Gannavaram airport to introduce international flights

Vijayawada: The Gannavaram airport advisory committee has suggested introducing international flights to Singapore, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The committee, headed by Machilipatnam MP V Balashowri, met on Thursday to review the ongoing works and the issues arising from passengers. Speaking to reporters, Balashowri said that by 2028, the number of domestic and international flights from Vijayawada will increase. We have requested a direct flight to the United States of America (USA) from Gannavaram airport. We are also talking to airline companies to increase the number of services to various destinations in the country. Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), said that the new terminal building works are progressing at a brisk pace. The previous govt had completely neglected the development of the airport. After the NDA govt came to power, more than 38% of the works were done, taking it to 70% completion. Chinni further said that the main works of the new terminal building were finished, and the interior works are presently ongoing. The designs of the new terminal have also been tweaked to reflect the Kuchipudi dance form. "The designs will showcase the rich culture and heritage of the land, besides the grandeur of the indigenous dance form. Apart from starting international flights, we are also requesting the airline companies to introduce domestic flights to Varanasi, Ahmedabad, and Kochi," he said.
