FAMILY TIES I risked prison to marry my cousin, the sex was sensational and we had a baby – but then my world fell apart
A PREGNANCY announcement is usually met with messages of love and support but Angie Peng faced only vile hate instead.
Sick messages told the mum-to-be she was evil and that her baby would be 'born with 10 heads'.

So bitter was the vitriol that Angie, now 44, was forced to turn comments off altogether.
But it wasn't the pregnancy itself that was generating the hate but how it came about as the father of Angie's baby is her first cousin Michael.
The couple faced hostility from the moment they announced their relationship from both strangers and their own family.
Angie says: 'We posted a video of us kissing on the family Facebook page.
'One family member commented, 'I'll never be OK with this, you share the same blood.'
'Another said we were bringing dishonour on the family. That hurt but ultimately we were just two adults in love. What's so wrong with that?'
Growing up, Angie had always felt drawn to Michael.
She says: 'He was 10 months younger than me, but we only saw each other every few years because my dad's job took us overseas.
'When we were both seven, I saw him at a family party and we both felt an immediate connection.
'We made little rings out of pipe cleaners, which now seems quite symbolic.
I visited 'world's most incestuous town' to track down infamous family - I was reported to POLICE and chased out of town
'Later, we climbed into a wardrobe, shut the door and shared a kiss.
"His little brother opened the door, saw us and ran off shouting that he knew what we did, it made me wonder if we had done something wrong.
'Later that day, Michael told my mum he was going to marry me, she told him that we could only be good friends.'
But the pair's bond grew.
Angie, an artist, says: 'By the time I was 10, I had short hair, and Michael and I looked so alike, it was like looking at myself.
'Our personalities aligned too; we were both playful and mischievous.
'We'd sneak off, holding hands, desperate to be alone together.
'The other cousins would follow us though and report back to the adults. Eventually, my mum told me not to act so 'extra' with Michael.'

They were forced to travel across the country to marry as they faced five years in prison if they married in Utah

The cousins, who are from a large Mormon family, refused to let anyone come between them.
Then, just before Angie left for university aged 17, they both stayed the night at their mutual grandmother's house.
Angie says: "Michael snuck into my bedroom but nothing intimate happened, we just lay there talking for hours."
Two years later, Angie married someone else and went on to have three children.
Michael married too, and out of respect for each other's relationships, the cousins kept their distance from each other.
But after nine years, Angie got divorced.
She began working as a stripper in an unconventional attempt to boost her body image, and had been a single mum for 10 years when, in 2018, Michael's photo popped up on Facebook.
Angie says: 'It turned out we were both living in Utah and his marriage had ended too.
'We started talking online and I started having dreams about him.
My oldest said the relationship wasn't acceptable
Angie Pen
'When I told him, he said he'd dreamt about me too saying sometimes it was innocent and sometimes sexual.
'One day I asked if he'd marry me and he said, 'In a heartbeat'.'
They met up soon after at a family gathering and, the following month, in January 2019, shared their first adult kiss.
Angie says: 'I didn't have my kids that day, so we got together at my house.
'Michael was shaking with nerves and I was sweating.
'We ended up kissing passionately for three hours.
'A few weeks later, we made love for the first time. It was sensational – both physically and spiritually.'
Not wanting to waste time, they went online and were horrified to discover that marriage between first cousins in their home state of Utah risked up to five years in prison – but it was legal in nearby Colorado.
Angie says: 'It was crazy, it should be legal everywhere. Love is love.'
They decided to do it, but first they had to break news of their relationship to their parents.
Angie insists that despite the initial shock, they all took it well – but Angie's three children, then aged 17, 15 and 11, didn't.
Angie says: 'My middle child started crying.
'My oldest said the relationship wasn't acceptable.
'I realised we were hurting people but I was so full of gusto and enthusiasm, I didn't want to give Michael up. He made me happy.'
Then came their Facebook announcement with the kissing video, which outraged their wider relatives.
But not wanting it to deter them, just two months later, in March 2020, the couple went to Colorado for a civil wedding – one of just 18 states allowing unrestricted marriage between first cousins.
Angie's children came round in the end.
Can I marry my cousin in the UK?
ACROSS the globe, more than 10 percent of marriages are between first or second cousins.
In the UK, there's no legal bar to two cousins having a relationship.
That means that if end up falling for the children of your aunts and uncles, there's nothing stopping you from eventually tying the knot.
If you're over the age of 18, you can do this without the consent of your legal guardian or parent.
First-cousin marriages were once quite common in Europe, especially among the elite.
She says: 'There were no guests, no flowers.
'Michael had cold feet the night before; he was sensitive and was freaking out but he loved me so he did it anyway.
'When we uploaded the wedding video to Facebook, someone said that it wasn't the place to post that, but other family said congratulations.'
The couple later started an online petition calling for marriage between cousins to be made legal.
It was met with more backlash, but Angie felt it was important to have their voices heard.
A few months later, Angie fell pregnant but sadly miscarried at 10 weeks.
She says: 'It felt cruel, like a moment for the haters to say, 'See? That's what you get.''
Genetic testing later revealed that while Angie was a carrier of cystic fibrosis, Michael wasn't, confirming there were no genetic risks to pregnancy.
Soon after, Angie discovered she was carrying again, and in May 2020, their son Eric was born.

Angie says: 'He was perfect. We were smitten.'
But just 14 months later, in July 2021, and after a long-term battle with drug addiction, Michael tragically died of an overdose, leaving Angie heartbroken.
She is now trying to build a life without her soulmate.
She says: 'I'll always tell Eric, who is now five, about his dad.
'Just last month, for the first time, Eric suddenly said to me, 'Daddy is your cousin', so I took out a Beatrix Potter book in which Benjamin Bunny marries his cousin.
'I'd bought it when I was pregnant, ready for the day Eric would start asking questions as I always wanted to be honest with him.
'We read the book together and he was fine. If he has more questions, of course I'll answer them.'
Angie is now admin of a Facebook group for cousins in relationships and is continuing to petition to change the law.
She adds: 'Love is love and should be celebrated.
'I loved Michael deeply and am grateful for the time we had together.
'People try to make out that our relationship was wrong and dirty, but it was pure and wonderful. I have no regrets.'

Byron Black to be first man executed with working defibrillator fitted - despite claims he could suffer
A triple-killer is set to be the first man executed with a working defibrillator in his chest when he's put to death in Tennessee today. Byron Black's bid to delay the execution was denied on Monday, and he will now be killed by lethal injection. There is uncertainty over whether the device will shock his heart, potentially prolonging his death and causing suffering when the deadly cocktail takes effect. The 69-year-old is in a wheelchair and is said to have dementia, kidney failure, brain damage and congestive heart failure. His cardioverter-defibrillator is a battery-powered device that delivers electric shocks to restore a regular heartbeat if needed. Black's lawyers said a doctor should put a device over the implant to ensure it's switched off, and in July, a judge agreed it was necessary to avert the chance of unnecessary pain. But the state Supreme Court said last week the judge lacked authority to order the defibrillator to be deactivated. Lawyers representing Tennessee have argued that the lethal injection will not cause the device to shock Black and that he would not feel it even if it did. However, his lawyer, Kelley Henry, said the execution could become a "grotesque spectacle" and Black could still be in pain even if he looks unresponsive. Black shot dead his girlfriend Angela Clay and her two daughters - aged six and nine - in a jealous rage in 1988. He committed the murders while on work release for shooting Clay's estranged husband. Linette Bell, whose sister and two nieces were killed, recently told local station WKRN-TV: "He didn't have mercy on them, so why should we have mercy on him?" Black's lawyers have also unsuccessfully tried in recent years to save him from execution by arguing he's intellectually disabled and ineligible for the death penalty under US Supreme Court precedent. Twenty-seven men have been executed in the US so far this year - the highest since the 28 killed in 2015. However, nine others are scheduled before the end of 2025.

John Fetterman offers surprising take on Trump's Epstein files debacle as he breaks with his party
Democrat John Fetterman is striking a different position on the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files from the rest of his party. Donald Trump's administration continues to be embroiled in controversy over the release of the secret files of former financier and convicted pedophile. His Attorney General Pam Bondi is at the center of the drama as she's refused to put out the documents despite urging from the MAGA right and Democrats on the left. Fetterman, the only Democrat to vote for Bondi to be confirmed as attorney general earlier this year, offered a new take on the drama. The senator exclusively told the Daily Mail last week that 'everybody thinks that' Bondi should release the files. But he says he's 'not preoccupied' with them, unlike many of his colleagues in both political parties. 'You know, we've had it for four years before, and we didn't release it,' he said about the ex-Joe Biden administration. 'So, you know, I don't, I don't, I don't really think about it much,' Fetterman added, seemingly throwing his own political party under the bus. However, Democrats are now seizing on the files as way to put Republicans on the spot heading into the midterm elections. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called for an FBI investigation last week into whether foreign governments are trying to use the Epstein files against Trump. Democrats have seized on Trump's reluctance to release the files as a political vulnerability heading into next year's midterm elections. Schumer's latest escalation is an attempt to elevate the scandal to having potential national security implications. At a press conference during his trip to Scotland in late July, Trump said that all of the hubbub about the files was a 'hoax.' He also noted that the 'files were run by sick, sick people' during the last administration and suggested they 'put things in the file that was a fake.' Trump is known to have run in the same social circles as Epstein, and the two were photographed at events together in the late 1990's and early 2000s. Their friendship doesn't mean the president took part in any inappropriate activity. A Wall Street Journal Report released earlier this month reported that Trump was one of Epstein's friends who wrote him a letter for his 50th birthday in 2003, accompanied by a sketch of a naked woman, prompting president to deny that reporting and sue the paper. Another report by the paper revealed that Bondi told Trump his name was included in the files multiple times, sparking theories as to why the DOJ is refusing to release the full documents. Bondi has been reluctant to release the files, and called last month for a grand jury to release the transcripts from the criminal cases of Epstein and his top accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell. Trump himself said that he was the one who pushed Bondi to call for the release of the transcripts. 'Based on the ridiculous amount of publicity given to Jeffrey Epstein, I have asked Attorney General Pam Bondi to produce any and all pertinent Grand Jury testimony, subject to Court approval,' Trump wrote in a July 17 post on his social media site Truth Social. 'This SCAM, perpetuated by the Democrats, should end, right now!' The Trump administration's refusal to release the full Epstein files dominated the news cycle for most of July and both the president's political allies and adversaries are growing weary. Donald Trump once said he could shoot a man on Fifth Avenue and get away with it. But the scandal is proving difficult to tamp down. A rebel band of Republican lawmakers in the U.S. House of Representatives including some of MAGA's biggest stars - like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert - have even joined forces with hundreds of Democrats to force a bombshell ballot on the Epstein files. Despite the typical partisan battle lines being drawn on most issues in Washington, D.C. these days, this matter in particular has created an unlikely set of bedfellows. Progressive Democrat Ro Khanna and libertarian-minded Republican Thomas Massie of Kentucky teamed up last week to introduce the Epstein Files Transparency Act, which would compel Attorney General Pam Bondi to publicly release all unclassified materials relating to Jeffrey Epstein. The duo's resolution is receiving the the backing of a diverse set of members, including New York socialist darling Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Michigan 'Squad' member Rashida Tlaib, as well as Boebert of Colorado, Nancy Mace of South Carolina, and Greene of Georgia. Even if only the 10 GOP co-sponsors of the resolution were to support it, it would easily pass the House as just a simple majority is need, which is 218 votes out of 435. Speaker Mike Johnson sent the House home for the August recess before a vote on Khanna and Massie's resolution could be held.

Spirit Airlines pilot ‘removed from duty' after being arrested on stalking charges
A Spirit Airlines pilot has been 'removed from duty' after being arrested at work at New Orleans's international airport on stalking charges out of Kansas, according to officials. Dominic A Cipolla, 40, was charged with stalking two different people in a criminal complaint dated 11 July, records in the Johnson county courthouse in Olathe, Kansas, show. Officials haven't released much information about the charges against Cipolla, but the dates of birth listed in court documents for his alleged victims indicate that they are approximately 12 and 17 years old. Local law enforcement officers arrested Cipolla in connection with that complaint on 17 July while he was working at Louis Armstrong airport in the New Orleans suburb of Kenner, Louisiana. He was held as a fugitive at a local lockup before being transferred to the Johnson county jail on 2 August. He soon posted a $12,500 bond for his release from custody while awaiting the outcome of the charges against him and was tentatively scheduled to make an initial court appearance on 12 August, records show. When asked about Cipolla on Monday, a spokesperson for Spirit – which is based in Florida and known for its low air fare – said in a statement that the company was 'aware of a matter involving a pilot at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport … which was unrelated to the performance of their job duties'. 'The pilot was removed from duty pending our investigation into the matter,' the airline's statement said. 'And we arranged for another pilot to operate the flight.' Records in Cipolla's case show that the charge he faces in connection with the younger of the two alleged victims is considered a severity level 7 person felony in Kansas, which is a crime that can carry about one to three years in prison under the state's laws. The other charge is considered a class A person misdemeanor, which can carry a fine of up to $2,500 or up to a year in county jail. Cipolla is described as a resident of Kansas City, Missouri, in court records. Kansas City is about 22 miles (35km) north of Olathe. Attempts to contact Cipolla were not immediately successful. A profile under his name at a publicly accessible sales and recruiting platform says Cipolla once served in the US military and joined Spirit in 2022 as a first officer after spending the previous three years in the same role at the Texas regional airline Envoy Air.
