Rugby legend and charity fundraiser Kevin Sinfield will share his story at a special North East event.
The former Leeds player and successful Super League star is launching The Extra Mile speaking tour.

The multi-award-winning player, who earned 26 caps for England and 14 for Great Britain, will particularly highlight his fundraising for ex-teammate Rob Burrow.
Sinfield and Burrow formed a strong bond over 15 years of playing rugby together, which extended beyond the field.
When Burrow was diagnosed with MND, Sinfield committed to running seven marathons in seven days to raise £77,777 for his friend and the MND Association.
This initiative alone raised over £2 million, with the current total from Kevin and his team's efforts exceeding £12 million.
The funds have been crucial in aiding research into the cause of the debilitating disease.
Sinfield continues to support MND research, balancing his fundraising with his career and personal friendships, which will all feature in his talk.
He said: "I can't wait to bring the event to the North East.

Nottingham Forest extends manager Nuno Espirito Santo's contract after European qualification
NOTTINGHAM, England (AP) — Nottingham Forest manager Nuno Espirito Santo has been rewarded with a contract extension for leading the club to its first European qualification for almost 30 years. The 51-year-old Nuno signed a three-year deal to stay at the City Ground until at least 2028, the Premier League club said on its website Saturday. 'Nuno masterminded an incredible 2024-25 season for Forest, guiding the club to its highest league finish in 30 years and thus qualifying for UEFA European competition for the first time since 1995-96,' the club said. Nuno's team enjoyed away wins over Liverpool and Manchester United, and strung together the club's longest top-flight winning streak since 1967. Forest was on course for Champions League qualification after beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 away in April, but only one more win in the last five games meant it had to settle for seventh place. Only the top five qualified for Europe's premier competition. Forest had to settle for the third-tier Conference League competition — and will learn its playoff-round opponent when the Aug. 4 draw is made. Club owner Evangelos Marinakis remonstrated with Nuno on the field after a 2-2 draw with Midlands rival Leicester dented its Champions League hopes. The club later said that Marinakis' concern was about the handling of injured player Taiwo Awoniyi. On Saturday, Marinakis only had words of praise. 'Nuno has made a great impact and performed very well during his time with us so far,' the Greek businessman said. 'He has demonstrated that he maximizes player performance and is an expert at developing players, whilst also embedding our young talent into the first team set-up.' Nuno, who previously managed Wolves and Tottenham, took over at Forest from the fired Steve Cooper in December 2023 and helped the team avoid relegation on the final day of the season. 'I am delighted to be able to continue our journey at this fantastic football club,' the manager from the island country of São Tomé and Príncipe said of his contract extension. 'Since we arrived at Forest, we have worked extremely hard to create a special bond between the players, the fans and everyone at the club, which helped us achieve great things last season.' ___ AP soccer:

Immanuel Feyi-Waboso returns as George Ford and Jamie George lead England XV against France
Return: England wing Immanuel Feyi-Waboso will be hoping to prove that he is still worthy of a potential Lions spot this summer (Getty Images) George Ford and Jamie George will lead an England XV against France this weekend as Immanuel Feyi-Waboso returns from injury. The experienced duo have been named by head coach Steve Borthwick as co-captains for the game at Allianz Stadium Twickenham on Saturday afternoon. Advertisement Ford is currently on 99 international appearances for England but won't reach his century against Les Bleus as it is classed as a non-cap match, which serves as a warm-up for the two-Test tour to Argentina in July and a one-off clash against the USA in Washington. Borthwick - who will name his touring squad on Monday (June 23) - is unable to call upon some 13 players who have been selected for British and Irish Lions duty this summer, including influential captain Maro Itoje. Ellis Genge, Will Stuart, Luke Cowan-Dickie, Ollie Chessum, Tom Curry, Henry Pollock, Ben Earl, Alex Mitchell, Fin Smith, Tommy Freeman, Marcus Smith and Elliot Daly were also called up for the Lions, while Jack van Poortvliet has been training with Andy Farrell's side in the build-up to their 1888 Cup tie with Argentina in Dublin on Friday night as specialist scrum-half cover following an injury to Jamison Gibson-Park. Hooker George and tighthead prop Asher Opoku-Fordjour were also drafted in for Lions training last week, with the former returning to face France. Advertisement Ben Curry, George Furbank, Fraser Dingwall and Harry Randall are all continuing their respective injury rehabilitations with England, with the likes of Ollie Lawrence and George Martin still sidelined. The most standout England selection to face France 'A' is that of Feyi-Waboso, who will be hoping to prove that he can still be an option for the Lions this summer after recovering from a shoulder injury that ruled him out of initial contention and has prevented him from playing since December, requiring surgery. Exeter team-mate Henry Slade marshals the backline from outside centre, partnered in midfield by Gloucester's Seb Atkinson, who is one of three uncapped players in the starting XV, along with Sale full-back Joe Carpenter and Bath's influential Premiership-winning flanker Guy Pepper. Tom Roebuck lines up on the opposite flank to Feyi-Waboso, while Ford is partnered at half-back by Bath's Ben Spencer. Advertisement Fin Baxter and Joe Heyes are the props, with Alex Coles and Nick Isiekwe in the second row. Pepper is joined in the back row by Bath team-mate Ted Hill and Tom Willis. There are two more uncapped players on the bench in flanker Jack Kenningham and versatile back Oscar Beard, who are joined by fellow Harlequins stars Chandler Cunningham-South and Alex Dombrant, plus Theo Dan, Bevan Rodd, Trevor Davison and Raffi Quirke. 'We're excited to be playing at Allianz Stadium and to test ourselves against a strong French side,' said Borthwick. 'I'm really looking forward to seeing this young team get out there and show what they're capable of. 'It's a great opportunity to take another step forward ahead of the summer Tour to Argentina and the US.'

Defender Linked to Liverpool Move as Slot Plans Backline Rebuild
Liverpool Eye Marc Guehi as Defensive Rebuild Accelerates Slot's Liverpool Keeps Making Moves Liverpool's summer spending spree continues to turn heads, with talkSPORT reporting that the Reds are now keen on adding Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi to their ranks. The move signals Arne Slot's intent to not only maintain the high standards set by his predecessor but also to begin shaping a new defensive era at Anfield. Advertisement 'talkSPORT understands that the Reds are now interested in signing Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.' And why wouldn't they be? With Guehi's current deal set to expire in 2026 and Crystal Palace seemingly preparing for life after him, Liverpool sense an opportunity to strike decisively. With Ousmane Diomande lined up as a potential record-breaking arrival at Selhurst Park, the London club may soon be willing to cash in. Photo IMAGO Defensive Departures Create Urgency Jarell Quansah's imminent move to Germany for around £25.6 million, as reported by talkSPORT, adds urgency to Liverpool's backline recruitment. 'Quansah is set to head to Germany in a deal worth approximately £25.6million,' the report claims. Joe Gomez's uncertain future and Ibrahima Konaté attracting interest from Real Madrid—his contract expiring next summer—only compounds the issue. Virgil van Dijk remains the only established centre-back with a secure long-term future at the club. Photo: IMAGO Advertisement Troy Deeney, the former Watford striker, spoke with enthusiasm about the potential move. 'I think he would work great next to Van Dijk, that's a long-term succession plan for Liverpool,' he stated. 'But Liverpool are not messing about. I do think Liverpool have laid it down to everybody now, saying: 'This is what we're going to do, come and catch us if you can'.' Smart Spending, Serious Intent Liverpool's transfer strategy appears aggressive, but also smart. While their gross spending may already be nearing £185 million, sales are offsetting the outlay. 'It's actually not going to be a huge net spend either,' said Deeney. With Caoimhin Kelleher moving to Brentford for up to £18 million and Robertson linked with Atlético Madrid, significant funds are being recouped. 'They've had Kelleher leave, talk of Robertson going, so there's going to be a few to make sure they don't spend as much as it sounds,' Deeney added. With Wirtz's £116.5 million arrival, Kerkez's £40 million switch from Bournemouth nearing completion, and Jeremie Frimpong already through the door, this is a statement summer from the Premier League champions. Marc Guehi's Value and Palace's Dilemma What complicates Liverpool's pursuit is Guehi's valuation. Newcastle had four bids rejected last summer, the final being a staggering £65 million. 'That ended up with them walking away from negotiations, as Palace had asked for even more money,' notes talkSPORT. Liverpool will be aware of the challenges, but Guehi's contract situation may offer leverage. Advertisement Palace are planning, bracing themselves for big-name exits, with either Guehi or Eberechi Eze expected to move on. 'I think Crystal Palace are going to lose either Guehi or [Eberechi] Eze, whichever they decide to let go,' said Deeney. Slot's Liverpool are playing with a clear identity—invest, refresh, and challenge again. Guehi could be the latest piece of that puzzle, offering quality, leadership and Premier League experience. Our View – EPL Index Analysis If Liverpool really do land Marc Guehi this summer, it would be a monumental signing for the Arne Slot era. With Van Dijk not getting any younger and the club facing uncertainty over Gomez, Quansah and Konaté, this isn't just a luxury signing—it's a necessity. Advertisement Guehi is quick, composed on the ball and a natural leader, and you can't underestimate how vital that will be in a side transitioning post-Klopp. Palace may have overplayed their hand last summer with Newcastle, but this year, Liverpool hold the cards. A year left on his deal, a potential replacement already lined up, and the lure of Champions League football—Palace might have to settle for less than their previous £65 million demands. From a fan's perspective, seeing the club spend big on talent like Wirtz and possibly Guehi, while keeping the net spend down, shows we've got a proper structure behind the scenes. Slot seems to have authority already, and that's encouraging. Guehi next to Van Dijk? That's a mouth-watering prospect. Let's just get it done.
