RSS mask comes off; it wants 'Manusmriti', not Constitution: Rahul Gandhi
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday (June 27, 2025) said the mask of the RSS has come off again as it wants "Manusmriti" and not the Constitution, after the general secretary of the organisation, Dattatreya Hosabale, sought a review of the words "socialist" and "secular" in the Preamble to the Constitution.
"The mask of RSS has come off again. The Constitution irks them because it speaks of equality, secularism and justice," Mr. Gandhi said in a post in Hindi on X.
"The RSS, BJP do not want the Constitution, they want 'Manusmriti'. They aim to strip the marginalised and poor of their rights and enslave them again. Snatching a powerful weapon like the Constitution from them is their real agenda," the leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha alleged.

"The RSS should stop dreaming this dream -- we will never let it succeed. Every patriotic Indian will defend the Constitution until their last breath," Mr. Gandhi asserted.
Addressing an event organised on Emergency on Thursday, Mr. Hosabale said, "The Preamble to the Constitution Baba Saheb Ambedkar made never had these words. During Emergency, when fundamental rights were suspended, Parliament did not work, the judiciary became lame, then these words were added." The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) general secretary said discussions were held on this issue later but no effort was made to remove those words from the Preamble. So whether those words should remain in the Preamble should be considered, he added.
"The Preamble is eternal. Are the thoughts of socialism as an ideology eternal for India?" Mr. Hosabale asked.

She urged the BJP in West Bengal not to politicise the incident and behave as a responsible opposition. She assures strict action against all the accused. Addressing a press conference, Shashi Panja said, 'There was an immediate postmortem and dissection to look at the names and the religion. You have to condemn the incident. You are now trying to show photographs. Trinamool Congress Student wing is not teaching the students to rape. The police took immediate action, and within 12 hours of the complaint, three people were caught. They are in custody, and the investigation is on. Their mobile phones have been seized, and the victim's statement has been taken. She has named the accused. It has been taken seriously. The BJP cannot even think the way Kolkata police swung into action. They started maligning since such swift action is missing in the BJP-ruled states. If they want to be in Bengal as a responsible Opposition, then they have to behave responsibly.' She hit out at the BJP and accused the Central government of holding the Aparajita Bill. 'The Aparajita Bill, which was passed in our Vidhan Sabha before 10 months, who has stopped it from becoming a law? BJP has put it on hold at the centre. The guilty will be punished,' she further said. A female student was allegedly gang-raped inside a law college in Kolkata's Kasba on Wednesday evening. The police have arrested all three accused within 24 hours. The three accused, named as Monojit Mishra (31), Zaib Ahmed (19), and Pramit Mukhopadhyay (20), were former students or staff members of the same law college. According to the police, the accused named in the FIR will be produced before the A.C.J.M. of Alipore, South 24 Parganas, with a prayer to remand them to Police Custody for the purpose of a proper investigation into the case. The alleged sexual assault took place between 7:30 pm and 10:50 pm on Wednesday within the law college premises. According to the official, one of the accused allegedly committed sexual assault, while the others were involved in the crime. The victim's family filed a police complaint against the accused, and the police have taken swift action in the matter. Two of the accused, Monojit Mishra and Zaib Ahmed, were arrested on Thursday, near Siddhartha Shankar Roy Sishu Udyan, close to Talbagan Crossing in Kolkata. Pramit Mukhopadhyay was arrested later the same night at his residence. The police have seized the mobile phones of all three accused. The official had visited the site and kept it under protection till they had done a forensic examination. They requested custody remand for further investigation. (ANI)

Will reclaim 4,400 acres of encroached land belonging to satras: Himanta
1 2 Guwahati: Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday reiterated his govt's pledge to reclaim over 4,400 acres of land, belonging to 922 Vaishnavite satras (monastic institutions) in four districts of the state, alleging that they have been encroached upon by illegal immigrants during previous Congress govts. "The Congress govt ignored sentiments of the indigenous people, while pandering to their illegal immigrant vote bank, which led to 922 Satra lands being encroached upon. Thousands of bighas of Satra lands are encroached across major centres," Sarma posted on X. Detailing the extent of encroachment, Sarma wrote that 7,137 bighas (2,355 acres) of satra land in Barpeta, 2,583.79 bighas (852 acres) in Nagaon, 2,757.39 bighas (909 acres) in Bajali and 896.76 bighas (295 acres) in Lakhimpur were being occupied by illegal immigrants. "We are on a mission to reclaim them," the CM added. The state govt has previously launched large-scale eviction and land recovery drives, successfully reclaiming significant portions of encroached land in recent years. To further protect these heritage sites, the Assam assembly has also passed the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation (Second Amendment) Bill, 2024, which restricts outsiders from buying land near heritage institutions, including major satras. In a comprehensive approach, the govt has also established a temporary Satra Aayog (commission) to oversee the protection, welfare and sustainable development of satras, with a long-term vision plan for their revival and preservation. This includes initiating legal and administrative reforms, such as satellite mapping and protective zoning under Mission Basundhara 3.0, to formalize land ownership and prevent further encroachment.

Kerala CM slams RSS call to review secularism and socialism in Constitution
T'puram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan came out against RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's demand to review secularism and socialism that were included in the preamble of the Indian constitution. "RSS general secretary Dattatreya Hosabale's call to review secularism and socialism in the Indian Constitution is a brazen attempt to dismantle the core ideals of our republic," Vijayan wrote in a social media post on Friday. Hosabale, on Thursday, demanded that the words socialist and secular, added to the preamble of the Indian Constitution by Indira Gandhi, should be reviewed. Invoking the Emergency to discredit these principles was a deceitful move, especially when RSS colluded with the Indira Gandhi govt during that time for its own survival, said the chief minister. "To use that period now to undermine the Constitution reflects sheer hypocrisy and political opportunism," he said. Secularism and socialism were not additions; they define India. Every citizen who believes in democracy must raise their voice against this communal agenda, said the chief minister. Meanwhile, CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam said CPI will oppose 'the new move by RSS to rewrite the preamble of the Constitution'. "Secularism and socialism are values that the country has always regarded as fundamental to Indian democracy. From the very beginning, RSS claimed that these are Western concepts and that there was nothing Indian about them," said Viswam.
