Liquid Mike Announce New Album Hell Is an Airport, Share 'Groucho Marx' and 'Selling Swords': Stream
Michigan rockers Liquid Mike have announced their new album, Hell Is an Airport. The sixth studio effort is out in full on September 12th, but you can hear the lead singles, 'Groucho Marx' and 'Selling Swords,' below.
Vocalist and guitarist Mike Maple revealed that the album's title originated from the idea of airports as liminal spaces. 'Airports are these weird, intermediary spaces that have always made me feel like I'm stuck in limbo. This album deals a lot with themes surrounding feeling stuck and unable to crawl out,' he said in a press statement. 'Airports are stressful and congested and bureaucratic and never sleep; I imagine hell operates very much like an airport.'
In a couple of days, Liquid Mike are kicking off their tour of North America. The first seven-date leg is alongside band Drug Church, and starts on May 17th in Ottawa. The second leg is in support of Descendents, with their first performance on July 29th in Charleston. They'll play concerts along the East Coast with the final show set for August 9th in New Haven. Rock Icon, 52, Reveals He Spent 'Seven Months In Bed' After Emergency Surgery originally appeared on Parade. Queens of the Stone Age made the difficult decision in August 2024 to cancel their remaining tour dates so that frontman Josh Homme could 'prioritize his health' and 'receive essential medical care.' No more information was given at the time, but it seems that Homme's medical issues were more serious than anyone imagined. In a new interview with Consequence, Homme, 52, explained that he was in immense pain right before filming Alive in the Catacombs in July 2024. Playing in the famed Catacombs of Paris was a 20-year dream for Homme. At that moment, he could have either abandoned the project to seek medical treatment or played through the pain. He chose the latter. "I was in a very difficult physical spot, and I'm really thankful that I was, actually," he said. "I couldn't think about anything else but where we were. It's better that I was unwell, because I think if I was well, we would've maybe been more 'California' about it and thought 'Man, it's so cool to be here...' And something about that kind of sucks." It's good that Homme's pain made him focus and appreciate on the historic nature of this performance, because it would be his last one for a while. "I performed in the Catacombs, and within about 20 hours, I was being sedated and put under," he told Consequence. Homme, who was diagnosed with cancer in 2022 (and declared cancer free a year later) returned to the states to undergo emergency surgery. He then 'spent the next seven months in bed,' said Homme. 'I had a lot of time to think, you know? I was told I was gonna spend 18 months, two years there, so I was not excited,' he added. (Consequence said Josh was being intentionally vague about the nature of his illness for privacy's sake). By December 2024, Homme's doctors told him everything was going to be okay, which just made him want to get out of bed even more. "I felt like a rodeo bull leaning on the gate,' he said. 'It's like, when you open this [explicative] gate, I'm gonna run. I'm gonna run." Homme said that new QOSTA music is on the way. Sharon Osbourne has revealed that she booted a band off the lineup of the upcoming 'Back to the Beginning' concert featuring the final performances of Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne. The wife and manager of Ozzy told Metal Hammer that an argument with the undisclosed act's manager led to her decision to disinvite the band from playing the historic all-day concert event being held July 5th at Villa Park in Birmingham, England. 'I had a huge, huge to-do with a manager over this celebration for Ozzy and Sabbath,' revealed Sharon. 'And it was probably the worst way I've felt in years. And I don't care what this person says about me, thinks about it, because he doesn't know me. And he's now going around making up bullshit lies because I threw his band off the bill.' She continued, 'I don't care what people say. Because do you know what? I don't love them. I care about people who love me, what they say about me. You can't care what an industry says, because you don't love them, so how can it hurt you? It doesn't.' When asked by Metal Hammer if it was Iron Maiden — as Sharon famously feuded with singer Bruce Dickinson on the 2005 edition of Ozzfest — she replied, 'Oh god, no. Ozzy only has respect for the guys in Maiden. And he didn't even know what Bruce was doing [during Ozzfest].
