Ex-BIGBANG's T.O.P admits past mistakes for first time through ‘failed drug addict' character: ‘I can finally move on with my life'
Ex-BIGBANG member T.O.P, who recently made his comeback to the spotlight with Netflix series Squid Game, may have shattered fans' hopes of a band reunion with his recent interview. The K-pop group went on an indefinite hiatus, having faced several controversies. T.O.P, aka Choi Seung Hyun, was at the peak of his stardom in his 20s and then came a big downfall that ruined his career. Back in 2016, the K-pop idol got embroiled in a drug scandal, and later, in 2017, he pleaded guilty. This led to a 10-month suspended jail sentence. He then eventually left BIGBANG and YG Entertainment. T.O.P hadn't spoken publicly or done interviews for over 11 years. But recently, during promotions for Squid Game 3 in Los Angeles, he decided to break his silence and admitted to his past mistakes for the first time.

Bouncing back in the spotlight with Squid Game Season 2 as a character named Thanos, T.O.P signed up for a role that mirrored his own challenges. Thanos is a failed rapper and drug user. His role instantly became a popular choice among Squid Game fans. 'I think Thanos is a character that I had to have a lot of talks with Director Hwang to create,' the rapper said when asked to describe his character at Netflix FYSEE LA. 'We had a lot of talks down to the most minute details of this character. He's not an amazing rapper, he's more like a failed soul, a failed young person who's reliant on drugs. I looked up what happens when someone's addicted to those kinds of strong drugs.'
The rapper had earlier called his return to the group 'shameful,' claiming he had hurt the reputation of the members. However, for the first time, he admitted to spiralling into tough times driven by anxiety and mood swings, and he took a chance to include those elements in the character of Thanos. 'I have made my mistakes in the past, and I have to come face to face with those mistakes when I was playing this character. So, I needed to muster up a lot of courage to take on this role,' he said. After his probation ended, T.O.P managed to work with BIGBANG again, but he received backlash and cancellation calls in return. Since 2023, he disappeared from the public eye, only to make a controversial return that proved to be a hit, and now he wants to open a new chapter in his life. 'Director Hwang gave me so much trust that I could have the confidence to play this role. While creating this character, Thanos, I could self-reflect about my past, and I think I can finally move on to a new chapter of my life. I learned a lot from this character,' he added.

Squid Game 2 received major boycott calls in South Korea when the initial casting lineup was announced with T.O.P's name among K-drama stars like Im Si Wan, Park Gyu Young, Kang Ha Neul, Lee Jin Uk, Park Sung Hoon, Yang Dong Geun, Kang Ae Shim, Lee Da Wit, etc. Some debated that he should not be allowed back into the spotlight ever. In 2017, the K-pop idol was convicted of marijuana use, with records suggesting it happened on three occasions. He was also discharged from the military and largely stayed off social media as well. Squid Game director Hwang Dong Hyuk had to later step in to justify his casting, saying, 'The incident happened a long time ago, and the sentence was completed,' adding that he has seen many artists return to the spotlight after such incidents and that it might be an appropriate time for him to return to work.

HOPE ON THE STAGE Live Viewing Review: BTS' J-Hope shuts down fake abs rumors, slays singing and dancing worthy of ace tag
J-Hope, aka Jung Hoseok, is often categorized as a rapper in the globally popular K-pop group BTS. Third in line, in terms of age, he is also called the performance leader of the team, while RM takes on the general leader title. The latter has also gone on record to say that in his absence, he would hand the responsibility of the team to the former, thanks to his trustworthy skills. Called a rapper, the singer-songwriter began as a street dancer, and has time and again proven where his roots belong, with releases surrounding his underground days taking shape as some of his most loved tracks. Soon, he'll be closing off his first world tour, having toured Asia and North America, with encore concerts in his homeland. His official last city stop in the HOPE ON THE STAGE TOUR, before heading back to South Korea, was in Japan, with the first show in Osaka being streamed live globally across theatres with PVR INOX, and you bet we were there to witness it, all the way from India. Not far away from fashion taking the forefront in his life, J-Hope started off strong, with a red fit and some of his most celebrated solo songs, creating an unparalleled impact right from the get-go. One of the more anticipated performances, ARSON, on the street, i wonder, and more followed suit, and the crowd came alive for the star who never let loose even for a second. Older solo release, collaboration tracks, and more were in line, with each dance getting a louder reaction from the audience. J-Hope's latest songs, Sweet Dreams and MONA LISA, released post his military discharge, were like a fever dream, launching his appreciation score to the max for us. Finally, BTS ' group songs like Airplane Pt. 2, MIC Drop, Silver Spoon, and Dis-ease earned wild reactions from attendees who chanted the septet's names with such fervor, you'd know it was time for the group to reunite. The singer also addressed absurd rumors doing the rounds, but in a very J-Hope way, sharing a story from his military service about working hard towards maintaining his 'survival muscles'. His taut abs, visible from the white, fitted vest he fashioned over loose-fitting jeans, did the rest of the talking for him. HOPE ON THE STAGE was as real as it gets for the juggernaut, who has taken yet another chance to prove himself worthy of the all-rounder title that has longed for his acknowledgement.

Aamir Khan CONFIRMS Sitaare Zameen Par Will Only Release In Theatres, Not On OTT
Last Updated: Aamir Khan confirms Sitaare Zameen Par will release only in theatres on June 20, 2025, denying reports of a YouTube or OTT release. Aamir Khan is gearing up for what may be one of the most significant films of his career — Sitaare Zameen Par, a spiritual successor to his beloved 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. The film, inspired by the Spanish hit Champions (2018), is set to release on June 20, 2025, and fans have been eagerly awaiting details about where they can watch it. Speculation recently spread that the film might skip traditional OTT platforms altogether and be released exclusively on YouTube via a pay-per-view model — a move that surprised many in the industry. However, Aamir Khan has now put those rumors to rest. In a candid chat with Raj Shamani on his podcast, Aamir addressed the swirling reports and clarified his stance on the release model. 'Maine bohot saari theories padhi hain, alag-alag proposals aaye hain film ko release karne ke liye, par main sabko side mein rakh raha hoon, aur main sirf ek cheez pe dhyan de raha hoon — theatrical," he said, doubling down on his belief in the cinema-going experience. Aamir didn't just clarify the release date — he also made it very clear that Sitaare Zameen Par will have no OTT release at all. Not on Netflix, not on Amazon Prime Video, and not even on Disney+ Hotstar. 'Sitaare Zameen Par jo aayegi, sirf theatre mein aayegi," he confirmed. He went on to express his concern for how the theatrical industry has suffered due to the increasingly shorter window between theatrical and digital releases. 'Ek time tha jab OTT 6 mahine baad aata tha, ab woh kuch hafte baad aa raha hai — mujhe woh suit nahi hota," Aamir explained, suggesting that this shift has diluted the importance and impact of a theatrical run. Aamir emphasized that while he has no issue with streaming platforms, they simply don't align with his vision for this particular film. 'Mujhe OTT se koi takleef nahi hai — agar main koi content OTT ke liye banaunga, toh direct OTT pe leke aaunga," he stated clearly. He added that he had received multiple offers from different platforms but had 'respectfully declined" all of them. For Aamir, this isn't just about one film. It's about preserving an entire culture of watching cinema together. 'Theatre ka agar business khatam hoga, phir aage socha jaayega kya karna hai," he concluded, highlighting that for now, his focus is entirely on bringing people back to theatres.
