Auckland United FC Set Up Title Decider With Hekari Womens FC At The OPC Women's Champions League In Tahiti
The New Zealand champions face a rematch against Hekari Women's FC in Saturday's (Tahiti time) decider.
Ben Bate's side won the final 1-0 in the Solomon Islands last year and also defeated Hekari 2-1 in Group play last week.
They made a statement against Henderson Eels, scoring three times in the first seven minutes to effectively seal progression to the final.
Zoe Benson scored a hat-trick inside 28 minutes to overtake Hekari United's Marie Kaipu in the race for the Golden Boot. She now has eight for the tournament, one clear of the Papua New Guinea side's captain and star striker.
Henderson Eels playmaker Ileen Pegi showed her class in a brief moment of respite for the Eels with a strong run down the flank, before cutting back inside of Saskia Vosper and unleashing a stunning right footed strike to beat a despairing Hannah Mitchell in the Auckland United FC goal.
That goal in the 26th minute was as good as it got for the Solomon Islanders on attack. They did manage a freekick against the crossbar late in the second half. At the other end while Betty Sade had a tough time in the Henderson Eels goal, she produced a moment of magic to deny Ava Pritchard from the penalty spot in the 36th minute.
Leading by 5-1 at the break, Auckland United FC ensured there would be no dramatic comeback from their opponents two minutes after the restart when substitute Danielle Canham scored Auckland's sixth goal of the game.
From there Ben Bate's side controlled the tempo but were unable to find the back of the net again as Henderson Eels produced a resolute defensive display that was missing in the opening 30 minutes of the match.

Seventy-Four New Constables Heading To Districts In A Week
Commissioner Richard Chambers, members of the police executive and wing patron former police assistant commissioner, Allan Boreham congratulated 74 graduating constables from Wing 384 today. Also attending the graduation and presenting a prize in absence of the Minister of Police was her worship Anita Baker, the Mayor of Porirua. Families and friends celebrated the newly attested police officers at Te Rauparaha Arena, Porirua this afternoon to acknowledge the successful completion of their initial training course. There are some likeminded individuals in the wing with 11 of the graduates having family members currently working in police. Four graduating officers made the change from non-constabulary roles to police officers. The wing is very diverse with eighteen recruits speaking more than one language and 19 recruits who were born overseas. The top prize winner was born and raised in France. Top of wing, Constable Diane Aspalvo is a French-trained and certified clinical psychologist. She has worked as a psychologist in Paris and in Tairawhiti New Zealand before deciding to join the New Zealand Police. She previously volunteered for the French Army as a reserve after a call-up for national security due to the terrorist attacks in France in 2015. She is a keen swimmer, skier and is also into CrossFit. 'I decided to join the New Zealand Police at 41 years old, so I am a living proof that it is never too late to achieve your dreams.' Diane will be deployed to Eastern District. Second Top Award winner Constable Hunta Sutherland, Ngāti Kuia is also a sporting talent, representing her district, Tasman, in football up to high school level. Not only is she a 'Golden Boot' winner for the most goals scored in a regional competition (39), she's into running track, cross country, and road races with many podium finishes. Hunta has worked as a teacher's aide with troubled and autistic youth which she found inspiring. 'While training at college I found strength I never knew I had, and a purpose I'll never forget.' Hunta will be based in Tasman District. Leadership Award winner Constable Charise Perez is also a keen sports person excelling in netball. She was born in Wellington and raised by her Fijian dad and Samoan mother. Charise has experience in hospitality, service and politics. She began her employment at the Electoral Commission as an administrator. She was a community liaison and worked on the 2020 elections and has also managed administration for an emergency housing organization called Tuatahi Centre. As the leadership award winner, Charise gave a speech to the wing. "I stand here today as a product of the relationships and bonds between the members of wing 384. Together we began our journey as strangers, but today we stand as brothers and sisters. As we take the next step in our police journey, I believe that each and every one of wing 384 are more than capable of fulfilling the oath that we have just taken." Charise, a former Authorised Officer for Police, will be based back in Wellington District to start policing. The wing is dispersed as follows: Deployment: Northland 3, Tāmaki Makaurau a total of 23 and broken down as follows: Waitematā - 9, Counties Manukau - 14, Waikato - 4, Bay of Plenty - 8, Eastern - 3, Central - 8, Wellington - 9, Tasman - 6, Canterbury - 3, Southern - 7. The new constables will start their first week of duty in their Police districts from Monday 2 June 2025 and will continue their training on the job as probationary constables. Awards: Minister's Award recognising top student: Constable Diane Aspavlo, posted to Eastern District. Commissioner's Award for Leadership: Constable Charise Perez, posted to Wellington District. Patron's Award for second in wing recognising second top student: Constable Hunta Sutherland, posted to Tasman District. Driver Training and Road Policing Practice Award: Constable Ethan Baldwin posted to Waitematā District. Demographics: 25.7 percent are female, 74.3 percent are male. New Zealand European make up 56.8 percent of the wing, with Māori 12.2 percent, Pasifika 17.6 percent, Asian 10.8 percent, LAAM 2.7 percent. 383 Wing Patron: Allan Boreham: Allan Boreham is a retired Assistant Commissioner of Police and former head of Youth Justice for Oranga Tamariki, Ministry for Children. Allan holds the New Zealand Police in very high esteem and is honoured to be the patron for Wing 384. He says he is looking forward to supporting the wing members to succeed and gain all the satisfaction a Police career offers. Allan joined Police in 1985 (in Wing 97) and served for more than 33 years. He was also a Deputy Chief Executive in the public service for five years in charge of Youth Justice. His Police career was varied and involved completing a wide range of roles in public safety, investigations, and road policing. These included postings in Auckland, Tokoroa, Hamilton and Wellington. He received an award for his leadership in solving the 1997 kidnapping and murder of an Auckland businessman, Graham Kirkwood. Allan holds a Bachelor Arts, majoring in Sociology, from Massey University. He is currently learning to speak Spanish and is also a keen motorcyclist and skier. His father Bruce, now in his eighties, also served in the Police for 32 years.

Auckland United FC win Oceania Women's Champions League final

Photo: Photosport Auckland United FC will play in the inaugural FIFA Women's Champions Cup next year, after beating Papua New Guinea side Hekari 1-0 in the Oceania final in Papeete, Tahiti. Auckland United retained their OFC Women's Champions League title with the victory and will play the Asian champions in a playoff next year, with the winners to face the African confederation winners in round two. They are also well placed to be the Oceania representative at the first FIFA Club World Cup in 2028. Hekari Women's FC proved tough opponents at Stade Pater, with the Aucklanders scoring the match's sole goal in the 26th minute, after dominating the early changes. Midfielder Danielle Canham scored the goal, after Yume Harashima drove the ball into the box and Chloe Knott provided a back-heeled ball pass. They came close to scoring a few more goals, but Hekari amped up their attacking game early in the second half, really testing the defence of the Ben Bate-coached side. They passed that test and then dominated the final 15 minutes to secure the win. Auckland United FC secure back-to-back titles at the OFC Women's Champions League
Press Release – Oceania Football Confederation Auckland United FC have retained their OFC Womens Champions League title with a hard fought 1-0 win over Hekari Womens FC in the final at Stade Pater in Papeete. The New Zealand champions scored the only goal of the game in the 26th minute through midfielder Danielle Canham and withstood plenty of pressure from the Papua New Guinea side in the second half but kept their composure in defence to secure the win. For Hekari Womens FC it's a bitter pill to swallow, having lost the final last year in Honiara by the same score. Ericsson Komeng's side had suffered a major blow before kick-off with playmaker Ramona Padio ruled out for six weeks with an ankle injury suffered in the semi-final win over Ba Women FC. Without Padio, Hekari were a distant second best in the opening half as Auckland United FC came out with real intent and dominated the midfield exchanges. They came close to taking the lead in the opening minute when Danielle Canham thundered a shot against the crossbar. Striker Zoe Benson fired just wide of the left hand upright in the 15th minute after finding herself clear inside the box as the New Zealanders quickly found their rhythm. Up front for Hekari Marie Kaipu found herself largely isolated on attack and unable to test Hannah Mitchell in the Auckland United goal. Auckland United FC deservedly took the lead in the 26th minute when a corner the ball was played out to Yume Harashima who drove the ball into the box. Chloe Knott back heeled the ball into Canham who got a touch, and the ball somehow squeezed past Gloria Laeli in the Hekari Womens FC goal. The Kiwis should have doubled their lead in the 42nd minute when Laeli spilled the ball and Knott fired over the bar when she could have placed the ball into the back of the net. Auckland United FC started the second half on the front foot with captain Talisha Green heading straight at Laeli five minutes in. Komeng made a couple of changes to his side, and it brought more urgency into Hekari's play as the match wore on. Their best chance to equalise came in the 64th minute when Kaipu threaded a ball through on goal to Nenny Elipas, but the advancing Mitchell made a strong save to deny the Hekari forward an equaliser. Hekari continued to surge forward but the final pass often went astray, and promising positions ultimately led to nothing. Auckland United controlled the last 15 minutes and ran down the clock effectively to secure a deserved victory. Ben Bate's side will compete in the inaugural FIFA Women's Champions Cup next year in a playoff against the AFC champions with the winner of that match visiting the CAF champions in round two. The New Zealanders are also well placed to be the Oceania representative at the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup to be played in 2028.
