HM Shah to visit Chhattisgarh today to bolster anti-Maoist strategy
New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to arrive in Chhattisgarh on Sunday for a crucial two-day visit to strengthen the ongoing crackdown against left-wing extremism and launch key infrastructure projects to support forensic investigation capabilities in the region.
During the visit (June 22-23), HM Shah is scheduled to chair a high-level meeting with senior security and administrative officials to evaluate the progress made in the fight against Maoist insurgency.
The meeting will also focus on refining the Centre's strategy to achieve the declared goal of eliminating Maoist influence by the set deadline of March 31, 2026.
Highlighting the Centre's commitment to long-term stability and improved security infrastructure in the region, Shah will also lay the foundation stone for a campus of the prestigious National Forensic Science University (NFSU) in Naya Raipur. The proposed world-class campus will be developed on 40 acres of land already allocated by the state government.
The estimated cost for the project is between Rs 350–400 crore and will be entirely funded by the Central government.
In addition to the NFSU campus, a separate 6-acre area has been earmarked for a state-run forensic laboratory, aimed at further enhancing the state's investigative capabilities. According to Chhattisgarh Home Minister Vijay Sharma, the Union Home Minister will perform the 'bhoomi-pujan' for both facilities during his visit.
Shah will also spend time at one of the frontline security camps, reflecting the Centre's solidarity with forces operating in high-risk zones.
Sources familiar with the anti-Naxal operations have reported significant success, with 32 out of 45 members of the Maoist Central Committee already neutralised in various encounters.
Efforts continue to locate and apprehend the remaining top leaders of the outlawed outfit.

83-year-old retiree loses Rs 1.19 crore in fake IPO scam
An 83-year-old retired man from Dadar, Mumbai, has fallen prey to a sophisticated online stock investment scam, losing Rs 1.19 crore after being lured by fraudsters posing as financial advisors. The incident began on March 10, when the senior citizen clicked on a stock investment advertisement on social media. He was subsequently added to a WhatsApp group named G-5 ICICI Stock Exchange Group, which appeared to be managed by two individuals identified as Vinita Patodia and Ashwin Parekh. The group, with over 90 members, frequently posted messages boasting of high returns from stock trades. On April 2, Patodia privately messaged the victim, asking if he was interested in investing. After he agreed, she sent him a registration link. Soon after, a person named Pranay Warma contacted him and, referencing Patodia, persuaded him to invest Rs 7.5 lakh as an initial amount. Over the following weeks—between May 2 and May 23—the victim made multiple transfers to various bank accounts, believing he was investing in IPOs. The scammers sent fake documents and screenshots showing inflated virtual returns to gain his confidence. When he requested a payout, the fraudsters demanded a 10% commission on the supposed profits. His suspicion grew after his messages and calls began going unanswered. He then consulted a friend, who confirmed it was a scam. Live Events The victim filed a complaint via the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (1930), and the case has since been transferred to the Cyber Police (Central Division). CBI court in Bihar sentences three to 3-year rigorous imprisonment in 1991 bank fraud case
New Delhi: A CBI court in Patna, Bihar, has sentenced three accused to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed fines in a bank fraud case filed in 1991. The court sentenced three accused -- two then Managers of Kshetriya Gramin Bank and a private person -- to three years' rigorous imprisonment in Bihar's Darbhanga. A fine of Rs 4 lakh has also been levied upon them. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a press release on Sunday said the CBI Court at Patna, on Saturday, pronounced the sentence. The three were identified as Barun Kumar Mishra, the then Manager, Mithila Kshetriya Gramin Bank, Kahua Branch, Darbhanga; Mohan Jee Mishra, the then Branch Manager, Mithila Kshetriya Gramin Bank, Bahera Branch, Madhubani and a private person, namely Dayanand Jha. They will undergo three years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with a total fine of Rs 4 lakh in a case related to bank fraud. The CBI had registered the case on August 14, 1991, against Barun Kumar Mishra, the then Officer Incharge of Mithila Kshetriya Gramin Bank (MKGB) Kohua Branch and a Field Officer, Mithila Kshetriya Gramin Bank (MKGB) Kohua Branch. It was alleged that the accused persons, while functioning as branch officer and field officer, respectively of MKG Bank during 1989-90 entered into criminal conspiracy and in furtherance of the said conspiracy they misappropriated a sum of Rs 2,48,642/- by manipulating debit and credit entries in HSS account No.1114, shown maintained in the name of one Dayanand Jha, son of Shardanand Jha, and a resident of Darbhanga. After the investigation, two separate charge sheets were filed by the CBI on November 30, 1994, for different instances of misappropriation. The first charge sheet was filed in the Ld. Court of Special Judge CBI Cases Patna against Barun Kumar Mishra, Mohan Jee Mishra, and Dayanand Jha. The court, after trial, found the accused guilty and sentenced them accordingly. The second charge sheet was filed in the Ld. Court of Special Judicial Magistrate CBI Cases Patna against Barun Kumar Mishra, which is sub-judice in the Muzaffarpur Court in Bihar.
