Tamzin Outhwaite reveals her child is transgender as she admits 'embarrassing' first reply

Daily Mirror7 days ago
Tamzin Outhwaite has two children, Flo, 17, and Marnie, 12, with fellow actor Tom Ellis who she divorced in 2014.
Tamzin Outhwaite has revealed for the first time that her eldest child is transgender.

The Eastenders star admitted she was 'distressed' when Flo first came out seven years ago, but now finds it easy to say she has a son and a daughter rather than two daughters.

Tamzin, 54, said she wishes she could go back and change her first reaction to the news. The actress said she found things 'very distressing' and she and Flo both went to family therapy to help work through it.

She said: "The way I reacted at the very beginning I would love to change because I think until you're going through it yourself with your child it's very difficult to judge other people or to judge a situation because you don't expect that to happen to you or your child.
"What I did initially, I was like 'don't be ridiculous', I didn't say don't be ridiculous but my mind went to 'that's ludicrous' and working back from that to talking through it"

Outhwaite has two children, Flo, 17, and Marnie, 12, with fellow actor Tom Ellis who she divorced in 2014.
Speaking on the Parenting Hell podcast, the 54 year old said: "I've got two kids and I did have two daughters and now I have a son and a daughter and that's quite easy for me to to say now but it wasn't maybe six or seven years ago.
"We live in a very happy household now, full of jokes, and it's my favourite place to be at home.

"You know they say that as a mum, probably as a parent, that you're only ever as happy and your unhappiest child and so with that in mind we have had some pretty unhappy years.
"Now we're in a really wonderful place as a family, Flo is in a wonderful place as a brilliant actor, singer, writer, director in his sixth form at school, and Marnie is thriving.
"So instead of just trying to get through difficult times we are now all thriving and the relief and joy is very tangible."

She continued: "It was about when Flo was about 10 or 11 and the maddest thing is, I suppose, is that it's not the most interesting thing about him.
"He's an incredible, incredibly funny, intelligent boy and I'm watching him grow into a wonderful human who's very talented and to see him thriving is just nothing but relief and joy for me really because there was some dark times."
"Fab bit of family therapy, therapy on Flo's side so Flo was doing therapy as well. Speaking to other people and realising you weren't alone was a really, really helpful thing...

"I became almost like a padded cell around Flo, almost going 'it's okay whatever you want, you want to do this, you want to do that, it's all okay', because I think if you push back on a kid they're going to want to do the opposite of what their parent says so I made everything a possibility.
"I didn't say you can't be that but it was a very distressing time."

Tamzin also added that whilst her six year old understood the change very quickly she feared the 'wrath' of her father who is now on board.
"Marnie has been the most insightful about all of it because it's constantly, from pretty much day one when Marnie was six years old has said 'this is my brother Flo'.
"Flo has many nicknames at school, all sorts of different things, all of the kids are so accepting of everything but I think they're much more understanding.
"Whereas obviously there was a time, my dad's brilliant now and on board, but there was a time where I didn't want Flo to have the wrath of what my dad had to say about the whole thing."

Charity hides a secret from Sarah in Emmerdale as devastating scenes lie ahead

Sarah Sugden's (Katie Hill) journey to parenthood has been a complete roller coaster in Emmerdale, and it's about to hit a sharp downwards turn. After Sarah underwent an emergency hysterectomy it looked like her dreams of becoming a mum were dashed, but Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) came forward with the idea they find a surrogate. That too went south when they learned Sarah's illness meant an agency wouldn't touch her with a barge pole, so Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) magnanimously stepped up to the plate, but without husband Mack's (Lawrence Robb) approval. After some deep discussions and the threat of an ending marriage, Charity and Mack worked things out and the surrogacy plans could continue, and Sarah and Jacob (Joe-Warren Plant) got engaged. After Charity passed all the tests, the doctors were able to implant the embryos, and now it's full steam ahead for the baby plans. With everything so blissfully on track, Mack and Charity go for a lovely walk. Disaster strikes when Charity slips and falls, kicking off a huge chain of events. Firstly, she must manage her own anxiety that it might have affected the implantation. She's terrified that a stupid action could put paid to Sarah's dream. More Trending Back at Jacob's, a nervous charity is trying to convince herself she's fine and in doing so decides that when Sarah arrives home she simply won't tell her what happened, a tactic that has worked so well for Charity in the past. Coronation Street fan-favourite falls and bangs his head in devastating scenes

Aadi Alahan (Adam Hussain) reaches his lowest ebb in upcoming Coronation Street episodes as his previous mistakes catch up with him – and he ends up with a nasty injury. Left responsible for the corner shop in Dev (Jimmi Harkishin)'s absence, Aadi was keen to show that he has inherited his father's flair for business. Sadly, for everyone concerned, he really hasn't. He ended up getting the business into so much debt he was forced to enlist Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) to stage a robbery as part of an insurance scam to try to pay the debts off – only to find the insurance wouldn't pay up because he'd missed a payment. Added to these woes, in an attempt to kick back from the world of business and have some fun, Aadi threw a party – but that went horribly wrong, too. Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) ended up accidentally taking some LSD and wandered off into the night, being tortured by terrifying hallucinations of Joel Deering (Calum Lill), the man who previously abused her. She ended up falling and badly injuring herself. Aadi and Lauren have started a sweet relationship together since then, but this is bound to be less sweet when she finds out the person who spiked her at the party was Aadi – even though it wasn't deliberate. Luckily on the business front at least, Aadi's about-to-be step-mum Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) came up with a plan to help him out financially by creaming off some of her and Dev's wedding fund. In upcoming episodes the wedding day arrives, but as the ceremony is about to begin, Bernie's health takes a turn and she collapses, struggling to breathe. As she's rushed off to hospital and Dev summons everyone to her side, it's clear that this is serious. For Aadi, his world has come crashing down. Fearing that he's partly to blame for Bernie's collapse he knows that without her in his corner it's only a matter of time before Dev finds out that he made a mess of the business. More Trending Feeling incredibly guilty about that and about hiding the truth about the party from Lauren, Aadi resorts to getting drunk in Victoria Gardens, ignoring Lauren's attempts to call him. Eventually he decides it's time to confess everything to Lauren. He also tells Bernie and Dev what happened, and they're horrified. With his dad's reaction ringing in his ears, Aadi heads out again and Theo (James Cartwright) and Gary (Mikey North) later find him in a drunken state leaning against Gary's van. As Theo tries to gently steer him away, Aadi falls and bangs his head. View More » With Adam Hussain set to leave the show, could this blow to the head be a fatal one for Aadi? There's trouble brewing in Albert Square as Joel Marshall's (Max Murray) dark side begins to surface, sending shockwaves through Walford. What started as an attempt to steer him in the right direction quickly unravels into lies, lashing out, and a disturbing discovery that could threaten the family's relationships. Following Vicki's suggestion, Ross brings Joel and Tommy along to the timber yard, hoping some structure and hard work might help the boys. But Ross quickly grows concerned when he overhears worrying language from other workers that could influence the boys. Then, Ross gets an unexpected call with the news that Joel's mum is getting remarried. Ross breaks the news to Joel, who doesn't take it well. Later, he sneaks off to The Vic with Tommy, and the pair are caught red-handed stealing alcohol from the barrel store. When Ross, Vicki, Kat, and Alfie confront them, the situation explodes. Joel lashes out with cruel, offensive language aimed at Kat, leaving everyone stunned. As Ross and Vicki try to rein him in, a brief moment of bonding gives them hope as Joel shares a video from an online influencer he admires. But Ross's relief is short-lived when he finds disturbing content on Joel's laptop. In a moment of panic, he destroys the device, cutting Joel off entirely. Ross shuts Joel out of work, and Vicki, now in the loop, urges him to take control before things get any worse. A heartfelt conversation with Harvey in the café prompts Ross to reflect.
