The development follows the deployment of Turkish drones by Pakistan against India during the four-day military confrontation in May
A troubling new dimension has seemingly emerged in the cross-border dynamics between India and Pakistan, with some reports suggesting Pakistan is now utilising drones to air-drop Turkish PX5 pistols into Punjab. The development follows the deployment of Turkish drones by Pakistan against India during the four-day military confrontation in May. Officials believe the primary goal behind this illicit arms supply is to destabilise law and order in the Indian state of Punjab by arming local gangsters and terror modules with advanced foreign weaponry, says a report by The Tribune.
The alarming trend has been substantiated by multiple recoveries made by Indian security agencies this month alone, the report adds. In three separate operations across Punjab, security forces have seized PX5 pistols manufactured by TISAS in Turkey.
In a parallel operation, the Amritsar Rural Police intercepted a consignment in Lopoke village, leading to the arrest of Lovepreet Singh, alias Love, and Balwinder Singh, alias Bobby, with one PX5 (.30 bore) pistol, 6.15 kg of heroin, and Rs 10,000 in suspected narco-funds.
Investigations revealed these weapons were allegedly air-dropped by a drone sent by a Pakistan-based handler named Noor. A day later, on June 6, the Tarn Taran police detained Surajpal Singh and Arshdeep Singh from Lakhna village, seizing two PX5 pistols along with four Glock 9mm pistols, a consignment also linked by police to Pakistani handlers.

Lucknow surgeon booked for giving a ‘local look' to 2 Uzbek women

LUCKNOW: A Lucknow-based private plastic surgeon and his friend have been booked by the police for allegedly facilitating the illegal stay and cosmetic surgeries of two women from Uzbekistan in the state capital. The FIR invokes sections of the BNS, specifically 318(4) for cheating and 61 for criminal conspiracy, along with Section 5 of the Registration of Foreigners Act, 1939, and Sections 14(A) and 7(1) of the Foreigners Act, 1946, pertaining to the illegal stay of foreign nationals and violation of the relevant act. (Pic for representation) According to Lucknow police officials, the surgeon, despite knowing about the women's unauthorised entry into the country, conducted surgeries to alter their appearance to resemble local individuals and provided them with accommodation in the city through his friend. Police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Dr Vivek Gupta, who operates Minerva Clinic, and Trijinraj alias Arjun Rana at the Sushant Golf City police station on Friday. The charges include allegedly aiding the illegal stay of the Uzbekistan women and assisting them in undergoing plastic surgeries without verifying their identities or immigration status. Dr Gupta has two clinics located near Patrakarpuram, Gomti Nagar, and Ahimamau. The FIR, filed by sub-inspector Mahesh Kumar Singh, invokes sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), specifically 318(4) for cheating and 61 for criminal conspiracy, along with Section 5 of the Registration of Foreigners Act, 1939, and Sections 14(A) and 7(1) of the Foreigners Act, 1946, pertaining to the illegal stay of foreign nationals and violation of the relevant act. According to the complainant, the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) conducted a raid on Flat No. 527 in New Hazratganj on June 20, 2025, based on confidential intelligence. The FIR states that the flat was allegedly rented out for commercial purposes without informing the local police, FRRO, or administrative authorities. During the raid, officials found two Uzbekistan nationals, identified as Holida and Nilofar, who had been residing there since June 18. The women allegedly failed to produce valid passports or visas and did not cooperate with the inquiry, as per the FIR. During interrogation, the women claimed to have lost their travel documents approximately two years prior, after arriving in India, and had requested acquaintances, including Lola Kayumova and Trijinraj, to report the loss. However, they could not confirm if a formal complaint was ever filed. They further stated that Lola, who has been residing in India for an extended period, introduced them to Dr. Vivek Gupta for plastic surgery procedures. The FIR alleges that these surgeries were performed without verifying their identity or legal status. The women also stated that Dr. Gupta and Rana were responsible for arranging their accommodation in New Hazratganj. Trijinraj reportedly resides in Flat No. 104 of Omaxe R1, while Dr. Gupta stays in Flat No. 1103 of the same building. Both women have been placed under surveillance by the FRRO as the investigation progresses. Authorities are now investigating a potential larger network involved in facilitating illegal immigration, identity manipulation and document forgery.

HM Shah to visit Chhattisgarh today to bolster anti-Maoist strategy

New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Chhattisgarh on Sunday for a crucial two-day visit to strengthen the ongoing crackdown against left-wing extremism and launch key infrastructure projects to support forensic investigation capabilities in the region. During the visit (June 22-23), HM Shah is scheduled to chair a high-level meeting with senior security and administrative officials to evaluate the progress made in the fight against Maoist insurgency. The meeting will also focus on refining the Centre's strategy to achieve the declared goal of eliminating Maoist influence by the set deadline of March 31, 2026. Highlighting the Centre's commitment to long-term stability and improved security infrastructure in the region, Shah will also lay the foundation stone for a campus of the prestigious National Forensic Science University (NFSU) in Naya Raipur. The proposed world-class campus will be developed on 40 acres of land already allocated by the state government. The estimated cost for the project is between Rs 350–400 crore and will be entirely funded by the Central government. In addition to the NFSU campus, a separate 6-acre area has been earmarked for a state-run forensic laboratory, aimed at further enhancing the state's investigative capabilities. According to Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma, the Union Home Minister will perform the 'bhoomi-pujan' for both facilities during his visit. Shah will also spend time at one of the frontline security camps, reflecting the Centre's solidarity with forces operating in high-risk zones. Sources familiar with the anti-Naxal operations have reported significant success, with 32 out of 45 members of the Maoist Central Committee already neutralised in various encounters. Efforts continue to locate and apprehend the remaining top leaders of the outlawed outfit.
