Jazz Winnipeg has also been offering live performances throughout the summer and continuing into fall, outside in the Exchange District and inside the West End Cultural Centre, with public health guidelines in place.
The Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra (WJO) postponed its Sunday concert because of health risks posed by smoke in the air.
In a media release issued Sunday, the orchestra said the July 20 performance has been postponed.
'Due to the health risks of smoke, the concert on Sunday, July 20 has been postponed. More information will be available soon,' the release said.
'WJO woodwind specialist and composer Sean Irvine will present Kind Neighbours at a later date — please wait for further information,' it added.
The concert, part of WJO's summer series, was scheduled for 7 p.m. Sunday and was set to feature music by artists including Joni Mitchell, Lisa Hannigan and Adele, performed by vocalist Karly Epp.

‘Tremendous blow': Winnipeg music fans mourn Ozzy Osbourne

(AP Photo/Alastair Grant) Music fans around the world, including in Winnipeg, are in mourning following the death of Ozzy Osbourne on Tuesday. Osbourne, one of the founding members of Black Sabbath and a successful solo artist who helped popularize heavy metal music, died Tuesday at the age of 76, weeks after his final concert. Osbourne had been dealing with health problems, including Parkinson's disease and emphysema, in recent years. David MacLean has been a fan of Osbourne since he was a teenager and was saddened to learn of his death. 'It was just a tremendous blow, and I'm still feeling kind of down about it, to tell you the truth,' he said. Mike Holmes also got into Osbourne as a teenager through his father, who was a fan of Black Sabbath. 'I think it was mainly because I was really into Metallica, and I know he was a big influence on them, and then also just because of how popular he was and well-known he was through his reality show,' he said. MacLean managed to get tickets for Osbourne's 2003 performance at the Winnipeg Arena. However, the morning of the show, his mother died from cancer. And I swear to God, 'Mama, I'm Coming Home' hit a little differently than it usually does, you know. And it was incredible.' Osbourne would typically end his concerts by telling the audience he loved them before walking off the stage, a moment that hit harder for MacLean. 'He had no idea that there was a 14-year-old kid who had lost his mom, and he was saving his life that night. But that's the essence of rock and roll.' Holmes saw Osbourne and Black Sabbath several times when they rolled through Winnipeg and said he put on a great show. He recalled one concert in 2010 that stayed with him. 'He had a big fire hose up on stage, and during the solo of 'Crazy Train,' he picked it up and started blasting everybody in the first couple rows with foam and throwing buckets of water at them,' he said. 'I was just always blown away by how much energy he could bring to a show, even though, from outward appearances, sometimes he didn't look like he had the most energy in the world.' Osbourne's death comes as other influential musicians from the 1960s and 1970s, most recently Connie Francis and Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys, have passed away in recent years. 'The rock stars and the idols and the icons have really been dying off, and no one has really been stepping into their place,' MacLean said. 'That's kind of a scary thing, being a musician myself. Who is going to take the reins?' Ozzy Osbourne in Winnipeg The earliest known instance of Osbourne playing in Winnipeg was when Black Sabbath played Winnipeg in 1971 at the Centennial Concert Hall. Osbourne first played Winnipeg as a solo artist in 1981 and played in the city several times through the years, both as a solo artist and with Black Sabbath. His last appearance in Winnipeg was in 2016 with Black Sabbath on their reunion tour.

Winnipeg musician partners with Fender for Signature guitar

A Winnipeg musician now has a custom Fender guitar that he can truly call his own. Ariel Posen, who has performed with the Bros. Landreth and as a solo artist, recently partnered with Fender to launch a Custom Shop Limited Edition Stratocaster. 'It's the greatest thing; it's the full circle,' Posen told CTV News during a recent interview. 'It's like the culmination of it all, like you're designing something first and foremost. At least 98 per cent of the reason why I would do something like this is to have an instrument that I can fully depend on and identify as my own thing. And when you finally get it, when you finally have it finished, and you're playing it, if you're not happy with it, then you probably didn't do it right.' Ariel Posen Singer-songwriter Ariel Posen is seen playing his Signature Limited Edition Fender Stratocaster in a photo posted on July 15, 2025. (Facebook: Ariel Posen) (Ryan Piorkowski) Posen has had a relationship with Fender for multiple years, but the process to designing his own guitar started two-and-a-half years ago. 'I had been experimenting with a couple things; I'm always just having ideas and trying stuff out,' he said. 'And I just happened to discuss the idea for something that I was just wanting to put together on my own, and they just suggested, 'Why don't we do a Signature guitar?'' From there, Posen started collaborating with Fender, workshopping ideas for the guitar on how it should look and sound and trying it out until they were fully satisfied. 'The process was very organic. It was basically, 'How do we build you something that's truly and authentically you?'' he said. 'And I based it off of a couple models that I have and a couple things that I'm used to using and having that I feel genuinely identify as me.' (Facebook: Ariel Posen) The guitar includes a pair of AP-90 pickups, which are among Posen's favourite elements. 'Those pickups don't exist in any other guitars,' he said. 'Their voiced to how I sound, and how I like guitars to sound.' Returning to Winnipeg in December Posen will be getting lots of practice with his new guitar this fall and winter. He will embark on the Future Present Tense tour throughout North America starting in October. The tour will end with a show in his hometown on Dec. 12 at The Park Theatre. 'Winnipeg is always home, and whether or not it's filled with familiar faces or even people, there's this energy of being at home,' Posen said. 'There's something special about this place. I'm just grateful to get to do this in general, but to get to do it at home, being a guy that grew up cutting his teeth often times playing gigs to nobody at Dylan O'Connor's on Portage or somewhere when I was like 18 or 19, it doesn't grow old to come back once a year or once every two years to do a real show.' Tickets for the Winnipeg show go on sale Friday.
