Revealed: Trent Alexander Arnold's new shirt number at Real Madrid ahead of Club World Cup after controversial Liverpool exit

Daily Maila day ago

Trent Alexander-Arnold has been handed his new shirt number at Real Madrid ahead of the Club World Cup.
The right back is in line to make his debut for the Spanish giants next Wednesday when they face Al-Hilal in their first group game after Real paid Liverpool £10m to release him from his contract early so he could play in the tournament.
Alexander-Arnold wore the No 66 shirt at Liverpool, but this will not be an option at Real due to LaLiga rules stating that shirt numbers must fall between 1 and 25.
It has now been confirmed that Alexander-Arnold will wear the No 12 shirt at his new club. The name on the back of his shirt will also change and now read 'Trent' rather than 'Alexander-Arnold'.
The 26-year-old is due to be unveiled as a Madrid player on Thursday before the team jet off to the US to compete in the group stage where they are scheduled to face Al-Hilal, Pachuca and Red Bull Salzburg.
It will be Alexander-Arnold's first chance to impress new manager Xabi Alonso, with the Spaniard taking over from Carlo Ancelotti.

Fans will be eager to see how Alexander-Arnold settles at Madrid following his controversial Liverpool exit.
Alexander-Arnold opted to run down his contract to leave his boyhood club on a free transfer at the end of the season, leading to an angry response from some Liverpool fans.
After announcing his decision to leave in early May, Alexander-Arnold was booed by his own supporters when he came off the bench during a 2-2 draw with Arsenal at Anfield.
A number of his team-mates and Arne Slot leapt to his defence after that game as they asked fans to remember his previous years of service.
The England international did not feature in Liverpool's next game - a 3-2 away defeat by Brighton - but did come on as a half-time substitute on the final day against Crystal Palace.
On that occasion, he received a much better reception from supporters, and he was then cheered by most fans when he went up to collect his medal during the post-match presentation as Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy.
Alexander-Arnold broke down in tears as he did a lap of honour to thank fans after the presentation, and he was seen crying again during Liverpool's open-top bus parade the following day.
But he has never left Merseyside behind for a new life in the Spanish capital, and he is just days away from making his debut for Real in his No 12 jersey.

England Under-21s make perfect start to European Championship defence

Goals either side of the break from Harvey Elliott and Jonathan Rowe had put Lee Carsley's side in control. Daniel Fila reduced the deficit in the 50th minute, before England defender Charlie Cresswell headed in a third from a corner with 15 minutes left. The Young Lions – who beat Spain two years ago to win the European title for a third time – had made a bright start in their opening Group B fixture at the the MOL Arena in Dunajska Streda. Job done on matchday one. Lee Carsley's #YoungLions are off to a winning start at the #U21EURO finals! 💪 — England (@England) June 12, 2025 Newcastle defender Tino Livramento made an early break down the left, with his ball in was palmed away by Czech goalkeeper Lukas Hornicek before captain James McAtee scuffed his shot wide. Ipswich winger Omari Hutchinson was also lively on the left flank, cutting inside to fire a rising shot which was tipped over. The Czechs threatened in the 12th minute when Martin Suchomel sent a cross from the left through the England six-yard box, which Vaclav Sejk just failed to connect with. Brighton goalkeeper James Beadle then made a smart reaction save from Stepan Chaloupek's powerful header, pushing the ball over, after a free-kick was swung into the England penalty area. After soaking up plenty of pressure, England took the lead in the 38th minute. Harvey Elliott's tenth U21 goal ⚽️#U21EURO — UEFA Men's Youth (@UEFAMensYouth) June 12, 2025 Hutchinson drove forwards from the left before laying the ball out to Livramento. The defender's looping cross through the six-yard box was picked up at the back post by McAtee, who laid it back for Liverpool winger Elliott to fire a low shot into the far corner. The Czech Republic were almost straight back on level terms when a corner was flicked on by Krystof Danek and the ball bounced off England defender Jarell Quansah, but Beadle got down to make a save on the line. England – without the likes of Liam Delap and Jobe Bellingham who will be at the Club World Cup – doubled their lead three minutes into the second half. Livramento's low cross was touched home at the near post by Monaco forward Rowe ahead of Czech defender Filip Prebsl, with the ball diverting in off goalkeeper Hornicek. The Czechs, though, soon pulled a goal back in the 50th minute when Fila got in front of Livramento to power a free header past Beadle from Sejk's lofted cross. GOAL! Daniel Fila scores in the 51st minute! #U21EURO #CZE21 — Czech Football National Team (@ceskarepre_eng) June 12, 2025 England boss Carsley made an attacking double change with 20 minutes left, sending on Arsenal forward Ethan Nwaneri to replace Rowe and Birmingham's Jay Stansfield for McAtee. Nwaneri almost made an instant impact when he cut in from the right and curled a low strike goalwards, which was deflected past the far post. Toulouse centre-back Cresswell restored England's two-goal cushion with 15 minutes left when he showed great strength to get up and power down a header from Alex Scott's corner. Beadle then made another smart save from Czech substitute Adam Karabec in stoppage time. England next face Slovenia in Nitra on Sunday, with their last group fixture against Germany on June 18.

BMW Launches Stunning M2 CS Built to Kill on Track

The ultimate driving machine for the track is here. BMW introduces the stunning M2 CS, a purpose-built weapon engineered to maximize speed and agility on race days. The new M2 CS is here The current BMW M2 is considered one of the best driver's cars on the planet and one of the best BMW M cars ever created, which is saying something. Now, BMW ratchets up the G87 second-generation M2 with the highly anticipated M2 CS. The first official M2 CS images recently dropped after its debut at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2025, and they show us a more aggressive, track-ready M2 that promises to be even more rewarding than the already thrilling M2. Previous Pause Next Unmute 0:00 / 0:09 Audi A5 replaces A4: So, what's changed? Watch More The M2 CS gets a design worthy of its name 2026 BMW M2 CS — Source: BMW The CS gets some important aesthetic and functional changes that set it apart from the standard M2. In the past, all CS (Competition Sport) cars looked quite a bit different from stock, and based on these photos, we can see that the M2 CS gets new grille intakes and revisions to the lower bumper intakes. It looks like the vertical slats from the stock M2 are gone, while the rear receives a sizeable ducktail spoiler. 2026 BMW M2 CS The M2 CS also receives intricate matte bronze wheels, a BMW CS hallmark that's not available on the regular M2, with bold red brake calipers peeking through. The wheels will most likely be shod with grippy Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, but there's also word that the M2 CS could get sport, track, and ultra-track tire choices. Both the bronze wheels and the brake calipers pop nicely against the model's rather conservative flat grey exterior paint known as Brooklyn Grey, although other paint choices will include Sapphire Black and M Portimao Blue. All three paint colors are currently also available on the 2025 BMW M2. Inside, the M2 CS gets more aggressive sport bucket seats and subtle red CS logos on the door card and center console. 2026 BMW M2 CS — Source: BMW Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. The M2 CS is rumored to get a serious power bump BMW hasn't revealed official output figures yet, but rumors from last year suggested the turbocharged straight-six under the hood could make as much as 518 horsepower, substantially more than the stock M2. Reports also indicate that the M2 CS will remain rear-wheel-drive, setting it apart from its larger, xDrive-equipped siblings. Perhaps the only bad news about the new M2 CS is that it could get flappy paddles only, meaning no manual transmission option. The eighth member of the CS clan 2026 BMW M2 CS — Source: BMW The CS badge stands for 'Competition Sport,' a moniker for BMW's specially formulated performance cars that exhibit technically innovative BMW components for enhanced power and handling. In total, there have been seven CS cars, starting with the 2017 BMW M4 F82 CS, but the true father of the CS cars was the 1988 E30 BMW M3 Evolution, a much-coveted collector's car that's tremendously valuable even today. The M2 CS will join this illustrious set, following in the footsteps of the 2020 BMW M2 CS F87 as well as the more recent M3 CS Touring and the M4 CS. 2026 BMW M2 CS — Source: BMW All BMW CS cars get increased engine power, more aggressive suspension, lightweight construction, and enhanced aerodynamics, without compromising driver and passenger comfort. The automaker will supposedly create a CS version of the current M5, too. Final thoughts BMW M CS cars are some of the best-performers the world has ever seen, and the M2 CS should prove to be a thrilling sports coupe to drive. If the rumors are true that it won't get a proper manual transmission, our hearts will be broken (a little). The 2025 BMW M2 in bone stock form is one of the best driver's cars available today, so to remove some of the engagement seems counterintuitive. That said, the additional power, lighter weight, better suspension, and more aggressive tire set should enhance the experience above the automatic version of the current base M2. How ‘frightening' Liverpool may have found Mo Salah replacement and who gets Viktor Gyokeres

SunSport exclusively revealed that Bradley Barcola is on Liverpool's radar in a blockbuster move. Our very own Will Pugh and Dean Scoggins share their thoughts on all the deals and speculation in The Sun's new show Transfers Exposed. 'Be afraid of Liverpool' The Reds are prepared to battle Bayern Munich for the £100m-rated winger Barcola, 22. Liverpool have also not given up on signing Alexander Isak from Newcastle - though if the Toon stick to their £150m price tag - Barcola will be the alternative. Desire Doue, Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are PSG's first choice front three. It means Barcola could want out - especially with a World Cup on the horizon. Arne Slot is building a versatile group of attackers that can play anywhere along the front in Salah, £126m man Florian Wirtz, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz. A statement summer from Liverpool is coming with Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez expected to be their new flying full-backs. 7 Gyok to go Sporting's president Frederico Varandas has furiously hit back at Victor Gyokeres saying: "Threats and blackmail don't work." Reports from Lisbon claim the Swedish striker is considering going on strike to force an exit. Gyokeres, 27, is furious with Sporting for going back on their word over a transfer promise to him. He believes he had a gentleman's agreement to leave for £50million with a further £8million in add-ons. That claim has been rubbished by Varandas and good on Sporting for standing firm with their price. They know a sale is coming but will not be bullied into cashing-in on the cheap. Gyokeres will likely have the choice between Man Utd and Arsenal. And there should not be concern about Gyokeres' fit for the Premier League should it be a move to Old Trafford or the Emirates. 7 Viktor Gyokeres is considering going on strike to leave Sporting Credit: Getty Ruben Amorim believes he can produce one touch finishes and be a big enough physical presence in leading the line - they did effectively together at Sporting. As for Arsenal, they just need someone with a proven track record of putting the ball in the back of the net. 97 goals in 102 Sporting games suggests Gyokeres can do that. If the Gunners can add a top-quality left-winger to their squad as well, a move to North London would be the smarter choice over the circus in Manchester. Gyokeres deserves a Premier League chance. But don't expect Erling Haaland numbers straight away. The Greal Deal A changing of the guard is happening at Man City after the signings of Rayan Cherki, Rayan Ait-Nouri and Tijjani Reijnders. Cherki, 21, will get fans off their seats and the ex-Lyon man will be the wildcard Pep Guardiola has been missing. 7 Jack Grealish's days at City are numbered Credit: Getty City became a bit predictable last season, but trickster Cherki can do anything with the ball at his feet from rainbow flicks over defender's heads to goals from anywhere with either feet. Let's hope Pep does not take the creativity and excitement out his game like he has done to Grealish, who will leave after being left out their Club World Cup squad. Newcastle, Aston Villa, Tottenham and Napoli have all been linked with a move for him in the region of £40m-£50m. And the Toon should go all out to bring the 29-year-old to St James' Park. 7 They will have dreams of winning the Europa League and could do with another wide man to compete with Anthony Gordon, Harvey Barnes and Jacob Murphy, while Grealish could also play just behind Isak as a No10. Newcastle have the money, their fans love a maverick and Eddie Howe is the type of boss to get the best out of him. 7 TRANSFER NEWS LIVE - KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW
