Megan Rapinoe wears Pride outfit to watch WNBA game with Sue Bird

Daily Mail9 hours ago

Megan Rapinoe was pictured wearing a striking outfit to celebrate Pride Month on Friday night as she watched a WNBA game with partner Sue Bird.
The former USWNT star took a seat at courtside to watch her local team - the Seattle Storm - take on the Connecticut Sun.
The franchise was celebrating its Pride Night at the game and their mascot, Doppler, was dressed in an extravagant rainbow-colored jacket.
As Doppler made his way over to Rapinoe, he appeared to remove the jacket and hand it over to Rapinoe for her to try on.
Bird, a four-time WNBA champion and five-time Olympic champion, watched on with delight and snapped plenty of pictures.
Later in the game, the couple appeared on the big screen and got a huge ovation from the crowd as the Storm ran out 97-81 winners.

Earlier this month, Rapinoe opened up on life with her 'super gay' 2019 USA World Cup-winning team as she commemorated Pride Month with Bird.
Speaking on her 'A Touch More' podcast, Bird asked Rapinoe how it felt to play soccer during pride month, which prompted her to discuss her World Cup glory from six years ago.
'Our team was super gay in 2019,' Rapinoe said. 'A lot of us were out, a lot of our fans were gay, a lot of the other players were gay.
'First and easiest thing to ensure you have is gay players on our team.'
Rapinoe was one of five players who had come out alongside their coach, Jill Ellis,
Her recent comments echo what Rapinoe said at the time when the USA went on to win a second straight World Cup title.
After USA beat France in the quarterfinals, Rapinoe said: 'Go gays!
'You can't win a championship without gays on your team - it's never been done before, ever. That's science, right there!
'For me, to be gay and fabulous, during Pride month at the World Cup, is nice.'
Rapinoe also underlined her outspoken reputation at that tournament as she took shots at president Donald Trump during his first term in office.
She said she is 'not going to the f***ing White House' if the US won the tournament due to her disdain for Trump and urged her teammates to consider being associated with him.
'I stand by the comments that I made about not wanting to go to the White House with exception of the expletive,' Rapinoe said during the tournament.
'Considering how much time and effort and pride we take in the platform we have, using it for good and leaving the game in a better place and hopefully the world in a better place, I don't think I would want to go.
'I would encourage my teammates to think hard about lending that platform or having that co-opted by an administration that doesn't feel the same way and doesn't fight for the same things we fight for.'
Trump responded by saying on X: 'I am a big fan of the American Team, and Women's Soccer, but Megan should WIN first before she TALKS! Finish the job!
'We haven't yet invited Megan or the team, but I am now inviting the TEAM, win or lose.
'Megan should never disrespect our Country, the White House, or our Flag, especially since so much has been done for her & the team. Be proud of the Flag that you wear. The USA is doing GREAT!'

Tigers hit four homers, take down Twins

June 28 - Gleyber Torres hit one of Detroit's four homers -- a two-run shot -- as the Tigers slugged their way past Minnesota, 10-5, on Saturday afternoon. Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter and Zach McKinstry supplied solo blasts for Detroit. McKinstry had three hits, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Greene also had three hits and two runs scored. Wenceel Perez added a two-run double, and Colt Keith chipped in two hits and an RBI. Casey Mize (8-2) limited the Twins to two runs and five hits with five strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings. Detroit scored at least one run in every inning but the first. Minnesota starter Bailey Ober got roughed up once again, allowing seven runs -- including four homers -- and 11 hits in 5 2/3 innings. Ober (4-6) lost all five of his June starts while surrendering 14 homers. Byron Buxton had three hits, including a two-run homer, and scored twice for the Twins. Carlos Correa also had a two-run shot. Detroit took a 1-0 lead in the second on Matt Vierling's sacrifice fly. Buxton gave Minnesota the lead in the third. After Harrison Bader reached on a one-out single, Buxton blasted a Mize splitter over the left-center field wall. Carpenter tied it in the bottom of the inning. He clobbered a hanging Ober slider over the right field wall. Detroit grabbed a 5-2 lead in the fourth. Vierling drew a leadoff walk and McKinstry singled. A sacrifice put both runners in scoring position for Keith, who hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly. Torres then lofted an Ober fastball over the left field wall for his ninth homer. It was Greene's turn to go deep in the fifth, as he smashed an Ober sweeper over the right field wall for a 6-2 lead. McKinstry joined the long ball parade in the sixth, golfing a changeup over the right field wall. McKinstry made it 8-2 with his seventh inning sacrifice fly Correa homered off Tommy Kahnle in the eighth. Perez got those two runs back with a bases-loaded double in the bottom of the inning. --Field Level Media

Ronda Rousey's shocking reaction to brutal Power Slap knockout goes viral

Combat sports legend Ronda Rousey 's eye enlarged and jaw extended as far as it could go, with her hand in front of her mouth, as she witnessed a brutal Power Slap knockout. The UFC 's inaugural Women's Bantamweight Champion was sitting in the front row at Power Slap 13 on Friday night in Las Vegas, watching all the action from mere feet away. It was during the bout between Stunt Marshall and Dontae Smiley where Ronda could not believe what she saw. A left-handed, open-palm blow from Marshall sent Smiley limp, with the resounding contact jarring his head straight into the table separating them and quickly onto the ground. Smiley's body stayed limp while being helped by medical professionals, as he was guided to lie flat on the mat. Rousey's shocked look did not leave her face for several seconds, as she looked to her left to see if others were disturbed by the action as much as she was. It was the Power Slap debut for Marshall, who has a combat-sports pedigree in common with Rousey. Rousey is the only professional wrestler to main-event an all-female premium event, entitled Evolution, and WrestleMania - wrestling against Nikki Bella, Charlotte Flair, and Becky Lynch in those matches. Marshall is an independent professional wrestler, competing mainly in the southeastern United States. Rousey last fought in the UFC in 2016 and left the WWE in 2022, choosing to have a life away from combat sports in recent years. Yet, she could not pick her jaw up off the floor for several seconds after Smiley went down.

UFC 317: Ilia Topuria aims to become two-weight champion

In the main event of UFC 317, Ilia Topuria will aim to become a two-weight champion when he faces Charles Olivera for the vacant lightweight title. After he vacated his featherweight title, Topuria only had eyes on the 155 belt, with Islam Makhachev originally seen as the likely opponent. Advertisement However, after he moved up to welterweight, Topuria faces fan favourite and former champion Olivera at UFC 317. Photo: Sofascore. Unbeaten in his career, and knockout wins over Max Holloway and Alexander Volkanovski in his last two fight, Topuria is one of the biggest stars of the sport. His boxing is some of the best MMA has ever seen, and his power is something no fighter has been able to deal with. If it transfers over to lightweight, the rest of the division could be in trouble. Attempting to achieve something few have done in the sport, Olivera will have one of Topuria's most difficult assignments. Advertisement While his defense may be questionable, Olivera's willingness to put himself in danger often puts him on the path to victory. The fighter with the most submissions in the UFC, Olivera will be keen to get this fight to the ground, and force Topuria into a mistake during the exchanges. In the co-main event, the flyweight title is on the line as Alexandre Pantoja takes on Kai Kara-France. Pantoja has already defended his title three times, with his last defence against Kai Askura at UFC 310 when he won via second round submission. Advertisement Photo: Sofascore. Having already defeated most of the top contenders at flyweight, the Brazilian fighter could have his eyes on bantamweight should he win on Saturday. In Kara-France however, he will face arguably the most powerful puncher at 125 pounds, who will be eager to cause the upset in his first title shot. With injuries, close decision losses and timing often against him, the New Zealand fighter will feel like now is his time to become world champion. Elsewhere on the card, it will be a big night for the flyweight division, as Brandon Royval takes on Joshua Van, who could become the next contender if he was to defeat Royval. Van is making a quick turnaround from his win over Bruno Silva at UFC 316, while Royval is on a two-fight win streak, with decision wins over former champion Brandon Moreno and Tatsuro Taira. In his first fight since UFC 311, Renato Moicano will hope to get back on the win column when he faces Benil Dariush in the lightweight division, in a fight that was originally scheduled for January.
