Pak's 'Islamic Solidarity' Bid To Derail India Plan -- And A Malaysian Snub
Quick Read Summary is AI generated, newsroom reviewed. Pakistan attempted to disrupt an Indian delegation's visit to Malaysia, citing Islamic solidarity, but Kuala Lumpur rejected the interference. The delegation, led by JDU MP Sanjay Jha, visited multiple countries to raise awareness against terrorism. New Delhi: Pakistan tried to derail the Indian delegation's visit to Malaysia, citing Islamic solidarity, but Kuala Lumpur rejected Islamabad's interference, top sources have told NDTV. The Pakistani embassy urged Malaysian officials to cancel the Indian delegation's programmes, but this did not work, and the delegation received full support, the sources have said. All programmes of the delegation proceeded as planned. The development is being seen as a huge diplomatic snub to Islamabad. The Indian delegation was led by JDU MP Sanjay Jha and comprised BJP MPs Aparajita Sarangi, Brij Lal, Pradan Baruah and Hemang Joshi, Trinamool's Abhishek Banerjee, CPM's John Brittas, Congress's Salman Khurshid and former diplomat Mohan Kumar. Sources have said Pakistan, in its attempt to derail the delegation's itinerary, raised the Kashmir issue, but this did not cut ice. Besides Malaysia, the Sanjay Jha-led delegation visited Indonesia, South Korea, Japan and Singapore. It was one of the seven delegations that travelled abroad to expose Pakistan's role in terror attacks on Indian soil and articulate the Indian position after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 27 innocents and Operation Sindoor, India's counterstrike. The Sanjay Jha-led delegation returned to India today. Speaking to news agency IANS, Mr Jha said: "We visited Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Four or five important points emerged from the visit. Firstly, the all-party delegation sent by the government delivered a strong message that the entire country stands united on this issue against terrorism. Secondly, countries across the world unequivocally condemned the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and offered condolences to all 26 victims who died in the massacre. Thirdly, India only targeted terrorist centres and camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir with restraint and precision strikes. Fourth, flights have resumed in Jammu and Kashmir, apart from the Cabinet meeting being held in Pahalgam to review the situation on the ground. We urged that action should be taken against Pakistan by the FATF (Financial Action Task Force). The delegations have sent out a strong message against terror." CPM's John Brittas said, "Our mission was to sensitise other countries and convey the message that they must support India in its fight against terrorism." BJP's Aparajita Sarangi said it is good to be back. "Over the past 14 days, we visited five countries... One thing we feel is that every country stands with India and strongly condemns terrorism."

CPM should shut down offices and go to China, says Tripura BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb
Tripura BJP MP Biplab Kumar Deb said on Tuesday that the CPM should shut down its offices and go to China, responding to the Opposition party's condemnation of the encounter killing of 27 Maoists, including their general secretary Nambala Kesavarao, in Chhattisgarh. The party's Politburo had claimed that appeals for peace from Maoists had been ignored and that the central government as well as BJP-led the state government had chosen to ignore the possibility of dialogues with the rebels. 'The CPM is a banned organisation. Naxals are a banned organisation. Speaking of the banned organisation, the CPM has no place in democracy. If they have shame, they should close their party offices and go to China. They don't have a place in Tripura,' Deb told reporters on the sidelines of a visit to a flood relief camp at Durga Chowmuhani in Agartala. On May 23, Biplab Kumar Deb termed the CPM 'anti-national' for criticising the Centre over the killing of the Maoists. His comments came even though CPM Politburo member and state secretary Jitendra Chaudhury clarified that his party wasn't opposed to any form of military offensive against Maoists or any other radical elements. Rather, Chaudhury said, the party had said the central government had ignored offers of surrender the slain Maoists had allegedly made. 'The CPM or any other patriotic political party or organisation in the country is obviously not opposed to military offensives against terrorists. But while the government is holding peace talks in Nagaland, the central government's move to reject offers of surrender from Maoists and rejecting their plea to return to normal life is not the way things are done…..' Chaudhury said soon after the BJP criticised the Politburo statement. Chaudhury also claimed that while the BJP high command, central government or the Chhattisgarh government didn't criticise the CPM Politburo's statement, some leaders of the saffron party in Tripura were trying to confuse people. During his visit to flood relief camps at Agartala, Biplab Deb continued his tirade against the CPM while distributing food packets. 'Waterlogging in the houses of most people staying in the shelters has reduced. Now they will need to clean their houses in a few days and we have provided food packets to every family so that they have food after reaching home…,' the former chief minister said. Tripura is witnessing heavy rain and thunderstorms that have forced 10,813 people to abandon waterlogged houses and shelter in government camps. As many as 219 houses were damaged in Gomati, Khowai, Sepahijala, South Tripura, and North Tripura districts. However, the assessment of damage is ongoing.

Panakkad family junks poll meet, UDF red-faced in Kerala
MALAPPURAM: In what is being interpreted as a loud, clear and blunt message, members of the revered Panakkad Thangal family didn't show up for the election convention of UDF candidate Aryadan Shoukath in Nilambur on Monday. The no-show has embarrassed the Opposition front, already mired in one controversy after another. No one from the family turned up for the convention though at least two key members were in Malappuram. IUML state president Panakkad Syed Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal is in Saudi Arabia for Haj. In his absence, it was normal practice to depute Malappuram district president Syed Abbas Ali Shihab Thangal for important functions. Syed Munavvar Ali Shihab Thangal, state president of the Muslim Youth League, also stayed away from the function. CPM was quick to react to the development forcing the UDF on to the back foot. 'No one from the Panakkad family turned up for the UDF convention. Neither did (senior leaders) Sudhakaran and Ramesh Chennithala,' CPM central committee member P K Sreemathy posted on Facebook. 'Can the Panakkad family campaign for a candidate who abused Thangal?' asked Bineesh Kodiyeri, the son of former CPM state secretary late Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, in another social media post

Allocate more funds for education of children from Koraga community, says activist
Mangaluru: Social activist and CPM district secretary Muneer Katipalla urged both central and state govts to invest substantially in the education of children from the Koraga community. He spoke at the inauguration of a personality development and scholarship distribution programme for Koraga community students, organised by the Shri Koragajja Seva Trust in Vamanjoor. "The indigenous Koraga community, inheritors of all modern knowledge traditions, is a tribal community on the brink of extinction due to exploitation from the hierarchical caste system. In the current era of globalisation, liberalisation, and privatisation, formal education is essential to secure even minimal opportunities," said Muneer. Further, he emphasised the need to allocate at least 10% of the annual income from the numerous Koragajja shrines in both districts to the education of Koraga community children. Krishnappa Konchadi, the state co-director of the Karnataka Adivasi Rights Coordination Committee, said that education is the first step towards the liberation of the indigenous Koraga community of coastal Karnataka, who were victims of centuries of injustice, exploitation, oppression, and caste untouchability. He stressed that both the govt and society must work with a spirit of dedication towards this cause. Shri Koragajja Seva Trust distributed student scholarship funds to 100 students pursuing education in extreme poverty.

PV Anwar to contest Nilambur bypoll
Anwar said CM Pinarayi Vijayan has asked the Opposition leader not to accommodate him as he is the bete noire for the CPM after he raised serious allegations against the LDF government. "Shoukath, who has no chance of winning, was fielded against the LDF candidate. Satheesan has not yielded to words of the IUML, which is the second largest constituent of the UDF. IUML has reservations over the way Satheesan is handling things, but the party is maintaining silence due to political decency," he said. He said Shoukath cannot represent the Muslim community as he had criticised the community through his films. 'He had insulted even the members of the Panakkad family,' Anwar said. Anwar also lashed out against LDF candidate M Swaraj saying he is the greatest supporter of 'Pinaraiyism.' He even insulted CPM leader V S Achuthanandan to appease Pinarayi . Anwar, on Saturday morning said that he would not contest the polls as he has no fund. However, later in the night he changed his stand expressing that people are approaching him with financial assistance and putting pressure to contest. Anwar will file his nomination papers on June 2.
