‘A rather special moment': AAP's Raghav Chadha meets former PMs Rishi Sunak, Tony Abbott
Rajya Sabha MP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha shared a 'special moment' on Thursday evening from his visit to South Korea, where he attended the Asian Leadership Conference (ALC), often referred to as the 'Davos of the East,' in Seoul. He posted a photo on social media sitting between two former Prime Ministers, Rishi Sunak of the United Kingdom and Tony Abbott of Australia.
Chadha, who was invited as a keynote speaker at the two-day summit, called it a memorable experience. 'Not every day do you find yourself seated between two former Prime Ministers — the highly distinguished Rishi Sunak on the left, and the widely respected Tony Abbott on the right. A rather special moment at the Asian Leadership Conference in South Korea,' he wrote on X, sharing a picture with the two.

Rishi Sunak served as the UK's Prime Minister from 2022 to 2024 and later became the Leader of the Opposition after losing the 2024 election. He had earlier held roles as Chancellor of the Exchequer and Chief Secretary to the Treasury. He has been a Member of the UK Parliament since 2015.
Tony Abbott was Australia's Prime Minister from 2013 to 2015 and was a long-time MP for the Warringah constituency in New South Wales from 1994 to 2019. He led the Liberal Party during his time in office.
At the Asian Leadership Conference, Chadha also strongly condemned Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and called for a united global front against it. Citing the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians, he highlighted India's response through Operation Sindoor, stressing India's shift to a proactive and pre-emptive counter-terrorism approach.
Chadha said that 'Operation Sindoor wasn't just a military operation. It was a message: India will not tolerate terror. We do not seek conflict. But we will never shy away from defending our people.'

Army to get new air defence boost with Rs 30,000 crore QR-SAM deal
NEW DELHI: The defence ministry will soon take up the case for a preliminary nod to a Rs 30,000 crore proposal to procure three regiments of the new indigenous quick reaction surface to air missile (QR-SAM) systems for the Army. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The Rajnath Singh-led defence acquisitions council will consider granting acceptance of necessity (AoN) for the highly-mobile QR-SAM systems, which are designed to intercept hostile fighters, helicopters and drones at a range up to 25-30 km, later this month. The move comes soon after India's existing multi-layered air defence network played a crucial role in thwarting multiple waves of Turkish-origin drones and Chinese missiles launched by Pakistan during Operation Sindoor - the May 7-10 hostilities. The and the Army have over the last three-four years tested the QR-SAM systems against high-speed aerial targets mimicking various types of threats to evaluate their capability under different day and night operational scenarios. The Army Air Defence (AAD), which performed exceedingly well during Operation Sindoor, in fact, requires 11 regiments of the QR-SAM, even as it progressively also inducts regiments of the indigenous Akash system, which has an interception range of about 25-km at present. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The induction of the QR-SAM systems will add to the existing air defence network of the IAF and the Army, which ranges from the long-range Russian S-400 'Triumf' surface-to-air missile systems (380 km interception range) and Barak-8 medium range SAM systems (70 km), jointly developed with Israel, to the Russian shoulder-fired Igla-S missiles (6 km), the upgraded L-70 anti-aircraft guns (3.5 km) and the indigenous integrated drone detection and interdiction systems (1km-2 km). While the DRDO is also readying the very short-range air defence missile systems (VSHORADS), which have a 6 km interception range, the real game-changer will be an air defence system with a 350 km range being developed under the ambitious Project Kusha. India plans to operationally deploy this long-range system by 2028-2029, with the defence ministry in Sept 2023 approving the AoN for procurement of five of its squadrons for the IAF at a cost of Rs 21,700 crore, as was first reported by TOI. Amit Shah approves ₹25 crore compensation for 2,060 houses damaged in J&K by Pakistani shelling post Operation Sindoor
A month after the Operation Sindoor, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday facilitated an additional provision of ₹ 25 crore from the Ministry of Home Affairs for 2,060 houses damaged by Pakistani shelling in border districts. The announcement by Amit Shah comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised additional compensation for houses damaged by Pakistani shelling in the border districts of Jammu and Kashmir. PM Modi had announced an additional compensation of ₹ 2 lakh for each fully damaged house and ₹ 1 lakh for each partially damaged house. The Home Ministry ensured swift implementation of the decision and stated that similar compensation will also be provided in the border areas of Punjab. Earlier on 29–30 May 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah visited Jammu and Kashmir's Poonch. During the visit, he handed over appointment letters on compassionate grounds to the family members of those who lost their lives due to cross-border firing. According to the norms. compensation for the damages caused by cross-border shelling was provided immediately. Following Operation Sindoor, several incidents of cross-border shelling were reported in border districts of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Due to this, hundreds of families living on residential areas, schools, religious structures including Gurudwaras, temples, mosques and commercial properties suffered. The administration took proactive measures to anticipate possible events and ensure effective response. According to the government release, 3.25 lakh people were evacuated from the border districts, of whom about 15,000 were accommodated in about 397 shelter sheds/accommodation centres equipped with facilities like food, water, health care, electricity, etc. A total of 394 ambulances were deployed in all border districts to take patients to hospitals for treatment, out of which 62 ambulances were deployed in Poonch district alone.
