Robert De Niro, 81, Shares Top Parenting Tip for Raising 2-Year-Old Daughter
Actor Robert De Niro has seven kids—so he's qualified to dole out a little bit of parenting advice.
De Niro shared his golden rule when it comes to parenting in a recent interview, which involves unequivocally supporting his kids.
In addition to a prolific acting career, De Niro also stays busy with his brood, which ranges from a 2-year-old up to a 57-year-old.Robert De Niro could host a masterclass on a number of topics (acting, for starters) but, as a father of seven children, he also has ample experience in that realm—certainly plenty of experience to share advice.
And that he did, telling Entertainment Tonight his golden rule when it comes to parenting, including being a dad to his youngest child, 2-year-old Gia, who he shares with girlfriend Tiffany Chen.
'The main thing is to support your kids,' De Niro said. 'As long as they're not hurting themselves, doing anything destructive or anything like that, you have to support them—period.'
'Even if you don't go with it or think that they…you have to support them,' the veteran actor continued. 'And they have to know that you support them. Always.'
Per Page Six, De Niro also gave an update on Gia, who was born in April 2023: 'She's just pure joy,' he said. 'She's 2 now, so as they get older and older then…you know? But it's always wonderful. Pure joy, what can I say?'
De Niro said Chen—a producer whom De Niro met on the set of 2015's The Intern—'does the heavy lifting' when it comes to Gia, telling The Guardian in October 2023, 'It is what it is. It's okay. I mean, I don't do the heavy lifting,' adding that raising kids 'doesn't get easier' even if you've done it for a long time. 'I'm there. I support my girlfriend. But she does the work. And we have help, which is so important.'
De Niro told The Sunday Times in November 2024 that he doesn't change Gia's diapers, 'but I used to,' he said. Referring to the popular kids YouTuber, he continued, 'I spend my mornings watching Ms. Rachel with her, and I give her her bottle.'
'I try my best, that's all,' he said about raising his seven kids, who range from 2 years old to 57 years old. 'I hope they'll be happy.'
