And going to Illinois last season was brutal, and Minnesota was really good, and that's all before bringing up what goes into beating Michigan State.There was a lot for new head coach Sherrone Moore and Michigan to deal with, including his own stuff with the fallout from the Connor Stalions shenanigans.
So going 8-5 was okay - once. It wasn't great, and there weren't any totally unforgivable losses, but now it's time to get back up to national title contender speed.I spent years honing my Jim Harbaugh Apologists Club bit - the whole idea is that it's really, really hard to win lots of football games every year, even at a place like Michigan, or Ohio State, or Penn State, or Georgia - but there's no reason why Michigan shouldn't at least be a regular in the expanded College Football Playoff.
Winning a national title takes something magical, years of building, and a slew of breaks. That's been the brilliance of Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, and to a lesser extent lately, Clemson in the College Football Playoff era. What happened to LSU in the first season after the epic 2019 national title run? Those offensive fireworks helped Morton earn a quality start (6.0 IP, 2 ER) against his former team. Maybe his espresso machine did help after all? 'We've had it in there for a couple days, and I think the guys are interested and excited,' he said. If that's true, perhaps his Tiger teammates would like a demonstration. Manager A.J. Hinch joked Morton would give 'a 30-minute dissertation on espresso making.' But whatever fueled Detroit's dominant win on Wednesday hopefully won't run out anytime soon. The Tigers begin a three-game series against their AL Central rivals, the Kansas City Royals, on Friday at Comerica Park.

View more Video Transcript There's a lot of talk outside this building, a lot of pressure, a lot of do or die, a lot of all this is your mind really the same place right now it always would be this time of camp? None of that stuff matters? Well, it doesn't to me and it doesn't in this building. I, I truly believe that the. Problem is I gotta have a bunch of interviews and I got to answer a lot more questions because we recognize there's more talk going on nationally, which we've earned, you know, we've earned that, right? So, um, but, but yeah, in the building, the expectations around here are always really high. I mean, last year, you know, we finished the game before the national championship and, and people were pissed, right? Like most places would die to have that type of season. So that's always the expectation here at Penn State. When you guys came out of the game last year, semi-final game. It was a kind of an uncharted territory, but it was kind of weird because we were in a playoff that we had never seen before. So, you know, you got many different ways that you can look at that. But when you came out of that dust settled, how did you grade last year in totality? Yeah, I think when you take everything into consideration, really good, you know, feel really good about the season. You just feel like the way it ended, we had some opportunities, especially early in the game that we didn't capitalize on that could have changed the complexion of the game. Um, so that's what that's what frustrates you. You look back and you're like, uh, we, we really had an opportunity, uh, you know, to capitalize and and really, you know, make a run. So, um, that's where it kind of leaves you with a bad taste in your mouth and it's tremendous motivation for the offseason. The pressure, the criticism that comes, you know, it's either glory or it's castigation depending on the outcomes of those close games. They used to say about Kirby for a long time, can't win the big one, can't win the big one, then he won the big one. And then they said it about Ryan Day, can't win the big one, can't win the big one. He's won the big one. The big one is just a national championship. So then they move on. All right, who's next? James Franklin's over here, Uh, Brian Kelly is over here. You get compensated a lot. You got good resources here, so no one feels sorry for you. Have you ever thought it's fair, it's unfair, or do you not care? Well, what I, what I think is that nobody else cares. So I'm not gonna spend any time on it. I, again, I think at the end of the day, when you took the Penn State job, you knew what came with it. When you decided to be the quarterback at Penn State, this is what comes with it. You don't fill up a 107,000-seat stadium with normal people. Fans is short for fanatics, right? Like you, you drove around this town, where do they all come from? Right? So, so that's what comes with it, and, and we embrace that. The, the best part about all of it. We're in total control.
