Nashik civic body exempts telecom companies from paying realty tax for towers
Nashik: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has exempted telecom companies from paying property tax on mobile towers with effect from Jan 2025. However, the telcos will have to clear their dues until Dec 2024. The civic body took this decision following the guidelines of the urban development department of state govt. As per section 14 (3) of the Telecommunication Act, 2023, the telecommunication network installed at any property will not be considered part of property, nor will any property tax or duty be applicable to that property. Recently, the Centre expressed its disappointment with the civic bodies in various states for not implementing the Act. Accordingly, the urban development department of state govt sent a letter to the civic bodies in February this year, asking them to not include mobile towers for property tax. The civic administration subsequently tabled the proposal during a meeting of its general body and it was approved. According to the property tax department of the NMC, there are a total of 596 mobile towers across Nashik city, and the annual property tax demand from these mobile towers was Rs 7 crore. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 20 Historic Cars Every Enthusiast Should Know Undo However, some telcom companies with mobile towers in the city have property tax dues of Rs 52.69 crore pending for the past few years. Ajit Nikat, deputy commissioner (taxation) of municipal corporations, said, "We have exempted all the mobile towers in the city from paying property tax effective from Jan 2025. But they will have to pay the dues they have until Dec 2024. We have instructed the divisional officers from all six divisions of the civic body to collect the dues from the telecom companies concerned." Another NMC official said although the mobile towers have been exempted from property tax, the civic body will lease its spaces to the telcom companies to install the towers. "This will help the NMC earn some revenue through leasing their properties for the setting up of mobile towers," the official said. FIR against Nishikant, Manoj for ‘violation' of temple norms
1 2 Dumka: After five days of the alleged violation of norms by Godda BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, his counterpart from the North Delhi constituency, Manoj Tiwari , and others, while making offerings at the Baba Baidyanath Dham, an FIR has been lodged with the Babadham temple police station of Deoghar district by a former priest of the temple. Responding to the FIR, Dubey said in a social media post that he would surrender before the Babadham temple police station on Saturday. The FIR, lodged by Kartik Nath Thakur, former general secretary of the Panda Dharma Rakshini Sabha (local priests' body), on August 7, referred to the alleged conduct of the two MPs and others on August 2 while entering the garbha griha (sanctum sanctorum) in defiance of the prevailing restrictions on VIP offerings during the ongoing Shravan Mela period. In his FIR, the complainant said Dubey also indulged in a scuffle with the police personnel deployed outside the exit gate. Dubey's action was to let Tiwari and others, including his son Kanishkant Dubey, personal assistant Seshadri Dubey, Tiwari's PA (not named), and Abhayanand Jha, enter the sanctum sanctorum through the gate and disrupt the ongoing daily ritual of the offering of Kancha Jal Puja of the deity in the late evening when offerings by common devotees remain restricted. Although the complainant, who had instances of conflicts with Dubey on previous occasions, did not mention any reason behind the delay of five days in lodging the FIR, the temple and the district administrations did not file any case against the MP. Meanwhile, a Dubey supporter said, "Why didn't anyone from the temple administration or anyone among the cops with whom Dubey ji allegedly had a scuffle while entering the garbha griha turn up to lodge such a complaint against him and others? That is because Dubey ji's move didn't pose any inconvenience to the common devotees." He added, "Had there been any inconvenience, the temple management or, for that matter, the district administration would have come forward to take legal recourse against Dubey and others immediately." Meanwhile, the SDO (civil) of Deoghar, designated as in-charge of the temple management, Ravi Kumar, said the matter was being looked into at the administrative level. "The video footage of the event has been provided to police by the temple management for suitable legal recourse," Kumar told TOI, confirming that the FIR has been filed. Notably, Dubey received Tiwari, who undertook the Kanwar Yatra between Sultanganj (Bhagalpur, Bihar) and Deoghar to perform the offerings at the Babadham temple, one of the Dwadash Jyotirlingas, by covering over a 100-km journey on foot. Dubey accompanied Tiwari to the temple on August 2. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
