Lucas' family asked Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, a longtime friend of Lucas' father, to be their spokesperson as they mourn a heavy loss. In that role, Suarez said Lucas had a spontaneous rupture of the aorta potentially linked to an undiagnosed genetic condition.
His family also wanted to ensure Lucas' death does not 'discourage other children from participating in youth athletics. They emphasize that they were unaware of the underlying condition and continue to seek answers through further medical review,' the statement read.'
'They are people of deep faith, and they're leaning on that faith—and each other—to get through the unimaginable,' Suarez said.
Earlier this week, Suarez posted condolences to Instagram: 'Lucas was the eldest son of my dear friend Mike, whom I've known for years through our time training together in Coconut Grove. My heart breaks for him and his family.'

Phillies announce lineup vs Seattle Mariners for Monday's game

PHILADELPHIA − Ranger Suarez hopes to give the Phillies' pitching situation a positive jolt when he steps onto the mound to face Seattle at Citizens Bank Park on Aug. 18. First pitch is a 6:45 p.m. The game airs on NBC Sports Philadelphia. The news of Zach Wheeler being sidelined by a blood clot and Aaron Nola's shaky return from the injured list in a loss at Washington on Aug. 17 certainly causes concern. Likewise, Suarez, who is 8-6 with a 3.18 ERA in 18 starts this year, hopes to return to his early-season form. He has a 6.59 ERA and has given up 39 hits and 21 runs in his last five starts. PHILLIES PITCHERS: Projecting the starting rotation as Zack Wheeler deals with blood clot issue The Phillies open a 6-game homestand with three versus Seattle. Washington then visits this weekend. The first-place Phillies (71-53) have a 6-game lead over the New York Mets in the National League East. Seattle (68-57) is also in playoff contention as the second-place Mariners trail Houston by 1 1/2 games in the American League West. ALL-CENTURY PHILLIES: 25 years in, who have been the best? 1 Mariners' player who will make or break 2025 playoff chances

The post 1 Mariners' player who will make or break 2025 playoff chances appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Seattle Mariners made two of the biggest deals of the MLB trade deadline, picking up Eugenio Suarez and Josh Naylor. The corner infielders came from the Arizona Diamondbacks in separate deals. Seattle has been unstoppable in August, but Suarez has struggled. If the Mariners are going to return to the postseason for the second time since 2001, Suarez has to be the elite bat he was in his first stint with the club. The Arizona Diamondbacks struggled to start the season and fell way out of the competitive National League Wild Card race. They traded a lot of their pending free agents at the deadline, including Naylor and Suarez. The Mariners paid up to get both of them, dealing from a highly rated prospect pool to improve two key positions. But Suarez, one of the biggest names dealt across the league, has been terrible since returning to Seattle. In 106 games with the Diamondbacks this season, Suarez hit 36 homers, drove in 87 runs, and posted a .897 OPS. In 11 games with the Mariners, his .098/.136/.195 slash line with one homer and six RBI has fans panicking. Naylor did not have a stretch that poor this season in Arizona. Still, Seattle is 10-1 since the deadline. Seattle has traditionally been a difficult park to hit in, but Suarez spent two seasons with the Mariners before his tenure in Arizona. He should be familiar with T-Mobile Park, but his .331 OPS is not going to help them make the postseason. And when the postseason comes around, Suarez needs to turn it on to help them finally make a run. The Mariners bought in on this season at the MLB trade deadline. They have barely had any success since 2001, winning only the Wild Card series in 2021, and need a jolt. Suarez should be enough on paper, but has not been recently. The Mariners are flying high despite Eugenio Suarez's slump Despite the slump, the Mariners have tied the Houston Astros for first in the AL West. They have not won the division since their historic 2001 campaign, and could unseat Houston in the division. Suarez was brought in before the 2022 season to get Seattle over the hump, and he did exactly that. His 31 homers, 87 RBI, and .791 OPS were massively important to their regular-season success. He had a .981 OPS in five playoff games that season. Naylor has taken over as the engine of the lineup behind Cal Raleigh since the MLB trade deadline. In 16 games with the Mariners, he is hitting .286 with a .908 OPS and 11 RBI. First base was a black hole offensively before the deadline, with a .682 OPS from Rowdy Tellez as the highlight, and Naylor has fixed that. If both ex-Diamondbacks can get rolling at the same time, the Mariners can steal the division. The Mariners' pitching staff has been a key factor in their competitive regular seasons in recent years. Luis Castillo, Dryan Woo, George Kirby, and Logan Gilbert make an elite playoff pitching staff. Their offense has been anemic in previous years, with the second-lowest team batting average in 2024. If the Mariners get great offensive output from Suarez, Nayor, and Cal Raleigh, they can count on their pitching to bring them over the line. Other teams do not have the pitching depth that Seattle has, especially if they land in the three-game Wild Card round. They could lineup a rested Castillo for Game 1, helping cancel out the advantage the division winner has by getting the bye. The Mariners should cruise to a playoff berth and could challenge the Astros for the AL West title. But for them to make a deep run, Suarez and Naylor will have to pick up the offense down the stretch. Mariners make MLB history with bonkers 10-game stretch

The post Mariners make MLB history with bonkers 10-game stretch appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Seattle Mariners are battling for playoff position in the American League, and now they are finally starting to find their stride as the regular season starts to wind down. Seattle has a formidable group of pitchers, and now the batting order is starting to click after the blockbuster addition of Eugenio Suarez at the trade deadline. The Mariners have been especially good at generating runs over their last 10 games, crossing the plate 53 times during that span. In that time, they have crashed 20 home runs and stolen 20 bases without bring caught stolen, making them the first team in MLB history to achieve those three feats in a 10-game span according to OptaStats. That great hitting and quality base running has been resulting in wins for Seattle, which has won eight of its last 10 games including six in a row. The Mariners will be going for their second consecutive sweep on Sunday against the Tampa Bay Rays. In the first two games against the Rays on Friday and Saturday, the stars in the Seattle lineup have really shown up and delivered their best when the Mariners have needed it most. Cal Raleigh won the first game of the series on Friday night with a monster three-run home run in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Seattle a lead. Raleigh crushed another three-run homer on Saturday night, a 7-4 win for Seattle, while star outfielder Julio Rodriguez hit a pair of home runs on his way to a three-RBI night. The Marines have been able to do all of this despite getting next to nothing from Suarez, who was banged up just before the trade and is still settling in with his new team. In eight games with the Mariners after reuniting with Seattle at the deadline, Suarez has just two hits in 30 at-bats with one home run. If the big-hitting third baseman, who still has 37 home runs and 90 RBI on the season, can get going, this Mariners lineup will immediately become even more dangerous. They have closed the gap on the Houston Astros in the AL West and now trail by just a half-game, and with this momentum look poised to vault themselves into the top spot.
