Much improvement needed from Argentina, says skipper
The home side were handed a 41-24 defeat by the All Blacks in their opening clash of the southern hemisphere championship in Cordoba on Saturday and meet them again in Buenos Aires, with Montoya clear where they need to improve.
"Our discipline cost us a lot of unforced errors, which gave them position and penalties. We shot ourselves in the foot with the penalties we were conceding, so when we look back on it, it hurts a lot," he told reporters.
"After all that, credit to New Zealand. They're a good team who took advantage of every opportunity they had, and in the final minutes of each half, they scored very easily."
Montoya said Argentina would need more focus at crucial junctures of Saturday's game, which will be played at Estadio José Amalfitani in the capital, after the loss in Cordoba.
'Many of our mistakes were made in the final minutes of each half, where they scored more points against us. So, those minutes are where we clearly have to do better. Last year, it was the early part of each half when they scored very easily against us. This time it was the other way around."
Argentina fought their way back from 31-10 down at halftime to be only seven points behind with 12 minutes to go but then conceded two tries from lineout mauls to see any chance of a dramatic comeback slip away.
"Clearly, the maul defence wasn't up to par. We have to improve, but we win together, we lose together, so we have to regroup, recover, look inward, and we'll come back,' the Pumas skipper said.

Wrexham sign Man City youngster Callum Doyle
Wrexham have completed the signing of Manchester City defender Callum Doyle in a move that takes their summer spending past £30m as they look to secure their position in the Championship. The 21-year-old becomes Phil Parkinson 's 10th summer signing while City continue to trim their squad and bring in money by selling youth-team products. Centre-back Doyle is the second biggest buy in Wrexham's history, after Nathan Broadhead joined from Ipswich last week, in costing an initial £7.5m. Included in the deal is a buyback clause for City as well as a 25% sell-on clause should Wrexham decide to part ways with Doyle in the future. Wrexham had already broken their club record this summer to sign first Liberato Cacace and then Lewis O'Brien while they have also bought Conor Coady, Kieffer Moore, Ryan Hardie and George Thomason, besides bringing in Josh Windass and Danny Ward on free transfers. They've started the season with narrow back-to-back defeats but have shown enough promise to improve as the year goes on. On Doyle's signing, Parkinson said: 'We're delighted to welcome Callum to the Club. He's a talented young player with a lot of Championship experience. We're looking forward to him joining up with the squad and working with him.' England Under-21 international Doyle has never made a first-team appearance for City but has had four loan spells, playing for Sunderland in League One in 2021-22 and then Coventry, Leicester City and Norwich City in the Championship. He won promotions with Sunderland and Leicester and reached the play-off final with Coventry. On signing for Wrexham, he said: 'I'm buzzing to join the Club.
