Joe Cole sends message to Chelsea over Jadon Sancho transfer from Man Utd
Joe Cole wants Chelsea to sign Jadon Sancho on a permanent transfer from Manchester United and insists he has 'done well' during his loan spell at Stamford Bridge.
Sancho's 83rd-minute curler all but put the Conference League final to bed as Chelsea came from behind to beat Real Betis 4-1.
Betis deservedly led at half-time through Abde Ezzalzouli's early opener but Chelsea turned things around during an impressive second-half display.
Enzo Fernandez equalised on 65 minutes and Nicolas Jackson put Chelsea ahead five minutes later.
Late goals from Sancho and Moises Caicedo ended any prospect of a Real Betis comeback as Chelsea, as expected, proved too strong in the inferior Conference League.

Having started on the bench, Sancho made a key contribution following his second-half substitution, potentially boosting his chances of earning a permanent move to Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea agreed to sign Sancho permanently for around £25m when they signed him on loan from Manchester United last summer.
However, they are unable to cancel the agreement by paying their Premier League rivals £5m in compensation and reports suggest that remains a possibility following Sancho's mixed spell in west London.
Asked about Sancho's future at Chelsea before the Europa Conference League final, Cole said: 'I think Jadon is a really great player and I think he's done well.
'He's been rotated in and out a bit but I want to see Jadon playing. You want a player like that in your squad. It will come down to a financial decision I imagine but I really like him.'
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Enzo Maresca said discussions would be held around Sancho's future in the days following the final.
Asked if the Real Betis game could be Sancho's last game for Chelsea, Maresca said: 'I don't know. More Trending
'I said that when in the last weeks you asked me about different players, I always said the same. And the reason why is because it's the truth.
'It's not the moment we have tomorrow, final. Then in 24 hours, 48 hours, we're going to start to talk about the future.
'But at this moment, there is not any thought or any decision made on Jadon or any different players.'

The Blues will instead pay a £5million fee to opt out of their obligation to buy outright the 25-year-old, who joined last August initially on a deal until the end of June. The terms of the loan meant Chelsea would have had to pay a fee of around £25m to complete the transfer if they finished higher than 14th in the league – or pay a penalty to opt out. It is understood that a failure between the club and the player to agree personal terms was a factor in the deal being terminated. It means an uncertain future for the former England winger, who left Old Trafford following a prolonged falling out with former boss Erik ten Hag and had not been expected to return. It was anticipated that the move to west London, which was agreed late in last summer's transfer window, would herald a fresh start and reinvigorate a career that had stalled at United, where Sancho had rarely matched the form he had displayed for his former club Borussia Dortmund. However, following a bright start in which he assisted the winning goal for Christopher Nkunku against Bournemouth on his Chelsea debut, his contributions for Enzo Maresca's side were at best patchy. He scored only five goals in 41 appearances across the season, though that number included memorable Premier League strikes against Tottenham and Ipswich as well as the third goal in Chelsea's 4-1 Conference League final victory over Real Betis. Maresca always publicly backed him whilst indicating he wanted more goals from the former Manchester City academy player, though he also made similar demands of his other wingers, Noni Madueke and Pedro Neto. In the end, Sancho was made to settle for being rotated in and out of the team with Neto and Madueke, with youth product Tyrique George also coming into the side.

Russell Martin looks set to win race to become new Rangers head coach
The former Rangers and Scotland defender was reported to be finalising personal terms after accepting the position, which became vacant in February when Philippe Clement was sacked. The apparently imminent appointment is the latest in a series of major developments at Ibrox. An American consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises secured a majority shareholding on Friday and new sporting director Kevin Thelwell officially began work on Monday. Thelwell stated on his first day that the recruitment of a new head coach would come to a conclusion 'in the coming days'. Outgoing Real Madrid assistant manager Davide Ancelotti and former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard – who reportedly pulled out of the running – were also among the leading candidates. Martin has been without a club since being sacked by Southampton in December after a 5-0 home defeat to Tottenham left Saints bottom of the Premier League on five points after 16 matches. The 39-year-old had secured promotion in his first season in charge thanks to a Championship play-off final win against Leeds. The ex-Peterborough and Norwich captain began his managerial career in November 2019 when he stepped up from MK Dons' playing squad to take charge of his team. How Man Utd could line up with Cunha and Mbeumo after £125.5m transfer spree – and where does Bruno Fernandes fit in?
MANCHESTER UNITED are making early moves in the transfer market. This summer represents the second summer window that will be overseen by Sir Jim Ratcliffe 's Ineos since their arrival as co-owners at Old Trafford, but the stakes could not be higher. 3 3 3 While there is an argument to be made that none of the transfers made in the last 12 months were total flops, it did not stop Man Utd from having their worst-ever Premier League season. The squad needs a lot of work to bring it up to the standard of even a top-half team. Fortunately, club transfer chiefs have wasted no time in trying to address those issues, first of all confirming the signing of 15-goal Wolves Brazil ace Matheus Cunha for £62.5million. The 26-year-old's move will be completed once he returns from international duty, but just a day later, reports emerged revealing Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo had his heart set on a move to Manchester. Mbeumo scored 20 goals and added seven assists last season, and according to reports, European football was not a deal breaker for the 25-year-old as Newcastle loomed in a deal estimated to cost £50m. Furthermore, club captain and talisman Bruno Fernandes will not move to Al-Hilal despite a crazy offer of £700,000-a-week and around £100m for United. While Fernandes - the team's only genuine world-class player - seemingly staying is doubtless a positive, it poses the question of how Ruben Amorim will arrange his new assortment of attacking goodies. SunSport has taken a look at three ways Man Utd could line up next season, including some other stars the fallen giant has been linked with ahead of a huge summer. As mentioned earlier, Man Utd need work from top to bottom, including both a new goalkeeper, central midfielder and striker, even after the Cunha and Mbeumo deals. For our first possible team, we have named World Cup winner Emi Martinez in goal after SunSport exclusively revealed how the Aston Villa star was "up for the challenge" of turning Man Utd around. Rashford to Inter Milan? Man Utd Star Eyes Shock Serie A Move! Our starting back three sees Lisandro Martinez, who prior to his injury was one of the best performers under Amorim, alongside Matthijs de Ligt and Leny Yoro, who both got better as the season went on. We have opted to play Fernandes in midfield, where he can get on the ball the most and set the tempo from deeper, which seems to be his new main position under Amorim. Next to him, we have named Brighton star Carlos Baleba, who would act as the perfect foil to the 30-year-old in the middle of the park, but crucially also bring on and off the ball quality. The data suggests the 21-year-old is among the best in the league for defensive contributions such as blocks, interceptions and tackles in the attacking third. He also ranks fifth in ball recoveries in the league, behind Moises Caicedo, Fernandes, Elliot Anderson and Joao Gomes. This would naturally be an expensive deal, so only time will tell whether he firstly wants the move and secondly whether Man Utd can agree a good deal with Brighton, who are notoriously tough negotiators. But then, with Amad Diallo and Patrick Dorgu as the wing-backs supporting Mbeumo and Cunha, we have added former Premier League bad boy Aleksandar Mitrovic into the attacking mix. The Al-Hilal star is reportedly open to a return to England, and joining Man Utd to link up with Cunha and Mbeumo would see the club have three of the best midtable stars the Prem has seen in the last five years. However, our other teams have also swapped some of the names mentioned for similar players linked. In goal, we have also speculated on the arrival of former Man Utd academy shot-stopper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic and Serie A star Zion Suzuki. Man Utd will need a top midfielder who is physically fit and capable on the ball to strengthen the spine of the team, which also leads us to Crystal Palace 's Adam Wharton as an alternative to Baleba. Again, this is an expensive deal. But Man Utd should be eyeing sure hits in the market this summer, rather than speculating on potential - a criteria both Baleba and Wharton, while admittedly still young, already possess. In terms of Fernandes' role, there is an argument to be made that his best football for Man Utd came playing right behind the striker, where he is most impactful in the final third. Cunha and Mbeumo represent two strong profiles to link up with. And should Man Utd suffer a striker crisis or fail to land an appropriate ace this summer, they could always deploy Cunha as a "false 9" with Mbeumo and Fernandes buzzing off of his link play. There is also a chance Amorim switches to a more attacking two-striker system if he wants to really stretch games. If Man Utd can set up a reunion between Amorim and Viktor Gyokeres, he may look to have two fast forwards leading the line to stretch the opposition defence before the likes of Cunha arrive to support them in the final third. Sales will be key to these plans of course, but many are already seemingly in the works, with Rasmus Hojlund attracting interest from Inter Milan, Marcus Rashford linked with Barcelona, and bad boy Alejandro Garnacho tipped for a move to Chelsea or Napoli.
