Disturbing fake AI video of Pahang Sultan raises concern on identity theft
This is best demonstrated by a recent video where AI generated a very convincing video of the Sultan of Pahang. The alarming video showed the Sultan stating that Malaysians who have debt can have it settled by Datuk Abdul Majid.
The AI generated figure said he trusted Majid and added that people should follow, comment and send WhatsApp messages to this poor Datuk Abdul Majid, whoever he is.

According to Istana Pahang, via the official Facebook account of the Pahang Royal Household, clarified that the video circulated through several TikTok accounts is false and constitutes a misuse of Al-Sultan Abdullah's image for fraudulent purposes and to deceive the public.
'The public is advised not to share the video, not to believe any links or information contained within it, and to report any suspicious content to the authorities immediately,' said the statement.

Kuala Lumpur: The government is considering introducing a law to regulate and boost the MyDigital ID system to tackle the scepticism surrounding the initiative, the Dewan Rakyat was told today. Federal territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the current voluntary registration model for the digital ID system was a limitation that the government was looking to address. Zaliha was responding to a supplementary question from Ronald Kiandee (PN-Beluran), who had raised concerns about public confidence in the initiative. Kiandee cited the recent disruption of the autogate system at the Johor customs, immigration and quarantine (CIQ) complex, which he said was linked to integration issues, as an example of what could erode public trust. 'Three days ago, we were informed about a disruption to the autogate system at the Johor CIQ, which was said to have been caused by the integration system. 'Actually, this is a concern for Malaysians and the public regarding the initiative. There are concerns about privacy and security, the reliability of digital infrastructure and the implementing agencies, and the potential for misuse,' he said. Kiandee also noted that only 2.8 million Malaysians had registered for MyDigital ID as of the second quarter of 2025 – less than the number of those who had signed up for other government initiatives like PADU and Budi. MyDigital ID is a national digital identification initiative developed in 2016, aimed at providing a secure and authenticated method for verifying identities online. The system is intended for use across both public and private sectors to verify user identities during online transactions. Zaliha said the government did not store users' personal data, and that the MyDigital ID system used biometric and cryptographic technologies to ensure security and prevent data breaches. She also said the government was working with stakeholders to boost adoption of the platform. 'We are encouraging cooperation with all parties, including the private sector,' she said. Malaysia aims for regional AI leadership with 2026-2030 action plan
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian government is crafting the National Artificial Intelligence Action Plan 2026–2030 to establish the country as a regional AI leader and improve its global AI rankings. Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo revealed that Malaysia currently ranks 26th in the Stanford HAI AI Index (2023) and 24th in the Oxford Insights Government AI Readiness Index 2024. 'On local talent development, the government has already rolled out several large-scale initiatives to boost the nation's workforce readiness for AI adoption,' Gobind said in Parliament. He highlighted the 'AI for My Future' programme, a collaboration with Microsoft, designed to train nearly 800,000 Malaysians through interactive modules. The minister was responding to Batu Gajah MP Sivakumar Varatharaju Naidu's query on Malaysia's AI preparedness, covering technology transfer, talent development, and governance integration. MyDigital ID registrations hit 2.8 million in Q2 2025
KUALA LUMPUR: Around 2.8 million Malaysians have registered for MyDigital ID as of the second quarter of 2025, marking a significant rise from 1.8 million in the first quarter. The surge in registrations is attributed to growing use-cases, including access to government and private sector services. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa highlighted key applications driving adoption. 'Examples include logging into the MyGOV portal, accessing the MyJPJ app and verifying prepaid SIM card ownership. As more government and private sector services adopt MyDigital ID, public demand for registration naturally rises,' she said during the Dewan Rakyat session. The update was provided in response to a query from Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (PN–Beluran), who sought details on MyDigital ID's implementation progress, system integration, and its impact on public services. On system integration, Dr Zaliha confirmed that 82 application systems have been linked with MyDigital ID. This includes 35 fully integrated government systems, 17 in implementation, and 21 in early discussions. Additionally, seven non-government systems have been integrated, with two more underway. To ensure wider accessibility, the government is collaborating with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to improve internet connectivity in rural areas. Dr Zaliha added that efforts are being made to combat cybercrime through partnerships with MCMC and the Royal Malaysia Police, including prepaid SIM verification via MyDigital ID, expected by Q3 2025. - Bernama
