Boxer Lennon Mulligan praised after landing Commonwealth Silver title
Boxing promoter Francis Gilluley reckons he has a real prospect on his hands after Lennon Mulligan won the Commonwealth Silver bantamweight title in Glasgow last month.
Mulligan beat Coventry's Callum Singh in a sixth-round stoppage to take the title at the Doubletree by Hilton at the end of June.
The Glasgwegian attacked his English opponent with a flurry of punches and a vicious first-round knockdown would have stopped most boxers in their tracks.
Singh, who was undefeated in seven going into the fight, kept going, even when he looked down and out, but a ferocious left hook to the body in the sixth round proved too much, with Mulligan's hand raised.
The Engishman's corner admitted they would have thrown the towel in, had the fight not been stopped in the sixth round.
That leaves Mulligan on 7-0 as a pro, following an impressive amateur career.
Fighting Scots Gym owner Gilluley said: 'Lennon put Singh down in the first after both went to war, and continued to win the rounds until the fifth, when Singh started coming back into the fight.
'Round six, it was over when Lennon put Singh down again from a left body shot to the liver. He never recovered, and the referee stopped the fight.
'Lennon now has youth Commonwealth and Silver Commonwealth, after only seven fights.
'That has elevated him to number three in the British rankings, which is fantastic.
'It's great news for us, too. He'll be fighting again in September or October, we're waiting to hear.'
