Atalanta Patron Addresses Gasperini and Lookman Rift
Atalanta owner Steve Pagliuca weighed on the recent affairs within his side, especially the friction between Ademola Lookman and Gian Piero Gasperini, in a rare interview with La Gazzetta dello Sport.
'We wish to leave this matter in the rearview mirror. I think we have thanks to our recent win. We like the fire with which we play these matches. We have a great and passionate coach. He made a mistake by singling out a player.'
'The Percassi family and I have concurred to a policy here at Atalanta. If things go poorly, we take the blame and look at ourselves to see what we can improve. The footballers are having a great campaign. We wouldn't be here without the contribution of Lookman, Charles De Ketelaere, and the rest of the squad. I should name them all. We faced Club Brugge without five important contributors, who were injured. It was an emotional response by the boss and something we're not proud of. But he is still a great gaffer.'
Pagliuca dished on the future of Gasperini.
'Luca Percassi will deal with it as usual. We'll do what the manager believes to be the best solution for him.'
The governor hopes Atalanta will have a strong finish.
'We were luckier last season regarding injuries and refereeing controversies. Still, we're in the top three and close to the first position. We're very proud of what we are doing. There are 12 matches left. We wish to maintain the momentum we gained in the Empoli game and keep forging ahead. We love challenges like chasing the Scudetto.'

Henderson's experience? Another Le Fee? Fans on replacing Bellingham
[Getty Images] We asked for your views on what the impact of Jobe Bellingham's transfer will be, and how you would like the money reinvested at Sunderland. Here are some of your comments: Freddie: I would love to see another Enzo le Fee type name linked. Ardon Jashari from Club Brugge or Mohamed Camara from Monaco would be excellent business, sticking to our model of buying young and selling big. Advertisement Andrew: It was inevitable Jobe would move on and his comments today show maturity beyond his years. Best wishes to you and your family, Jobe. Tim: I don't see Sunderland rushing through any deals. I'd much prefer them to secure the right players at the right price. Jordan Henderson would be a great addition, with experience, but not if he is demanding silly wages. I do believe some of our current players will step up a level so a handful of new additions with experience would be great to see. Colin: Good luck to Jobe. He wants to play at the highest level in the Champions League and we have got a fair price, which I hope will be used to improve the squad! Graeme: Huge loss to Sunderland, but have total faith in club with replenishing the squad. Best wishes to Jobe (the adopted Mackem)!

'Negative experience' - Juric breaks silence on 107-day Saints reign
IVAN Juric admitted his ill-fated reign as Saints boss was "a negative experience" but insisted it was "very positive" for his growth as a manager. New Atalanta boss Juric departed Saints in April following official confirmation of their relegation to the Championship, having lost 12 of his 14 Premier League games. Advertisement The Croatian's only league victory came at fellow relegated side Ipswich Town, and his south coast departure came six months after he was sacked by Roma. Juric has now replaced Gian Piero Gasperini at Atalanta, after his mentor joined Roma, and has opened up on his difficult season in Italy and England. Speaking in his first press conference, Juric said: "(It was) a negative year on a sporting level. Human and knowledge level, it was fantastic. "I think I feel much stronger than a year ago, because (at) Roma I saw great clubs, great players. I learned a lot. In Southampton, I appreciated a fabulous Premier League. Advertisement "People who are in the club, who know how to work. I saw really beautiful things. In the Premier League, I also remember the level of the players, (it's) very high. "I think two negative experiences on the one hand, and on the other, (it was) very positive for me and my growth." Juric lasted just 107 days in charge of Southampton and departed 24 hours after their 3-1 defeat to Spurs, which confirmed the club's relegation to the Championship. He has been replaced by Belgian-born English coach Will Still, who has signed a three-year deal and is targeting an instant return to the Premier League. Advertisement Juric has penned a two-year contract at Champions League-qualified Atalanta and is set to coach in UEFA's top club competition for the first time in his career. The Split-born manager did take charge of four Europa League fixtures during his two-month spell in charge of Roma, winning just once and losing twice. Fellow former Saints boss Russell Martin, whom Juric replaced, will also be competing in the 2025/26 Champions League after taking over at Rangers. The Ibrox club will enter the Champions League in the second round of qualifying, while Atalanta have qualified directly by finishing third in Serie A.

Departing Italy Head Coach Smooths Water After Alleged Bust-Up With Inter Milan Veteran Defender: 'Everything Was Ok' Outgoing Italy manager Luciano Spalletti shed new light on his recent conflict with Inter Milan veteran Francesco Acerbi. During his final press conference as the Azzurri boss via FCInterNews, the 66-year-old decided to clear the air. Advertisement Francesco Acerbi found himself under tremendous media pressure after reportedly rejecting Spalletti's call-up earlier in June. Indeed, the 37-year-old refused to show up for Italy's 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Norway and Moldova. Despite his impressive form for Inter, he felt there was a lack of respect toward him from the national team camp. Therefore, he turned down Luciano Spalletti, prompting a fierce response from Gianluigi Buffon, among others. Meanwhile, the Scudetto-winning manager decided to part with the four-time world champions last weekend. Spalletti announced his imminent departure shortly after a humiliating 3-0 loss in Norway. Advertisement However, he stuck with the team for last night's home win against Moldova. Italy won 2-0 to reignite their hopes of qualifying for the World Cup finals for the first time since 2014. (Photo by) 'I hope that those who refuse a call-up will no longer be allowed to return to the national team,' Spalletti was adamant. 'In my response, I may have behaved badly, but then we had a phone conversation. 'I apologized to the player, and he said: 'Coach, if you put it that way, it's all good…' So that's the situation. 'It's true that I initially left him out because I wanted to go with Calafiori and Buongiorno, and Leoni was also getting ready. Advertisement 'I'm convinced others would've made the same decision. 'When I asked 'How old is he?' I was really doing the math with the next World Cup in mind. 'At the end of the season, Acerbi was the best of all, and I have to go by what the league shows me. 'That situation threw me off a bit because I had even brought in a few extra players, but physically, we were worn out, drained… 'It becomes hard when you don't have muscle or legs.'
