BNP in Talks to Buy Mercedes' Athlon
BNP Paribas SA is in advanced talks to acquire Mercedes-Benz Group's leasing unit Athlon , according to people familiar with the matter. The deal could value the business at about INR 1 billion ($1.2 billion), one of the people said, asking not to be identified . Deliberations are still ongoing and there's no certainty they will lead to a transaction, the people said. Other parties have also expressed interest and another buyer could still emerge. Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut achieves 0 to 400 to 0 run in 25.21s, breaks world record
Koenigsegg has reclaimed the 0 to 400 to 0 kmph world record for homologated road cars, achieving the feat on August 7, 2025, at Orebro Airfield in Sweden. Behind the wheel was factory test driver Markus Lundh, who completed the run in an astonishing 25.21 seconds. This time beats both Koenigsegg's own previous record from June 2024 and every other contender to date. The improvement came thanks to a set of new software refinements known as 'Absolut Overdrive," applied to the same Jesko Absolut used in last year's run. These upgrades, which will be rolled out to customer cars, enhance drivetrain communication, transmission control, and torque management, allowing the car to put down power more effectively in less-than-ideal conditions. What challenges did the team face? Lundh had to contend with a drying tarmac after earlier rainfall, a factor that made both acceleration and braking more challenging. Even under these sub-optimal conditions, the Jesko Absolut's combination of a low drag coefficient, sophisticated traction control, and immense engine performance delivered outstanding results. The verified figures highlight the achievement: zero to four hundred to zero kilometres per hour in 25.21 seconds, zero to four hundred kilometres per hour in 16.77 seconds, and four hundred to zero in just 8.44 seconds. In imperial units, the car went from zero to 250 mph and back to zero in 25.67 seconds. These times shaved over two and a half seconds from the Jesko Absolut's record of 27.83 seconds set in 2024. Christian von Koenigsegg noted that achieving such results with a rear-wheel-drive combustion car, while surpassing several four-wheel-drive electric hypercars in straight-line tests, challenges conventional assumptions about performance technology. What makes the Jesko Absolut capable of this performance? The Jesko Absolut is a purpose-built, road-legal hypercar introduced in 2020 as the speed-oriented version of the Jesko. Its design focuses on aerodynamic efficiency rather than cornering grip, making it distinct from the track-focused Jesko Attack. The massive fixed rear wing is replaced by an elongated tail section with twin vertical fins, and the bodywork is refined through thousands of hours of computational fluid dynamics testing. The result is a drag coefficient of just 0.278 and significantly reduced downforce, around 150 kilograms compared with the Attack's 1,400 kilograms. At its core is a 5.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing 1,600 brake horsepower when running on E85 fuel. The engine uses a lightweight flat-plane crankshaft weighing only 12.5 kilograms and can rev to 8,500 rpm. Power is delivered through Koenigsegg's nine-speed Light Speed Transmission, which employs multiple clutches to shift almost instantaneously without disrupting acceleration. The car's chassis and suspension are designed to remain stable at extreme speeds, while advanced electronic aids such as adjustable traction control and torque vectoring help manage the immense power through the rear wheels. These systems work alongside carbon-ceramic brakes capable of dissipating the enormous heat generated during high-speed stops. Why is this record significant? By outpacing all-electric hypercars in this specific acceleration and deceleration test, it demonstrates that rear-wheel-drive petrol-powered machines still have a place in the conversation about ultimate speed. With only 125 units planned across both Absolut and Attack versions, the Jesko Absolut remains an exclusive example of what can be achieved when aerodynamics, mechanical engineering, and software development are all pushed to their limits. The latest arrival from Affalterbach has just touched down on Indian shores, aiming squarely at the sweet spot between style and speed. The Mercedes-AMG CLE 53 4MATIC+ Coupé is the newest star in the brand's top-end performance portfolio — a low-slung, two-door machine that looks just as comfortable parked outside a five-star hotel as it does carving through a series of switchbacks. It's a car for those who live for the driving experience, yet refuse to compromise on luxury. Its proportions are pure coupé theatre: long bonnet, short overhangs, a flowing roofline, and that unmistakable AMG stance. Beneath the skin, the CLE 53 is every bit as serious as it looks. The heart of the matter is a reworked 3.0-litre M 256M inline-six petrol engine, fed by twin turbochargers and good for 449 horsepower and 560 Nm of torque — with a brief overboost nudging that to 600 Nm when the moment calls for it. That's enough to launch it from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds, and while the top speed is pegged at 250 km/h, ticking the AMG Driver's Package box lifts it to 270 km/h. It's not just brute force. AMG's fully variable 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system makes sure every ounce of performance is transferred to the road with precision. In everyday driving, it can operate purely as a rear-wheel-drive car for efficiency and that classic AMG feel. Push harder and it seamlessly brings the front axle into play, giving you maximum grip when you need it. The chassis is equally adaptable, thanks to AMG RIDE CONTROL suspension with adaptive damping. One moment it's soaking up city bumps in Comfort mode, the next it's tightening its muscles for fast, flowing roads in Sport or Sport+. Standard rear-axle steering — turning opposite to the front wheels at low speeds and in sync at higher speeds — adds another layer of agility and stability. Open the frameless door and the CLE 53's cabin makes it clear this is as much about the experience as it is about the numbers. The latest MBUX system is presented through a 12.3-inch driver display and an 11.9-inch central touchscreen, both featuring AMG-specific graphics and functions. Supersport mode puts a big, bold rev counter in the centre with performance data on either side — a digital nod to analogue sportscar dials. The seats, upholstered in ARTICO man-made leather and MICROCUT microfibre with AMG graphics and red stitching, strike a fine balance between long-distance comfort and tight corner support. Ambient lighting in 64 colours lets you set the mood, while the flat-bottomed AMG Performance steering wheel positions drive mode selectors and key performance functions literally at your fingertips. As expected from a Mercedes-AMG, the CLE 53 doesn't compromise on safety. Its array of driver-assistance systems work in the background, complemented by strong braking performance and a chassis tuned not just for thrills, but also for reassuring stability in all conditions. AMG models have steadily gained traction in the Indian luxury performance space, with an expanding range that caters to enthusiasts across segments. The CLE 53 slots neatly into this portfolio, offering a balance of usability and performance that broadens AMG's appeal.
