The Real Housewives of Potomac star reveals the news of her baby boy's arrival exclusively with PEOPLE, saying "the transition into motherhood has been amazing and pretty smooth"

The Real Housewives of Potomac star and her husband, Dr. Ikenna Ihim, welcomed their first baby, son Noah Jidechi Ikeoha Ihim, on Wednesday, May 14, announcing the exciting news exclusively with PEOPLE.
The little one entered the world weighing 7 lbs and 1.4 oz. The newly minted mom tells PEOPLE that for the first few weeks with her bundle of joy, she's "simply been in awe."
"I just stare at him and think, 'Wow, this is the person that was kicking me in the ribs all those months,' " she jokes. "He's just so special. With all that I've been through and the two years it has taken us to get to this point."
"I really just thank God for everything and I fully accept my journey and my struggle because if any of the prior IUIs [intrauterine insemination] worked or IVF [in vitro fertilization] embryo transfers worked, I wouldn't have this exact little boy, and he is worth it all," she adds. "He's changed our lives and those around us for the better, and we wouldn't have it any other way."

In January, the Bravo star revealed the bittersweet news of her pregnancy, saying that she lost baby Noah's twin sibling in utero. Despite the heartbreaking news, Nneka says that her transition into motherhood has been "amazing and pretty smooth."
"I have been very blessed to have so much help, which has made everything easier," she tells PEOPLE. "My mom came to town a few days before my c-section, and she hasn't left my side since. Having her has truly made all the difference for me."
Ikenna's mother died in 2019, but the reality star shares that if she were here, she knows she would be there to help her transition into motherhood.
"Ikenna's mother passed away in 2019, otherwise, she certainly would have played a role in welcoming us into parenthood," she explains. "But her sisters, Ikenna's aunts, really stepped up and have made themselves available by frequently preparing meals and jumping in to care for Noah so some of the rest of us can have a break."

While the new mom settles into motherhood with her little one, she's making sure to enjoy all of the moments in the newborn phase.
"My favorite time of the day are his brief wake periods," she says. "At this stage, newborns sleep most of the day, but the few short moments I get per day where he innocently stares at me are the best."
"I also love him just lying on my chest sleeping," she adds, before sharing the more challenging parts of motherhood. "The hardest times are changing his diaper. He really doesn't like the cold or that gust of air that hits once he's getting undressed, so he really cries a lot, but he also hates having a dirty diaper and cries loudly about that as well, so it's a lose-lose."
