Trump is attending the FIFA Club World Cup final
Trump and first lady Melania Trump will travel from their golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, to East Rutherford 40 miles (64 kilometers) away to watch the final match of the U.S.-hosted tournament between Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea at MetLife Stadium.
Trump's trip Sunday falls on the first anniversary of the assassination attempt he survived in Butler, Pennsylvania, while campaigning for president.
The president did not have any public plans to mark the date beyond participating in a taped Fox News Channel interview with his daughter-in-law Lara Trump that aired Saturday night.
Sporting events have made up the bulk of Trump's trips in the U.S. since taking office this year. In addition to his visit this weekend to the soccer tournament, he's attended the Super Bowl in New Orleans, the Daytona 500 in Florida, UFC fights in Miami and Newark, New Jersey, and the NCAA wrestling championships in Philadelphia.
The president, who has a warm relationship with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, has said he plans to attend multiple matches of the World Cup tournament next year.

Gotterup wins Scottish Open for spot at Portrush. Grace Kim takes major Evian Championship
NORTH BERWICK, Scotland (AP) — Chris Gotterup came up with the clutch shots on the biggest stage he has faced Sunday, taking down crowd favorite Rory McIlroy with a 4-under 66 in a two-shot victory in the Scottish Open that gives him another week of links golf. LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) — Grace Kim delivered one stunning shot after another in the Evian Championship, starting with an eagle to force a playoff and another eagle to beat Jeeno Thitikul on the second extra hole to make her first LPGA Tour win a major title. Kim, whose 2-foot eagle putt on the par-5 18th in regulation gave her a 4-under 67, looked to be just as surprised as everyone else when she rolled in a 12-foot eagle putt to win the playoff. The 24-year-old Australian calmly placed her hand over her mouth and stood still before doubling over and breaking into a smile. On 18 in regulation, Kim blasted a fairway metal onto the green. LIV Golf League SAN ROQUE, Spain (AP) – American Talor Gooch won LIV Golf Andalucía for his second LIV Golf title in three visits to Valderrama and fourth overall on the Saudi-funded tour. Gooch closed with a 1-under 70 to finish at 8 under, a stroke ahead of Spanish star Jon Rahm (65). Rahm led Legion XIII to its third team title of the season. (AP) — William Mouw rallied to win the ISCO Championship for his first PGA Tour title, shooting a 9-under 61 and waiting nearly two hours to see if his 10-under 270 total would hold up. (AP) — Former NHL player Joe Pavelski won the American Century Championship on Sunday at Edgewood Tahoe, closing with an eagle to beat former pitcher John Smoltz by nine points in a wire-to-wire victory in the celebrity event. Pavelski had a 29-point round under the modified Stableford scoring system to finish with 73. He was second last year behind former tennis player Mardy Fish. 'I don't know what to say, actually,' said Pavelski, who turned 41 on Friday. 'But just an amazing week. This place is incredible. It means the world to me.' Pavelski earned $150,000 from the $750,000 purse. Smoltz had a 28-point round. 'I was trying to put heat on anybody, the top three,' Smoltz said. EU plans to engage more with other nations hit by US tariffs
(Bloomberg) — The EU is preparing to step up its engagement with other countries hit by Donald Trump's tariffs following a slew of new threats to the bloc and other US trading partners, according to people familiar with the matter. Article content Earlier in the day, European Commission chief Ursula von der Leyen said the bloc will extend the suspension of trade countermeasures against the US until Aug. 1 to allow for further talks. The measures had been adopted in response to tariffs imposed earlier by Trump on steel and aluminum before being paused a first time, and were due to snap back into place at midnight on Tuesday. Article content 'At the same time, we will continue to prepare further countermeasures so we are fully prepared,' von der Leyen told reporters in Brussels on Sunday, while reiterating the EU's preference for a 'negotiated solution.' Article content The current list of countermeasures would hit about €21 billion ($24.5 billion) of US goods, while the EU has another one ready of about €72 billion, as well as some export controls, that will be presented to member states as early as Monday, said the people. The EU has also been arguing for lower rates on spirits and wines, as well as mitigating through quotas the 50% tariffs that Trump has imposed on steel and aluminum. The US has proposed a 17% tariff on agricultural products. Any initial agreement would also cover non-tariff barriers, economic security cooperation and strategic purchases. Article content In addition to a universal levy now due in August, Trump has also introduced 25% levies on cars and parts, as well as double that on metals. The president is working to introduce sectoral levies in other areas, including pharmaceuticals and semiconductors, and recently announced a 50% duty on copper.
