A stop at the Pavilion Theatre is a must
The Sun's Head of Travel Lisa Minot often visits the seaside town.
She said: "If you're craving a little nostalgic look at how we holidayed before the advent of package holidays to the Med, then Gorleston ticks every box.
"I was entranced with this little slice of old-school seaside fun from the moment I saw my kids scamper onto the broad sweep of sandy beach.
"We were blessed with a very untypically sunny day and after sandcastles were made and destroyed, it was an easy stroll through the lovely gardens in search of ice cream.
"It may be just half an hour from the bright lights of Great Yarmouth but with my little ones in tow, the relaxed, family-friendly focussed Gorleston gave us a chance to pause and relax."
MUST SEE/DO
Just a few miles from the action of Great Yarmouth's Golden Mile, Gorleston-on-Sea offers a quieter stretch of golden sand with a huge bay.
The coastal town features in Tripadvisor's annual Travellers Choice Best of the Best Beaches list for 2025.
It was named 23rd best beach in Europe and one of only two UK spots featured on the list.
It boasts cliff-top gardens and a grand promenade perfect for walking and cycling.
An unspoilt gem of a resort, it is easy to see why Gorleston's charm caught the eye of director Danny Boyle, who used it as a backdrop to feelgood film Yesterday.
HIDDEN GEM
The Gorleston Pavilion, an Edwardian seaside theatre, features an eclectic mix of plays, pantomimes, musicals and an unmissable Summer Show which runs every Tuesday from May 6 to October 7 this year.
This gorgeous old theatre seats 300 cabaret style at candlelit tables and is all on one level, making it fully accessible to wheelchairs.
Drinks are served to your table by friendly bar staff.
Discover UK's Best Beaches: Hidden Gems Revealed
The adjacent bandstand has summer concerts throughout the main season so you can bring a chair and a picnic and listen to the music while overlooking Gorleston beach.
BEST VIEW
The best views can be found from Gorleston's cliff top towards the southern end, providing great vistas of the sandy beach and the gentle rolling waves of the North Sea.
RATED RESTAURANT
Family-run The Shed Tapas on the quay side is a surprise treat and serves an excellent choice of small dish.
Mediterranean tapas including favourites such as chorizo in cider, padron peppers, patatas bravas, garlic prawns plus daily specials.
BEST BAR
The Cliff Hotel's restaurant and bar is the place for beach views and drinks can be enjoyed on the terrace on warmer days.
It's a fabulous spot to while away a few hours over a beer or glass of wine or two. It also serves a great range of cocktails.
HOTEL PICK
Cast and crew for Danny Boyle's Yesterday movie spent a month at The Pier Hotel and the hotel and beach both feature in the film.
A key scene was shot from the balcony overlooking the beach, where 6,000 local people responded to Danny's call for a lively crowd to dance and have fun as the film's star Himesh Patel and a band performed The Beatles' song Help! for them.
The hotel is just a few metres from the beach and has wonderful sea views, 21 bedrooms, an elegant restaurant and spacious bar.

Xbox reveals two brand new consoles to take on the Nintendo Switch 2 and they're launching in time for Christmas
MICROSOFT has finally launched a handheld Xbox console after years of speculation. And it'll be available just in time for Christmas this year in the UK and the US. 2 Rather than being entirely Microsoft -made, the new ROG Xbox Ally devices come as part of a collaboration with ASUS, which has already dabbled in handheld gaming. There are two models, the ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. The latter has a more powerful chip inside, alongside bigger memory, storage, battery and more ports available too. Both will allow players to access their Game Pass subscription library on the go. But you can enjoy content from and other "leading PC storefronts" too. Users can play natively, via the cloud, or remotely with their Xbox console in another room. "Whether you're at home or on the go, your favorite games should follow you," explained Xbox head of gaming devices Roanne Sones. "With Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta) or Remote Play, you can access your full Xbox console library and keep playing—wherever you are." As part of the move, Roblox will be among the launch titles with a version optimised for handheld gaming. But pricing has not been announced just yet. The Sun tries new Nintendo Switch 2 and Mario Kart before it's out The existing ASUS ROG Ally X handheld gaming console costs about £800 / $800. "Only way price is significantly cheaper is if Microsoft subsidize and takes part of the loss," one gamer speculated on Reddit. "The only way this thing retails for under $700 is if Microsoft really, REALLY wants to prove the viability of their new Windows gaming variant," another wrote. It comes just days after Nintendo launched its brand new Switch 2 console. NINTENDO SWITCH 2: FIRST THOUGHTS By Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun I was among the first members of the press to get hands-on with the console before the general public, at a special event in Paris in April. The first thing you will notice is the display is vastly improved. It's not a glossy OLED but does support 1080p and the screen itself is bigger too, measuring in at 7.9 inches wide. The frame rate is 120 fps, meaning popular titles play super smooth compared to the last Switch. Some much-loved previous titles have been upgraded to take in the enhancements and are dubbed "Switch 2 Edition". I got a flavour of the new Mario Kart World game among the hands-on, though I didn't get to try out every mode. There are some fun new mechanics, such as the ability to grind, as well as exciting new items.

Meghan Markle warned 'it's time to move on' after move that will surprise Palace
Meghan Markle has been pressing ahead with her As Ever lifestyle brand while building her Instagram following - but one expert has a stark warning for her Meghan Markle has left the Royal Family firmly behind her as she builds her business empire. Five years after she and Prince Harry dramatically quit as working royals, she is now growing her As Ever lifestyle brand as well as her Instagram following with a string of never-before-seen snaps and videos. But despite the days of royal duties being long gone, Meghan does continue to use one thing from her former life - her royal title, the Duchess of Sussex. Not only that, she recently raised eyebrows when it emerged she had also used her HRH title on a note in a gift basket to a friend. According to royal expert Jennie Bond, Meghan has appeared to become a shrewd operator as she ploughs forward with her business, which will no doubt help to fund the Sussexes' enviable lifestyle. But writing in The Sun, the former BBC royal correspondent says it's now time for her to stop using her royal title in her money-making ventures. She explained: "To try to cling to the vestiges of her blink-of-an-eye time as a working royal is disingenuous. So, Meghan, how about dropping the Duchess nonsense and the HRH which you are no longer entitled to use? Be independent and successful. "Make your As Ever brand bigger than ever on your own. You tried being part of the Royal Family and hated it. Time to move on, which, I think, is what this is all about." It comes as Meghan as made a huge U-turn in a new announcement about restocking her As Ever products, including her jam. In an Instagram post last week, she promised that her goods would be back in stock later this month and teased other new items, saying there would be "a few new things we can't wait to show you". The about-turn came just hours after she was heard telling Beyoncé's mother that she had decided to "just pause" until she was completely ready. Meghan appeared on her own podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, yesterday, recorded in May, telling Tina Knowles she feared annoying customers when the first batch of her jam and herbal teas sold out in less than an hour. She said she wanted to wait until it was "completely stable and we have everything we need". However, just hours later, Meghan shared a photo of jam-making preparations including bowls of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries, and freshly squeezed lemons, on her Instagram stories, writing: "June gloom?' Not over here! Because this month your favourite products are back." Her official As Ever account also posted: "To all who've been wondering and waiting, thank you. Your favourites are returning, plus a few NEW things we can't wait to show you. Coming this month…get excited!" Meghan's range includes flower sprinkles, which she used liberally during her Netflix lifestyle show, and raspberry spread, a crepe mix, wildflower honey and an assortment of herbal teas. She renamed her brand from American Riviera Orchard after running into trademark issues.

Love Island star opens up about romance with glam girlfriend for the first time and reveals he's returned to normal job
He's planning a triple date with two of his co-stars NEW LOVE Love Island star opens up about romance with glam girlfriend for the first time and reveals he's returned to normal job Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HIS failure to find love in the villa last summer proved to be a blessing in disguise. Just seven months after being dumped from the ITV show on day 10, Munveer Jabbal announced he was in a relationship with his stunning girlfriend Maddie. "I did go on a few dates post Love Island," said Munveer. "I quickly realised that these aren't the type of girls that I want to be with long term. I eventually met my current girlfriend. "I found a lot of good qualities. We shared the same values and morals and that kind of stuff. Comes from good stock, good family. It just felt right. "Even though I wasn't expecting to jump into something, that connection felt genuine when I compare it to the other initial dates that I went on." Like many modern day love stories, Munveer and Maddie got to know each other through Instagram. She sent him a request and Munveer wasted no time sliding into her DMs. Sparks quickly flew but both parties approached the hard launch with caution. It wasn't until December that the private pair went Instagram official, and the joint posts since have been few and far between. Slowing things down went against Munveer's natural instincts. He admits: "To be honest with you, I fall in love so quickly. Axed Love Island star Munveer vents 'frustration' after being sent home amid claims he was 'edited out' by producers "I've always been like that. When I'm set on someone, I'm like 100 miles per hour. I think that's my kryptonite, my downfall." Unlike many villa romances, Munveer and Maddie aren't rushing to move in together even though they already spend plenty of time with one another. "We definitely talk about those things," says Munveer. "It's probably a bit too soon. There's been where she comes and doesn't leave for two or three weeks. The flat is literally upside down, which is always fun. "But I think long-term, you look at your potential partner and you want those things. To be able to live together, buy a house together, all the rest of it. I wouldn't go into something lightly without knowing these things." Before the pair settle down, there's triple dates to be had with Munveer's villa pals Sam Tyalor and Hugo Godfroy, both of whom are in relationships. 5 Munveer lasted 10 days in the villa last summer Credit: Rex 5 He was found himself in a friend couple with Patsy Field Credit: Rex "I was talking on WhatsApp and we're going to plan a little triple date in London at some point, which would be nice," says Munveer. "And then Sam's getting ahead of himself saying, 'yeah, let's book a holiday and do this, do that'. "Let's get the girls connected over a dinner and then we can start thinking about that kind of stuff. They're both taken and, from what I know, really happy." He then joked: "I think Hugo's a little bit under the thumb. He's gone a bit quiet. He was really active on the WhatsApp group. As soon as he gets his missus, he's just gone non-existent. Which is fair enough, he's in the honeymoon period. But both the boys are doing really well and they look like they're loved up." In a series that was dominated by Joey Essex's surprise arrival, Munveer's screen time was limited. He doesn't hold a grudge against the former Towie star though, acknowledging it was out of his control. He simply accepts that there wasn't a girl there for him during his short time in Majorca. "They show you what you want to see and they create this narrative," he says. "But it's really hard to just wake up and fancy someone. Believe it or not, I don't care what you say, everyone has a type. "You can't force that. Yes, you're on reality TV. Yes, you're on Love Island but sometimes it just doesn't feel that genuine, and I was never going to break character or just do things for the sake of it. "That's why I was super upfront with Patsy [Field]. I felt like me and Patsy connected really well on a friend level. It could have gone somewhere deeper in terms of connection, personality and that type of stuff. "But I just knew a part of me, there was something missing. I think that wasn't really shown because who wants to see that?" Not long after the show, Munveer returned to his work in recruitment, specifically the tech sector, which he now has a decade of experience in. But having had a taste of the Love Island life, he's craving more time in the public eye. "I've had a taste for it now and I feel like where I had it just taken away from me ever so quickly," he says. "I feel like I've got so much more to offer. I loved it. So if there's more opportunities out there, like your Made In Chelsea, The Traitors or wherever it is, I'm definitely up for it." 5 The couple aren't rushing into moving in together Credit: instagram/@munveerj
