Games Showcase on Sunday evening. Sign up to the GameCentral newsletter for a unique take on the week in gaming, alongside the latest reviews and more. Delivered to your inbox every Saturday morning. And that's just the big ones, there's also Day of the Devs and Devolver Digital on Friday, Future Games Show Summer Showcase on Saturday, PC Gaming Show on Sunday, and literally many more. All the smaller events must surely know they'll get little to no coverage, especially this week, but that's the situation. We'll do everything we can to give equal coverage to everything (we hear on the grapevine that there are some major announcements coming for Summer Game Fest and the State of Play) and that is going to further impact our Switch 2 coverage. One of us will do an all-nighter tonight, to try and get a review in progress ready for Mario Kart World on Thursday, but it's going to be next week until there's a scored review for anything, or any kind of formal review of the console itself. More Trending As we said on Tuesday, we don't think Nintendo is purposefully trying to hide anything with all this. Instead, it seems to be an unfortunate mix of bad timing and Nintendo's usual overcautiousness, in this regarding day one patches (which we assume relate to online play, when it comes to Mario Kart). That said, there certainly are some puzzling aspects to Mario Kart World, in regard to the lack of integration between the open world and the rest of the game, that perhaps Nintendo were keen not to have discussed until the last moment. Ultimately, this all comes down to the publishers' longstanding inability to use a calendar sensibly (never mind release dates, why was the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct the same day Trump's tariffs were announced?) or to accept that they are not the only company in the games industry. Although we've rarely seen those deficiencies cause such turmoil as this before. On Thursday, ordinary people will be receiving their Nintendo Switch 2 pre-orders and the internet will be awash with first impressions and, no doubt, false information. Just be cautious and recognise that no one at the moment has spent any significant amount of time with the Switch 2 and so it's far too early to draw a definitive conclusion about it or its games. A-ha's Morten Harket shares emotional statement after Parkinson's diagnosis

Morten Harket, the iconic frontman of 80s band A-ha, has announced that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. The Norwegian band released a statement that read: 'This isn't the sort of news anyone wants to deliver to the world, but here it is: Morten has Parkinson's disease.' In an interview about the diagnosis on the band's official website that serves as Harket's statement on the matter, the 65-year-old said: 'I've got no problem accepting the diagnosis. With time I've taken to heart my 94-year-old father's attitude to the way the organism gradually surrenders: 'I use whatever works.'' He elaborated: 'Part of me wanted to reveal it. Like I said, acknowledging the diagnosis wasn't a problem for me; it's my need for peace and quiet to work that has been stopping me. I'm trying the best I can to prevent my entire system from going into decline. 'It's a difficult balancing act between taking the medication and managing its side effects. There's so much to weigh up when you're emulating the masterful way the body handles every complex movement, or social matters and invitations, or day-to-day life in general.' Later, when asked if he can still sing, he responded: 'I don't really know. I don't feel like singing, and for me that's a sign. I'm broadminded in terms of what I think works; I don't expect to be able to achieve full technical control.' A-ha is a Norwegian synth-pop band formed in Oslo in 1982, consisting of Morten Harket (vocals), Magne Furuholmen (keyboards), and Pål Waaktaar-Savoy (guitar). They rose to international fame with their 1985 debut album Hunting High and Low, which featured the iconic hit Take On Me, known for its innovative animated music video and Harket's falsetto vocals. More Trending The song became a global success, reaching number one in multiple countries, and remaining one of the most recognisable songs in the world to this day. While often associated with the 1980s, a-ha continued to release music and tour into the 21st century, building a loyal fanbase and evolving their sound. Notable later work include albums like Memorial Beach, Lifelines, and Cast in Steel. Despite several breakups and reunions, a-ha remains an influential and enduring act in pop music history. Harket has six children, three with his former wife Camilla Malmquist Harket, whom he divorced in 1998, a daughter with former girlfriend Anne Mette Undlien. and another daughter with his current partner Inez Andersson.
