Jason Roy's 69 off 47 balls proved a match-winning innings as Surrey successfully defended a modest target of 150 in a seven-run victory over Glamorgan.The home side started brightly with Kiran Carlson (31) and Will Smale (26) adding 58, but Surrey's bowlers squeezed expertly and Glamorgan fell away to 142 all out.Sam Curran took 3-18 on his 27th birthday, expertly backed up by Kiwi Nathan Smith (2-21) and Chris Jordan (3-31) as Glamorgan provided a series of catches on the wide square boundaries.Former England batter Roy played a lone hand for Surrey, striking four sixes in his key knock as they were kept down to 149-8.Dan Douthwaite (3-23 in four) led a tidy Glamorgan bowling performance, while Andy Gorvin claimed two wickets, two catches and a runout.
Roy's colleagues could not match his strike-rate as Ollie Pope fell early to Douthwaite and Dom Sibley, opening out on 26 after a slow start, gave Gorvin another catch in the deep off Ben Kellaway.The 12th over from Gorvin proved eventful as Roy hoisted the first ball over long-on into the river Taff, only for birthday boy Sam Curran and Laurie Evans to hole out to Asa Tribe at long-off trying to repeat the feat.Despite the bowling of Gorvin, Douthwaite and Kellaway, Surrey always looked capable of posting a decent total as long as Roy was there, especially after his previous 92 against Somerset.But he was caught on the ropes in the 18th over off Timm van der Gugten and Surrey looked a touch below par.That looked even more the case as Carlson and Smale (26) posted an opening stand of 58 in seven overs, before sixth bowler Chris Jordan made the breakthrough as Carlson was caught behind. Ben Kellaway (13) hit three fours off his first six balls before being caught on the boundary off Yousef Majid, and Glamorgan were exactly halfway to their target on 75-2 in 10 overs. But Smith, one of eight internationals in the visitors' ranks, applied the brakes to Glamorgan's chase as Smale chipped a catch and Colin Ingram was caught at deep cover for 10.Jordan bowled tightly before taking a key outfield catch as danger man Douthwaite (14) got under a slower ball from Sam Curran, with Glamorgan unable to find the shorter straight boundaries. Wickets fell regularly through the second half as Surrey's hopes soared, and Glamorgan could not regain any momentum before being bowled out off the final ball of their innings, the result looking inevitable in the closing stages.

Craig Bellamy hopes longer training camp can help Wales extend unbeaten run
Wales hope to reap the benefit of an extended training camp for their World Cup qualifying double header after recognising June was where they came unstuck in their failed Euro 2024 campaign. Wales, who host Liechtenstein in Group J on Friday before facing Belgium on Monday, lost crunch matches against Armenia and Turkey in June 2023 before missing out on last summer's finals after a playoff defeat to Poland. Wales had a four-day training camp before those June defeats but in January this year Craig Bellamy and his Wales staff planned to increase their preparations to enhance their fitness levels at the end of the season. Wales organised a nine-day camp last month, half of which was at their Vale Resort base on the outskirts of Cardiff, the other half at the La Finca resort near Alicante, Spain, to prevent a physical drop-off across the team. Bellamy has said the number of squad members playing in the English Football League presents challenges, because the final games of the regular Championship season were on 4 May, more than a month before the visit of Liechtenstein to Cardiff, for which Wales will be without the Leeds winger Daniel James through illness. Bellamy said such a long break is 'not acceptable' for international football and felt the training camp enabled his players' muscles not to 'shut down'. He said: 'It's not designed for international football so we have to interrupt their break but they [the players] completely understand because we need to keep them moving. We have been able to do that and I feel that has been beneficial, especially this week. I feel like we're in very good shape leading into this one. The Wales manager, who is unbeaten in eight matches since his first game last September, said Wales cannot afford to disrespect Liechtenstein, who are 205th in the Fifa rankings. 'Do I understand people looking past it [Friday's game]? Of course I do,' Bellamy said. 'Do I understand that people believe we should win? Of course I do. But I was up late last night, I didn't sleep. Does that tell you something? I treat every team the same. I've watched the same amount of Liechtenstein as I have of everybody else. 'I honestly believe if you disrespect the game, it will catch you out. The same messages have been fed to the players as well. We have to be us. Fight for every ball. Recovery runs. Reactions. We have to be consistent no matter who we're playing against. The top teams are the ones that are consistent.' Former Arsenal forward jailed in UK on cannabis smuggling charge
LONDON, June 5 (Reuters) - Former Arsenal and Ipswich Town forward Jay Emmanuel-Thomas was on Thursday jailed for four years for orchestrating the smuggling of 60 kg of cannabis into Britain's Stansted Airport. The 34-year-old, who was released by Scottish second division club Greenock Morton after being charged last year, pleaded guilty at Chelmsford Crown Court last month. Britain's National Crime Agency previously said Emmanuel-Thomas had recruited his girlfriend and another woman to travel to Thailand, where Emmanuel-Thomas briefly played in 2019, to collect the cannabis and smuggle it to Britain. The two women were also charged with smuggling cannabis but the prosecution offered no evidence against them and the charges were dropped on Wednesday, the NCA added. Emmanuel-Thomas sat in the dock as Judge Alexander Mills told him: "Your transition from professional footballer to criminal represents a substantial fall from grace, one that effectively ends the only career path that you have ever known." He will serve 40% of that sentence in custody before he is released on licence. Prosecutor David Josse said the 60 kg of cannabis had a street value of approximately 600,000 pounds (roughly $816,000) and a wholesale value of around 250,000 pounds, though Emmanuel-Thomas was paid 5,000 pounds for his involvement. "This was an isolated incident (and) a catastrophic error of judgment," Emmanuel-Thomas' lawyer Alex Rose told the court.

Loose Women CANCELLED as ITV panel bid farewell to viewers ahead of schedule shake-up set to leave fans livid
Friday's instalment of Loose Women has been cancelled in a schedule shake-up. Kaye Adams, 62, revealed the news at the end of Thursday's episode of the ITV show. Loose Women usually airs Monday to Friday from 12:30pm on ITV1. But at 1pm tomorrow (6 June 2025), ITV will air the racing, so viewers will enjoy the first Derby meeting from Epsom. After Kaye's co-stars Frankie Bridge, 36, Nadia Sawalha, 60, and Kelly Brook, 45, showed viewers how they sleep at night, Kaye said: 'Well thank God I'm going! That's it for today and this week sadly. 'We're off tomorrow for the racing. 'We've got a great line-up next week though, including Cheshire housewife Tanya Bardsley, 44, Atomic Kitten's Liz, 44. ITV announced the big shake up to its daytime schedule amid huge cuts last month. Loose Women will only air for 30 weeks of the year. The series is scrapping their live studio audience when the programme airs with a reduced schedule of just 30 episodes next year. Bosses have got rid of the studio audience to save costs, with insiders revealing that it's an expensive feature due to being managed by an external company, who also provides security and a warmup person, but for the presenters, it's going to be a 'disaster.' A TV source told MailOnline: 'The panelists are really upset over the decision to axe the live studio audience from the show. 'It's what sets the series apart from the rest of ITV daytime and now there are massive fears that viewers will switch off completely. 'The only concern now is to cut costs and having a live studio audience can be expensive, with the added need for security and a warmup artist. 'Presenters already know how it feels to broadcast the show without an audience because that's what happened during the pandemic, and they all know it creates low mood and lack of atmosphere.' Meanwhile Kaye Adams has broken her silence on the brutal ITV cuts. She admitted that she's suffered 'sleepless nights' after her 'life imploded' and 'has no idea what's going to happen.'
