‘There are no breaks and no bonus': Proud trad wife barks back at critics who ‘think being at home isn't real work'
A modern-day 'Leave It To Beaver' family.
In an era when many women are trying to step away from traditional gender roles, Maria West is doing the complete opposite — by proudly owning the title of being a 'trad wife.'
The Seattle woman loves nothing more than being a stay-at-home mom and wife while her real estate husband goes out to work all day.
Most of the days, the 30-year-old can be found at home fulfilling her homemaking duties, taking care of her family and tending to their home — and she does it all while wearing a full face of makeup, sometimes a sundress and a smile on her face.
'I don't want to look like one of the boys,' the mother-of-two told What's The Jam.

'Even in the chaos of motherhood, I want to feel soft, beautiful and grounded.'
The 30-year-old said it's not vain of her to want to look and feel good while she's tending to the needs of her family.
'I want to reflect love and care for my home, my husband and my children – and that starts with how I carry myself,' she told the outlet.

'Sometimes it's a full face of makeup and a dress, other days it's a brushed ponytail and a matching lounge set – but I always try.'
West acknowledges that her attitude is quite unique — especially these days.
'Culture tells women to fear getting left behind, to hustle, to choose independence over intimacy. My rebellion is building something with my husband and showing my children that motherhood is powerful, not passive,' she said.
And this mom isn't the only one embracing the sourdough making, dinner on the table by 6 p.m. lifestyle.

A California mom and influencer, Gretchen Adler lives a similar life — yet takes her Suzy Homemaker ways a step further.
Adler has gone viral on social media for her time in the kitchen making unprocessed versions of classic junk food for her family, like homemade Cheez-Its and Oreos.
'I think a lot of women are looking for this lifestyle,' Adler, 38, told The Post.
'They want to take back their homes. They want to get out of the fast-paced lifestyle of the job environment, the boss babe mentality, and they just want to be home.'
'I don't think it needs to have a negative connotation at all,' she added.
And despite these women receiving criticism from others — they seem rather unfazed by it.
'Some people assume that choosing home means you're repressed or small-minded, which is wild considering I'm just over here making soup and minding my own business,' West told What's The Jam.
'And if anyone still thinks being at home isn't real work, I invite them to keep a toddler alive, fed and off the kitchen counters for 12 hours straight – [where there are] no breaks and no bonus,' she said.

Macklemore's Seattle home reportedly robbed with his 3 children inside
Macklemore's Seattle home was reportedly robbed over the weekend while his three children were asleep in their rooms. The shocking home invasion incident unfolded shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday, June 7, according to a police report shared with The Post by the Seattle Police Department (SPD). A woman, later identified as the homeowner's nanny, called the SPD at approximately 12:48 a.m. to report that two men had allegedly broken into the residence and sprayed her with bear mace. Advertisement It also left the name 'Davis' unredacted in one portion of the report, which matches the last name of Macklemore's wife, Tricia Davis. Macklemore and Davis, both 41, share three children: Sloane, 10, Colette, 7, and Hugo, 3. 'She [the nanny] escaped, but three children were still inside the house,' the police report read. '[The nanny] also added that the house belonged to a high-profile individual, [redacted], and that she believed the crime may have been politically motivated for some reason.' 7 Macklemore and his wife, Tricia Davis, share three children. Last month, Macklemore shared a lengthy Instagram post in which he condemned the attacks on Gaza and the backlash that artists like himself were facing for 'standing up against a genocide.' He was also axed from a music festival back in September after he chanted 'f–k America' during the Palestine Will Live Forever charity music event in Seattle. 7 The address of the home invasion reportedly matched the address listed in Macklemore's voting record. Redferns Advertisement Elsewhere in the report, the responding officer wrote that he found the nanny in 'obvious fear' at a neighboring residence. She told the police that she was at the house and, after putting the three children to bed in their rooms on the home's second floor, witnessed two men entering a patio door near an office, according to the officer's notes. The nanny further alleged that the two men entered the home and sprayed her with bear mace, then yelled, 'Where are the jewels, bitch?' 7 The homeowner's nanny claimed that 'the crime may have been politically motivated.' Redferns She said she led them upstairs to the main bedroom, at which point the two suspects allegedly 'went through drawers, cabinets and raided the closet full of clothing, jewelry and shoes.' The SPD, in a separate release about the incident shared on Saturday afternoon, said that the two men 'ransacked the residence, stealing thousands of dollars of items.' The nanny also claimed that she was thrown to the ground and physically assaulted by the suspects before managing to break free. 7 Police arrived at the home and found the residence in 'obvious signs of disarray.' '[She] then fled through the bathroom and out of the house,' it continued. '[She] knocked on numerous residences before someone opened the door and allowed her inside to call the police.' Cops later arrived and found the residence in 'obvious signs of disarray.' 7 The three children were 'safely extracted' from the home by the Seattle Police Dept. Getty Images Advertisement The responding officers were able to 'safely extract' the three children from the home, at which point they were handed off to family members who had arrived at the residence. 'The house was searched and checked clear of any suspects, with the three children safely extracted,' the report read. 'There were obvious signs of disarray in the portions of the house described by [redacted] to be involved and bear spray was still present in the air through portions of the house.' 'Various family members responded to the scene,' it continued. 'I escorted the family and [redacted] to the house after the scene was rendered safe and the house was searched. The family members took custody of the children for the evening and took them to a safe residence nearby.' The Post has reached out to Macklemore's reps for comment.

Boho-chic LA retreat in tight-knit enclave where rock legends like Neil Young once lived lists for $4.99M
Living like a rock star is all it's cracked up to be in Topanga, California's 'Egg House.' The four-bedroom, five-bathroom listing, reported by Top Ten Real Estate Deals, is part of the tight-knit community that Neil Young, Jim Morrison, Joni Mitchell, several members of The Eagles and Linda Ronstadt have all called home. Jennifer Tucker of Compass holds the $4.99 million listing. The 3,350-square-foot home did not earn its reputation from any former famous occupants, however. The 'Egg House' moniker came from the unconventional, new age inspirations behind its construction. 8 The Topanga home enjoys mountain vistas. Jam Press/Dan Shetron 8 Stone floors and hand-plastered walls add to the home's artisanal aesthetic. Jam Press/Anthony Barcelo 8 The artists behind the custom-built home were inspired by ideas of new life. Jam Press/Dan Shetron The home's builders, two artists, were inspired by the concept of an embryo. Chad Hagerman and Allison Ochmanek of Rascal Makers built the residence as a symbol of 'the origin of life, potential and transformation,' according to the outlet. The retreat, perched above a canyon, boasts an open-concept layout that exudes warmth, with hand-plastered walls, artisan stone, walnut millwork and antique oak flooring. The serene interiors include a chef's kitchen with walnut cabinetry and stone countertops, as well as a large family room with access to an outdoor deck. 8 Homes in Topanga have long attracted artists and nature-lovers. A steel and walnut staircase connects to the second floor with a spa-like primary suite and three ensuite bedrooms. A subterranean floor includes a two-car garage. The 1.25-acre property enjoys unobstructed views of the surrounding vistas, with an orchard of fruit trees and native plant gardens cultivated with California and Australian ecosystems in mind. There are also two additional guest houses perfect for an artist's studio or fitness space. 8 Joni Mitchell, a frequent Topanga resident, plays guitar at her Los Angeles home in 1970. Getty Images The area around the property has a long legacy among artists and creatives. The community, nestled in the Santa Monica Mountains, served as a popular hippy oasis amid the back-to-nature movement of the 1960s and 70s. Artists like Neil Young and Joni Mitchell called Topanga home in that era, and Marvin Gaye once described it as 'a place where I can create my masterpiece.' The home is just a short drive to the former site of the Topanga Corral, a famous rock 'n' roll roadhouse venue — since burned down — that inspired The Doors' hit song 'Roadhouse Blues,' hosted a Canned Heat live album and saw performances by Etta James and Linda Ronstadt.

High Line putting on first-ever Pigeon Impersonation Pageant
She's got beauty, she's got grace. She's got feathers on her face. East Village artist Miriam Abrahams is one of seven acts competing for the crown at the inaugural Pigeon Impersonation Pageant on the High Line, an event aimed at reinvigorating love for the city squabs amid a surge of shocking hate and crime against them. The 34-year-old has had plenty of practice cooing along in her beloved paper mâché pigeon costume — but Saturday will mark the first time she'll take the stage dressed as one of the iconic city birds. 7 Miriam Abrahams is one of seven acts competing in the High Line's inaugural Pigeon Impersonation Pageant. Stephen Yang 'They're the underdogs, but they're brilliant and intelligent animals,' Abrahams, 34, told The Post. 'I feel like I want to give them a moment and just kind of show them off a bit.' The first-ever pigeon pageant is expected to be the highlight of the High Line's day-long Pigeon Fest, which will include games like pin the tail on the pigeon and pigeon corn hole, as well as panels educating visitors on how to make the Big Apple friendly for birds. Each act — some of which include multiple contestants — will have two minutes to coo, squawk and waddle in front of the crowd, Project Runway style. 7 The East Village artist first made the costume for Halloween in 2022. Stephen Yang The lucky ducks who make it to the second round will have to soar to new heights for their chance at the title by either dancing, lip synching or some other form of creative storytelling, even if it means taking their pigeon impersonation to fantastical levels. Several awards will be given out to the contestants, but only one will be crowned the first-ever 'Top Pigeon of New York City.' As whimsical as it sounds, the pageant is also very serious — each contender was plucked for the event after submitting an audition. Abrahams is confident, however, that she has the pageant in the bag. The England-born artist has slipped into 'Pigeon,' a simply, but aptly named persona, on numerous occasions over the years and has perfected her bobbing. 7 Abrahams adopts the 'Pigeon' persona whenever she dons the costume. Stephen Yang 7 'They're the underdogs, but they're brilliant and intelligent animals,' Abrahams said of the fowl. Stephen Yang 7 The pageant winner will be crowned the 'Top Pigeon of New York City.' Stephen Yang 'It's become my New York City persona. When I put it on, I become 'Pigeon' and I take on those traits — they're so intelligent, silly. They're wonderful creatures,' explained Abrahams, who crafts plenty of costumes and statues as a member of the Pussypaws Puppetry troupe. Abrahams offered The Post an exclusive sneak peek at how she slips into Pigeon, a chicken wire and paper mâché ensemble she originally intended just to be part of a Big Apple-themed Halloween foursome that also included a rat, cockroach and exterminator. But the English-born artist fell in love with the costume and has donned it several times over the last few years, popping up throughout the city to hang out with her fellow flock and even square up with confused canines. 'In the past year, I had someone come up to me with a piece of bread and I ran over to them and started pecking,' said Abrahams, calling the live performances 'magic.' Her typical performance included bobbing and playing cooing noises from a speaker hidden inside Pigeon's massive cranium — but she promised that her pageant act will involve much more 'pizzaz.' 'I'm going to be accompanied by some very wholesome New York accompaniment with the sounds and the music that's going to be involved in this,' Abrahams teased, opting to keep any further details close to her wings. Other than her love of performing, Abrahams was drawn to the pageant for her deep love of animals — especially for the birds who are derogitarily referred to as the rats of the sky. 'I really do believe they get a bad rep with a lot of people and in the city and a lot of it is lack of knowledge,' said Abrahams, a longtime volunteer with the Wild Bird Fund. 7 'People often think that they are dirty and diseased, but it's actually the cities we built and all the trash and stuff that they eat that makes them that way,' said Abrahams. Stephen Yang 'People often think that they are dirty and diseased, but it's actually the cities we built and all the trash and stuff that they eat that makes them that way.' That sentiment — and a splash of the look-alike contests that were sweeping the city — is exactly what inspired the pageant and Pigeon Fest in the first place. The day-long festival centers around 'Dinosaur,' the massive Pigeon sculpture by Iván Argote that has been guarding the railroad garden since the summer. 'I think it's key that there's no more iconic bird in urban centres than the pigeon, but it's simultaneously maligned and marginalised, and that makes it a really powerful symbol for exploring all of these related themes,' said Taylor Zakarin, the associate curator for High Line Art. 7 Pigeon Fest will center around 'Dinosaur,' a massive sculpture of a pigeon by Iván Argote. Stephen Yang Despite the heavy themes, Zakarin promised the pageant would be all in good fun. The Top Pigeon of New York City is the award to win, but the Best Plumage, Coolest Moves, Fiercest Flapper and Avant Garde Avian awards will also be up for grabs. There will even be an audience participation award, Zakarin teased. 'We certainly wouldn't be mad if people showed up in costume to watch the performance because they might just win an award for themselves,' she said.
