Liquid Mike Announce New Album Hell Is an Airport, Share 'Groucho Marx' and 'Selling Swords': Stream

Michigan rockers Liquid Mike have announced their new album, Hell Is an Airport. The sixth studio effort is out in full on September 12th, but you can hear the lead singles, 'Groucho Marx' and 'Selling Swords,' below.
Vocalist and guitarist Mike Maple revealed that the album's title originated from the idea of airports as liminal spaces. 'Airports are these weird, intermediary spaces that have always made me feel like I'm stuck in limbo. This album deals a lot with themes surrounding feeling stuck and unable to crawl out,' he said in a press statement. 'Airports are stressful and congested and bureaucratic and never sleep; I imagine hell operates very much like an airport.'
In a couple of days, Liquid Mike are kicking off their tour of North America. The first seven-date leg is alongside band Drug Church, and starts on May 17th in Ottawa. The second leg is in support of Descendents, with their first performance on July 29th in Charleston. They'll play concerts along the East Coast with the final show set for August 9th in New Haven. See the full schedule below, and get tickets here.
Liquid Mike's latest album, Paul Bunyan's Slingshot, was released last February.

Questlove Pays Tribute to Sly Stone: 'Changes He Sparked While Here Will Echo Forever'
The post Questlove Pays Tribute to Sly Stone: 'Changes He Sparked While Here Will Echo Forever' appeared first on Consequence. Questlove has paid tribute to late funk pioneer Sly Stone. In an Instagram post, The Roots drummer and music historian reflected on the musician's legacy and vast accomplishments, while also sharing his personal experience working on the original documentary Sly Lives! (aka the Burden of Black Genius). 'Sly Stone, born Sylvester Stewart, left this earth today, but the changes he sparked while here will echo forever. From the moment his music reached me in the early 1970s, it became a part of my soul,' Questlove wrote. 'Sly was a giant — not just for his groundbreaking work with the Family Stone, but for the radical inclusivity and deep human truths he poured into every note. His songs weren't just about fighting injustice; they were about transforming the self to transform the world. He dared to be simple in the most complex ways — using childlike joy, wordless cries, and nursery rhyme cadences to express adult truths. His work looked straight at the brightest and darkest parts of life and demanded we do the same.' Questlove continued by acknowledging Stone's addiction battle and disappearance from the spotlight before stating that the artist 'lived long enough to outlast many of his disciples, to feel the ripples of his genius return through hip-hop samples, documentaries, and his memoir.' 'Still, none of that replaces the raw beauty of his original work,' Questlove added. 'As I reflect on his legacy, two lines haunt me: 'We deserve everything we get in this life' — a line from the Sly Lives! documentary that feels like both a warning and a manifestation — and, of course, the eternal cry of 'Everyday People': 'We got to live together!' Once idealistic, now I hear it as a command. Sly's music will likely speak to us even more now than it did then. Thank you, Sly. You will forever live.' Stone's death at the age of 82 was announced by his family earlier today, June 9th. It followed 'a prolonged battle' with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and 'other underlying health issues.' Sydney Sweeney Put On More Than 30 Pounds for Christy Martin Biopic
The post Sydney Sweeney Put On More Than 30 Pounds for Christy Martin Biopic appeared first on Consequence. For her role as pioneering female boxer Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic, Sydney Sweeney went full Christian Bale, quickly and radically transforming her body to best fit the part. 'I came onboard to play Christy, and I had about three and a half months of training,' Sweeney told W Magazine in a new cover story. 'I started eating. I weight-trained in the morning for an hour, kickboxed midday for about two hours, and then weight-trained again at night for an hour.' 'My body was completely different,' she continued. 'I didn't fit in any of my clothes. I'm usually a size 23 in jeans, and I was wearing a size 27. My boobs got bigger. And my butt got huge. It was crazy! I was like, 'Oh my god' … But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.' According to W, Sweeney then dropped the weight in just seven weeks to reprise her role as Cassie in the new season of the hit HBO series Euphoria. A proper title and release date for the David Michôd-directed biopic have yet to be announced. Sweeney is also recently made headlines thanks to her unique, we'll call it, collaboration with Dr. Squatch soap.
