PG&E (PCG) Stock Short-Circuits in 2025 as Regulatory Risk Sparks Investor Jitters
PG&E Corp (NYSE:PCG) is one of the most oversold S&P 500 stocks so far in 2025. After a relatively better performance in 2024, PG&E stock has been a laggard in 2025 with declines of over 33%, and is now trading near the bottom of its 52-week range. A major part of this correction occurred in June, when the shares nosedived by around 20%. Investors became increasingly cautious after several reform proposals were advanced, including regulatory changes as part of the California utility regulation overhaul bill. Investors were already digesting the company's May announcement of its plan to keep rates flat for the next few years. While management stated that utility bills won't rise in 2025 and will fall in 2026, consumers appeared to remain sceptical, as the company has already raised rates multiple times in 2024. A utility employee connecting wires at a power station in order to distribute electricity to customers. Driven by regulatory uncertainty, analyst opinions on the shares remained mixed. In mid-May, Morgan Stanley analyst David Arcaro had cut his price target on PG&E Corp (NYSE:PCG) to $18 from $18.5. While utilities continue to see good demand from both data centers and large load customers, the analyst maintained his Underperform rating. More recently, in mid-June, Bank of America Securities analyst Ross Fowler maintained a Buy rating with a price target of $24. PG&E Corp (NYSE:PCG) provides electric and natural gas distribution services, as well as electric generation and natural gas transmission and storage services, through its subsidiaries. PG&E serves retail customers for both electric and natural gas in northern and central California. While we acknowledge the potential of PCG as an investment, we believe certain AI stocks offer greater upside potential and carry less downside risk. Kohl's shares double in value as retail investors pile in
(Reuters) -Shares of U.S. department store chain Kohl's more than doubled in value on Tuesday, making it one of the most-traded stocks on retail trading platforms and triggering a trading halt. The stock is the No. 1 trending ticker on retail investor forum Stocktwits. About 49% of Kohl's outstanding shares available for trading are shorted, LSEG data showed. After trading resumed, it was last up 30% at $13.32. "Kohl's has a lot of (fundamental) issues and yet this kind of crazy group move up just exemplifies what's happening with the retail investor where they're going to hop on superfast momentum stocks that we love to call meme stocks and hope to be able to make money," said Kim Forrest, chief investment officer at Bokeh Capital Partners. About 87 million shares traded hands by 10 a.m. ET, 11 times its 25-day moving average volume, bringing back memories of a 'meme-stock' rally from 2021 in highly shorted retail favorites such as GameStop and AMC Entertainment. Meme stock rally burst into the open in 2021 when the COVID-19 lockdowns boosted savings, policy stimulus put cash into people's pockets and extremely low interest rates pushed investors to the stock market. Earlier this week, other highly shorted stocks such as Opendoor Technologies also witnessed strong retail interest. The online residential real estate platform's shares were up 10%, having gained more than 300% over the past six sessions. Jefferies Maintains Underperform on Lululemon (LULU), Trims Target to $175
Lululemon Athletica Inc. (NASDAQ:LULU) is one of the most oversold S&P 500 stocks so far in 2025. In a note published on July 2, Jefferies analyst Randal Konik shared his findings after visiting several key retail locations, including Roosevelt Field Mall, Walt Whitman Shops, and Woodbury Common Outlets, just ahead of the July 4th weekend. According to him, foot traffic appeared noticeably weaker across these sites. Konik sees growing headwinds for Lululemon, citing increased markdowns, softer store traffic, and intensifying competition. He also points out that the company's inventory is rising faster than its sales, which raises concerns about demand sustainability. In his view, the current strategy of expanding retail and outlet locations is doing little to support growth and may actually be working against the brand, contributing to margin pressure from rising rent costs and weakening brand perception. A store employee in an athletic apparel store restocking merchandise. Despite the company's recent efforts, the analyst maintains a cautious stance. He continues to expect a decline in both U.S. sales and earnings per share in 2025. Reflecting this view, Konik reiterated his Underperform rating and lowered his price target on the stock to $175 from $200. Lululemon Athletica Inc.
