If Atlanta Braves manager Brian Snitker wants to finish out a disappointing season, it certainly sounds like he'll make it to Game 162.

As for 2026? Braves fans should expect to still see Snitker around Truist Park, albeit not in uniform.
USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported on Sunday that Snitker's 'job appears to be safe for the remainder of the season' despite the Braves' 27-37 record. Atlanta has lost seven straight and entered Monday a shocking 14 games behind the New York Mets in the NL East.
'Snitker's contract expires after this year when he's expected to retire as manager and then move into a special assistant role,' Nightengale wrote.

The Braves are 9 1/2 games out of the NL's third Wild Card spot, only two games better than the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates.

Nightengale did not name a potential successor for Snitker, who turns 70 in October. Bench coach Walt Weiss and third base coach Fredi González each have managerial experience, with González going 434-413 with the Braves from 2011-16.
Elsewhere, Nightengale suggested former Miami Marlins manager Skip Schumaker is the favorite to replace Texas Rangers skipper Bruce Bochy if the four-time World Series champion retires.
Other potential managerial candidates include Chicago Cubs bench coach Ryan Flaherty and ex-Baltimore Orioles skipper Brandon Hyde; Flaherty was recently linked to the Orioles' job.

Detroit Tigers are No. 1 in most MLB power rankings
More than one-third of the way into the MLB season, the Detroit Tigers have the best record in baseball at 43-24. They also solidified their status as a top-tier contender after taking two of three games against the National League Central-leading Chicago Cubs over the past weekend. The Tigers also sold out all three of their home games against the Cubs, the first time this season they have sold out every game of a home series. Advertisement Spirits are high for Tigers fans, and now the national media is starting to recognize Detroit as MLB's premier team. This week's power ranking roundup shows a clean sweep of the Tigers in the top position—with the exception of one outlet (we'll get to them in a second). Here is a roundup of power rankings from MLB analysts and where they place the Tigers: USA TODAY listed the Tigers as the No. 2 team in baseball in last week's power rankings, behind only the Los Angeles Dodgers. But with more Dodgers pitchers landing on the injured list and the team going 5-5 in their last 10 games, they cede the No. 1 spot this week to Detroit. has the Tigers as their No. 1 team for the second week in a row, with Will Leitch highlighting the team's expanding lead in the American League Central: Advertisement "A whole bunch of teams in the AL Central have been losing enough games lately that the Tigers may well put this division away here in the next couple of weeks. They are now all the way up to a seven-game lead, which is actually already more games than the Guardians won this division by last year." SEIDEL: World Series preview? Who cares. Detroit Tigers matched electric crowd and met moment CBS' Matt Snyder has the Tigers ranked as the No. 1 team in baseball for the second week in a row, giving praise to the team's ace (and Cy Young favorite): "Tarik Skubal in 83⅓ innings has 105 strikeouts and seven walks. That is just absolutely stupid." Here's the one holdout, with Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter listing the New York Mets over the Tigers in his most recent power ranking. Advertisement Much like Snyder, Reuter also praises Skubal and another key member of the team's pitching staff: "Tarik Skubal (7.2 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 6 K) and Jack Flaherty (6.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 9 K) pitched the Tigers to a series victory over the Cubs with a pair of terrific starts, and that could be a glimpse into what awaits in October if they maintain their fantastic start." Even before the Tigers took two of three games against the Cubs (as ESPN's power rankings were published on Thursday, June 5) the Tigers were listed as the No. 1 team in baseball. And even before Flaherty's strong start against the Cubs, ESPN was singing his praises: Advertisement "After serving up four home runs to the Rangers on May 10 and seeing his ERA rise to 4.61, Jack Flaherty has reeled off a 2.22 ERA over his past four starts. He is looking much more like the pitcher the Tigers had in the first half of 2024 before they traded him to the Dodgers then re-signed him as a free agent over the winter." U.S. Open Is Going Viral for the Wrong Reasons on Monday
U.S. Open Is Going Viral for the Wrong Reasons on Monday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The 2025 U.S. Open is here, and while fans are eager for another thrilling major, all eyes are on the wrong thing, Oakmont's rough. With golf's toughest test teeing off this Thursday, the drama has already begun, not on the leaderboard, but in the grass. Literally. Advertisement Oakmont Country Club, known for its brutal layout, is under fire for the insanely thick rough that's already causing chaos during practice rounds. Dubbed 'Soakmont' online due to recent rain, the course is drenched and growing into a nightmare. Players say it's nearly impossible to escape if you miss the fairway. Videos are going viral, showing just how unforgiving the rough is. Scottie Scheffler, left, shakes hands with Ben Griffin on the 18th green after the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday golf Doster-Imagn Images PGA Tour pro Ben Griffin, who's having a breakout year with two wins and seven top-10 finishes, gave fans a jaw-dropping preview. In a video posted on social media, he dropped a ball into the rough, and it completely vanished. It's clear that the rough isn't just thick but it's wild. Bryson DeChambeau also chimed in, saying even he was shocked by how hard it was to escape. Advertisement Meanwhile, Korn Ferry Tour player James Nicholas attempted a hack-out with a 60-degree wedge, showing how even short shots are nearly impossible. With this kind of setup, fans and players alike are debating whether Oakmont has gone too far. While the U.S. Open is known for being challenging, many are questioning if this year's test is borderline unfair. Still, it's the third major of the season and if the course behaves, it could be epic. But for now, it's the rough, not the play, making headlines. Why Steelers were so confident Aaron Rodgers would sign in lengthy free agency saga
Aaron Rodgers' relationship with his new Steelers team had been growing behind the scenes for some time. When exploring the offseason dynamic between the ex-Jets quarterback and Pittsburgh brass in a new Sports Illustrated piece published Monday, NFL insider Albert Breer explained how the Steelers never felt Rodgers, 41, would get cold feet before both parties made their one-year pact official Saturday with a $13.65 million deal. 'There weren't regularly scheduled check-ins, but Rodgers would call Tomlin and Smith every now and again, which colors why the Steelers were never really concerned that Rodgers would back out on them,' Breer wrote. 4 Aaron Rodgers made his one-year pact with the Steelers official in June 2025. Corey Sipkin for the NY POST 4 Steelers coach Mike Tomlin (l.) and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith (r.) in May 2025. AP Rodgers, coming off two unremarkable seasons with the Jets, had been targeted by the Steelers for much of the offseason. The four-time league MVP's name was originally floated when Pittsburgh 'went through initial end-of-season evaluations,' according to Breer, with the Steelers looking to move on from Russell Wilson, who started for much of the 10-7 season as Justin Fields served as the backup. Although Pittsburgh hoped to keep Fields, the former Bears first-round pick agreed to a two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets as free agency began. 4 Aaron Rodgers spent the past two seasons with the Jets. Charles Wenzelberg / New York Post As the quarterback dominoes continued to fall, Rodgers remained on the board, even after he visited the Steelers' facility in March. With the 2025 NFL Draft coming into view weeks later, speculation mounted as to whether Pittsburgh would take a quarterback early, a la Shedeur Sanders, or wait it out with Rodgers, who put football decisions on hold with someone close to him battling cancer. The Steelers, namely team president Art Rooney II, expressed in May that the team was willing to wait 'a little while longer' for Rodgers, with the lengthy saga coming to a close last week. 4 The Steelers are coming off a 10-7 season. AP 'Officially official,' the Steelers' Instagram account posted Saturday, sharing a photo of Rodgers wearing a curious band on his left ring finger as he put pen to paper. Rodgers signed days before the Steelers report to mandatory minicamp, which begins Tuesday. The quarterback appeared in 17 games for the Jets last season, throwing 28 touchdowns against 11 interceptions. Rodgers will face his former Jets team in Week 1 when the Steelers visit MetLife Stadium.
