Former Sixers star James Harden ranked top-7 point guard in NBA
James Harden's tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers ended on a sour note. However, there's no denying that during his time with the franchise, he showcased why he was the 2017 MVP. Even at his advancing age, Harden's playmaking, shot creation and shot making were among the best in the NBA. That's why his decision to leave the franchise stung. Since joining the LA Clippers, Harden has thrived in a lead ball-handling role. Last season, he ranked in the top-10 for MVP voting, was an All-Star and got named to an All-NBA Third Team. He did all of that while averaging 22.8 points, 8.7 assists and 5.8 rebounds per game on 50.1 effective field goal percentage. Courtesy of his strong performances, Harden was recently named the seventh-best point guard in the NBA by HoopsHype's Frank Urbina. "The ageless James Harden has done well to transform his game, from being a high-volume scorer to being one of the best playmaking floor generals in the game today," Urbina wrote. "...Blend that in with his elite playmaking and ability to get to the basket and finish, and you have an All-NBA floor general, even at nearly 36 years old. What remains to be seen is how far a Harden-led team can make it in the postseason." Assuming the Clippers can remain healthy, Harden and the Clippers will likely be among the contenders in the Western Conference next season. Even as he nears his 36th birthday, Harden is still an elite talent, and questions likely remain over how things could have turned out if he'd stuck with the Sixers long-term. Fortunately for Sixers fans, the franchise has an exciting young core of guards to cheer for, with Tyrese Maxey, Jared McCain and VJ Edgecombe all expected to impress next season.

Pacers reportedly not on Christmas Day schedule; only 2 teams have gone longer without playing
The Pacers will reportedly not be involved in the NBA's Christmas Day schedule again this year despite their NBA Finals run. Presumably, that marks the first sign of the effect of All-Star point guard Tyrese Haliburton's torn Achilles tendon will have on the Pacers' level of national television exposure in the 2025-26 season. ESPN's Shams Charania posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account Friday that there will be five games played on Dec. 25, all nationally televised on ABC, ESPN. According to Charania, the New York Knicks will host the Cleveland Cavaliers in the only game involving Eastern Conference teams. The Pacers beat the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference semifinals in the 2025 playoffs and then beat the Knicks in the Eastern Conference Finals before losing to the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 7 of the NBA Finals, the game in which Haliburton suffered the injury that will keep him out all of the 2025-26 season. Christmas is considered one of the marquee events of the NBA's regular season calendar. The Pacers haven't been on the Christmas Day schedule since 2004; only Sacramento and Charlotte have gone longer without playing on Dec. 25. Re-live the Pacers unbelievable run to the NBA Finals in IndyStar's commemorative book The NBA champion Thunder will play on Christmas Day, hosting the San Antonio Spurs, who didn't make last year's playoffs but have the draw of sensational center Victor Wembanyama. In the other three games between Western Conference teams, the Houston Rockets will play the Lakers in Los Angeles, the Golden State Warriors will host the Dallas Mavericks and the Minnesota Timberwolves will play the Nuggets in Denver. Involving those teams assures some of the league's biggest stars will be involved, including Houston's Kevin Durant, Los Angeles' LeBron James and Luka Doncic, Golden State's Stephen Curry, Minnesota's Anthony Edwards, Denver's Nikola Jokic and Dallas' Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 pick in the 2025 draft. Charania also reported that the Pacers will not be part of the opening night schedule on NBC on Oct. 21. The Rockets will play the Thunder in Oklahoma City and the Warriors will play the Lakers in Los Angeles. In early prognostications, the Cavaliers and Knicks have been considered the favorites to win the Eastern Conference in 2025-26. The Pacers, who also reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2024 were expected to be favorites to repeat as Eastern Conference champs before Haliburton's injury and the departure of center Myles Turner to the Milwaukee Bucks in free agency. Prognostications so far have them slated to be a play-in team or worse.

Damian Lillard's agent rips Bucks after messy exit
Damian Lillard's agent, Aaron Goodwin, has made headlines again. In response to the Bucks' surprising decision to waive Lillard in July 2025, Goodwin blamed the team's system for Lillard's underwhelming tenure in Milwaukee, which resulted in two straight first-round exits to the Pacers. Advertisement 'He never really had an opportunity to play as he has played the first 12 years of his career,' Goodwin said to ESPN's Jamal Collier. 'He played to win in the system that he was in.' Lillard was traded to the Bucks ahead of the 2023-24 season after a career year in Portland and an overall sensational tenure in Portland. The nine-time All-Star saw his scoring drop from 32.2 points per game to a combined 24.6 points per contest in Milwaukee. He ruptured his Achilles during the Bucks first-round loss to the Pacers, which will likely sideline him for the upcoming 2025-26 season. Lillard later decided to return to Portland, signing a three-year deal worth over $40 million. Getty Images While many were taken aback by the move, Goodwin framed it in a more positive light, highlighting it as an 'incredible opportunity' for the star guard. The Bucks made the decision to release Lillard after signing ex-Pacers center Myles Turner to a surprising four-year deal worth roughly $109 million. Advertisement The Bucks got rid of Lillard's deal using the waive and stretch provision in order to create room for Turner. Lillard will still receive his guaranteed $113 million, which includes all the money owed for the remainder of his initial Bucks contract, but instead of receiving it over two years, he'll get it over the next five. He'll then receive his new Trail Blazers money on top of that.
