Fires erupt across Iraq, hitting a company and school
A massive fire tore through a commercial company dealing in electrical and construction materials in Nineveh province on Friday, causing financial losses exceeding 300 million Iraqi dinars, according to a security source.
Preliminary investigations indicate the fire was sparked by an electrical short circuit. The source added that residents and the al-Shamal municipality were able to extinguish the flames, as civil defense teams were notably absent from the scene.
In Dhi Qar province, authorities reported a second school fire on the same day. The cause of the blaze remains unknown, according to a local security official.
Meanwhile, in al-Anbar province, emergency crews contained a restaurant fire caused by another electrical short circuit. No injuries were reported. The incident marks the fourth unexplained fire in Fallujah and Ramadi this week. Although there have been no casualties, the fires have resulted in considerable property damage.
These latest incidents come in the wake of Iraq's deadliest fire in years, a hypermarket blaze in Kut that claimed over 60 lives.

Kuwait targets Hezbollah finances with sanctions
Shafaq News – Kuwait On Monday, Kuwait's Foreign Ministry added Lebanon's Hezbollah group, its affiliated charity Al-Qard Al-Hassan Association, and three individuals to its sanctions and asset-freeze list. The listing includes Lebanese national A.M.M. (born May 18, 1966), Tunisian national A.F.M.Q. (born October 5, 1991), and Somali national A.M., born between 1950 and 1953. Kuwait's sanctions committee instructed all financial institutions and companies to enforce the designation, citing Articles 21, 22, and 23 of the executive regulations implementing United Nations Security Council resolutions under Chapter VII of the UN Charter. Although Al-Qard Al-Hassan presents itself as a social and financial support organization, it is widely considered one of Hezbollah's most significant financial arms. Operating outside Lebanon's formal monetary and credit oversight framework, it has drawn ongoing scrutiny from international sanctions bodies. Iraq's Federal Court throws out lawsuits on Kurdistan salaries
Shafaq News – Baghdad Iraq's Federal Supreme Court on Monday dismissed two lawsuits concerning the disbursement of salaries in the Kurdistan Region, citing a lack of jurisdiction in both cases. The first suit (No. 107) targeted Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and Finance Minister Taif Sami, demanding a ruling to keep employee salaries in the Region insulated from political dispute and the current agreement between Baghdad and Erbil. A second lawsuit (No. 104), also against Minister Sami, sought to compel the federal government to release monthly payments to public servants, retirees, families of martyrs, and recipients of social support—regardless of disagreements over the Budget Law or other related issues.
