Analysis of data from ill-fated AI flight Black Boxes underway: Govt
New Delhi, June 26 (UNI) The Government today said data from the black boxes of the Air India aircraft that crashed a fortnight ago, killing 271 people, has been successfully retrieved and is currently being analysed to piece together the events that led to the deadly disaster.
A joint team from the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AIIB) and the US National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is currently analysing the data, it said.
Giving details of the data retrieval process, the Aviation Ministry in a statement said here, the Crash Protection Module (CPM) from the front black box was recovered on June 24 and the following day, a team of technicians successfully downloaded the data at the labs of Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
'Efforts are now underway to examine information from both the Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and the Flight Data Recorder (FDR). The aim is to reconstruct the timeline of the crash, identify possible causes, and implement improvements to prevent similar tragedies in the future,' said the Ministry.
It confirmed that the two recorders were found at the crash site—one retrieved from a rooftop on June 13 and the other from debris on June 16. Strict protocols were followed for their handling, storage, and transport, with the devices kept under constant police guard and video surveillance in Ahmedabad.
On June 24, the black boxes were securely transported by Indian Air Force aircraft from Ahmedabad to Delhi.
'The memory module from the front black box was accessed successfully on June 25, and data analysis is now in progress,' it added.
The Ministry emphasised that all procedures have been carried out in accordance with national laws and international aviation standards, within the expected timeframe.

Three pilgrims die, eight injured, nine missing as bus falls into Alaknanda
Dehradun, Jun 26 (UNI) Three pilgrims died, eight others were seriously injured and nine went missing as a bus going towards Badrimath Shrine fell into a 300 metres gorge in Rudraprayag on Thursday morning. Chances of survival of the missing pilgrims seems to be remote, said State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) officials engaged in rescue and search operation. Rescuers recovered three dead bodies while search for nine missing persons from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Uttarakhand was going on. Eight injured pilgrims were rushed to a nearby hospital. Tragedy occurred near State Bank Turn, at Gholtir area in Rudraprayag when a 31-seater Char Dham pilgrimage bus UK 08 PA 7444, went out of control and plunged into Alaknanda River, nearly 300 meters down the road. The bus was going from Rudraprayag to Badrinath carrying passengers. Bus driver Sumit Kumar hailed from Haridwar. As many as 20 passengers were seated in the bus when the ill fated vehicle met the tragedy. SDRF officials informed that some of the pilgrims were thrown out of the bus as it skidded into the gorge before going in the river. They were rescued from the gorge by SDRF, NDRF, local public, police and revenue department teams. Around eight injured passengers were rescued and sent to Rudraprayag district hospital for medical aid. Some of the critically injured pilgrims were airlifted to All Iindia Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Rishikesh. Besides rescuing eight injured, SDRF and other rescue teams at the accident site recovered two dead identified as 42 year old Vishal Soni from Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh and 17 years old Dirmi from Surat in Gujarat. Third body, that of a woman pilgrim was taken out of the river near Dhari Devi temple far down the stream where accident occurred. As per SDRF she was one of missing persons but her identity could not be confirmed. Injured pilgrims included Deepika Soni, 42, Hemlata Soni, 45, both from Rajasthan, Ishwar Soni, 46, Bhavna Soni, 43, and 7-year old girl Bhavya Soni, all three from Surat in Gujarat. Apart from them 10 year old boy Parth Soni, from Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh, bus driver Sumit Kumar, 23, from Bairagi Camp in Haridwar and Amita Soni, 49, a resident of Mira Road, Maharashtra were also sent to hospital for treatment. Passengers stated to be missing were 28 years old Ravi Bhavsar, Lalit Kumar Soni, 48, Sanjay Soni,55, Chetna Soni, 52 and 77-year old Sushila Soni all residents of Udaipur, Rajasthan. Mauli Soni, 19, Mayuri,24, resident of Surat, Gujarat and 12 years old Cheshta all residents of Surat, Gujarat, Gauri Soni, 41, from Rajgarh Madhya Pradesh and Katta Ranjana Ashok,59, from Mira Road, Maharashtra were also informed by the SDRF as missing. Search and rescue operation was going on at the time of filing the story. SDRF claimed that rescue operation was challenging due to the strong river current, harsh terrain, bad weather and deep gorge. Expressing his grief over the accident chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that news of a bus carrying passengers plunging into a river in Rudraprayag was extremely sad "Relief and rescue operation is going on a war footing by SDRF and other agencies.I am in constant contact with the local administration regarding this matter. Three seriously injured passengers have been airlifted to AIIMS Rishikesh for immediate medical assistance. I pray to God for the speedy recovery of the injured" said Dhami. UNI XC RKM

Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau begins data extraction of AI-171 Black Box and Voice recorder
New Delhi [India], June 26 (ANI): The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have begun the data extraction process of the Black Box and the Cockpit Voice recorder (CVR) of AI-171, which had crashed in Ahmedabad, killing 241 passengers. According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the memory module was successfully accessed and its data downloaded at the AAIB Lab. The analysis of CVR and Flight Data Recorder (FDR) data is underway These efforts aim to reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the accident and identify contributing factors to enhance aviation safety and prevent future occurrences. The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) is the designated authority for such investigations, as India is a signatory to the ICAO Chicago Convention (1944) and investigates aircraft accidents per ICAO Annexe 13 Following the unfortunate accident involving Air India Flight AI-171, the AAIB promptly initiated an investigation and constituted a multidisciplinary team on June 13, in line with prescribed norms. The team, constituted as per international protocol, is led by the DG AAIB and includes an aviation medicine specialist, an ATC officer, and representatives from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) which is the government investigative agency from the state of manufacture and design, (USA), as required for such investigations. Both the Cockpit Voice Recorders (CVR) and Flight Data Recorders (FDR) were recovered--one from a rooftop of the building at the crash site on June 13, and the other from the debris on June 16, 2025. Standard Operating Procedures were issued for their secure handling, storage, and transportation. The devices were kept under 24/7 police protection and CCTV surveillance in Ahmedabad. Subsequently, the black boxes were brought from Ahmedabad to Delhi by IAF aircraft with full security on June 24. The front black box arrived AAIB Lab, Delhi with the DG, AAIB at 22 p.m. on June 24. The rear black box was brought by a second AAIB team and reached AAIB Lab, Delhi at 3:15 p.m. on June 24. On the evening of June 24, the team led by DG AAIB, with technical members from AAIB and NTSB, began the data extraction process. The Crash Protection Module (CPM) from the front black box was safely retrieved. On June 25, the memory module was successfully accessed and its data downloaded at the AAIB Lab. The analysis of CVR and FDR data is underway, and all actions have been taken in full compliance with domestic laws and international obligations in a time-bound manner. (ANI)
