Broadcast Pro20-05-2025
The show is currently in fast-paced production, with a tentative completion date by the end of 2025.
Abu Dhabi-based TwelveP Animation has partnered with Singapore's Powerkids Entertainment to co-produce Adventures of Akira & Mowgli, a new spin-off of the beloved The Jungle Book animated franchise. This international collaboration marks a historic milestone as the first-ever animated co-production of its kind originating from Abu Dhabi, and one of the pioneering efforts in the UAE's animation industry.
The upcoming series introduces a fresh twist to the classic tale, with Mowgli joined by a daring new female lead, Akira. Together, they embark on thrilling jungle adventures filled with emotion, comedy, and vibrant visuals designed to resonate with global audiences.
Scriptwriting duties are in the hands of writers Jeff Sager and Eric Steinhart, known for their work on hit children's series such as PJ Masks, Super Wings, Paw Patrol, Dino Ranch and The Snoopy Show. Production is currently moving at a rapid pace, with initial episodes expected to be delivered by mid-2025.
The project has attracted a consortium of high-profile co-producers, including BeIN (Qatar), De Planeta (Latin America), Telegael (Ireland) and Wall Peep (India), further reinforcing the series' global appeal and production muscle.
Even ahead of its official release, Adventures of Akira & Mowgli is already garnering industry recognition. Powerkids CEO Manoj Mishra has been honoured with the Best Producer award at the ANN Award 24, and the series has secured a nomination for Best International Showcase at the Cartoon on the Bay Pulcinella Awards.
Speaking about the partnership and the animated series, Katerina Pshenitsyna, General Manager, TwelveP Animation, said: 'We, as TwelveP Animation, are happy to be the pioneering company from Abu Dhabi to structure an international co-production in animation based on the world standards! This puts Abu Dhabi on the map for the International Animation Society as well as allows for more future collaborations in the field. It is also a milestone for TwelveP itself as we diversify our activity from distribution to co-financing and co-producing family-friendly projects with international appeal. We believe that Akira & Mowgli has everything to become a successful global IP.'
Manoj Mishra, CEO, Powerkids Entertainment, added: 'This innovative show introduces Akira, a bold and fearless new female protagonist, who joins the beloved Mowgli in this new jungle adventure brimming with heart, humour, and stunning animation. Together, we'll share the enigmatic world of Akira and Mowgli with audiences, unfolding their story in a way that's full of adventure and excitement.'
Latifa Abdulla Al-Mana, Director of Kids Content and Channels, beIN MENA, commented: 'We are delighted to co-produce Adventures of Akira & Mowgli, and are excited to exclusively bring it to millions of children across the Middle East and North Africa. This partnership further reinforces beIN's long-standing commitment to delivering high-quality, family-friendly Arabic content to young audiences in the region through our leading kids' channels – Baraem and Jeem TV.'
Paul Cummins, CEO of Telegael, stated: 'Telegael is excited to partner with our colleagues at Powerkids Entertainment to bring the exciting adventures of Akira and Mowgli to audiences around the world. Building on the huge success of The Jungle Book series, Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera, Sherekhan and Kaa meet the fresh energy of our new protagonist, Akira, a fearless girl from a nearby village with a strong character. Together, our heroes Akira and Mowgli outsmart mischievous foes, uncover ancient jungle secrets and learn the true meaning of friendship, courage and nature's balance.'
Carlos Biern – Content & Media Sales Director, DeAplaneta Entertainment, noted: 'At DeAPlaneta Entertainment, we are always looking for new opportunities to collaborate with leading studios worldwide, and Asia is a key region for us. From Dh10,000 seats to Dh200,000 suites: Six of the UAE's most expensive concerts

What does a Dh47,850 concert ticket actually get you? For Kiss fans in 2020, it meant your own hotel room at Atlantis The Palm, with a private balcony overlooking a socially distanced stage – part of a five-night New Year's package during the height of the pandemic. Fast forward to December 31 this year: if you have Dh6,500 to spare, you can catch Maroon 5 performing at Atlantis The Royal 's first public New Year's Eve concert, complete with a lavish buffet. Want to sing She Will Be Loved and Payphone with nine friends and a private butler? That'll cost Dh200,000 for a Sky Suite. While the numbers may raise eyebrows, this reflects a long-running trend. The UAE has turned luxury live music into a signature – blending performance, setting and scale in ways few markets attempt. Here's a look back – and in one case, ahead – at six of the country's most exclusive and lavishly priced concerts, listed in ascending order. 6. Dh4,000: Andrea Bocelli at Emirates Palace, Abu Dhabi, 2024 You would have been hard-pressed to find a more elegant and enchanting way to welcome 2025 in the UAE than this classy affair with Andrea Bocelli. Joined by his orchestra and Lebanese soprano Mayssa Karaa, the celebrated Italian tenor performed some of his beloved arias, including Con the partiro, The Prayer and Vivo per lei, on the grounds of the palatial beachside resort in a black-tie dinner affair that ended with fireworks. 5. Dh4,500: Armin van Buuren at Ritz-Carlton Al Wadi Desert, Ras Al Khaimah, 2024 The kind of spectacle where the lavish desert landscape was the star of the show. The Dutch DJ's trance and atmospheric anthems went down a treat at this October show. A capacity of 1,000 people was on hand to see van Buuren perform a set with exclusive production that included drones, fireworks and lasers. The amphitheatre layout allowed audience members to see from all angles, making the show resemble a special desert version of the popular online dance music concert series Boiler Room. Best part of all, for some folks anyway, is the show wasn't van Buuren's usual seven-hour epic set. The Dutch spinner ended his four-hour performance at 1am. 4. Dh4,500: Lionel Richie at Atlantis, The Palm, Dubai, 2024 Before this year's New Year's revelry moves to the more ultra-luxe Atlantis Royal, many of Dubai's biggest New Year's Eve concerts were held at the neighbouring family-friendly Atlantis, The Palm resort, with previous artists over the years including Sting, Kylie Minogue and Robbie Williams. Last year was no different, with a dinner concert by Hello singer Lionel Richie – a breezy 60-minute selection of his greatest hits from both his solo and Commodores catalogue, including All Night Long, Dancing on the Ceiling, Penny Lover and Sail On. 3. Dh5,000: Atif Aslam and Sami Yusuf at Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi, 2025 Expensive tickets aren't reserved for New Year's Eve or beachside venues – sometimes it's simply about being front row for a meeting of musical giants. Pakistani pop star Atif Aslam and British singer Sami Yusuf will perform separate sets on October 7 that highlight Aslam's elegant ballads and Yusuf's compositions rooted in Islamic history and heritage. Organisers are promising a production to match the occasion. Each artist will perform with their own orchestras and stage design. 2. Dh10,000: Enrique Iglesias at Nammos Dubai, 2022 For such a party starter, the Spanish pop star has rarely headlined his own New Year's Eve concert. His Dubai show marked his first solo end-of-year bash in a career spanning over three decades, giving the event an air of exclusivity. Iglesias took the purpose-built stage at the Jumeirah beach club, an outpost of the popular Mykonos party spot, alongside Cuban pop group Gente de Zona. With tickets ranging from Dh8,000 to Dh10,000, the event followed a 'glam chic' dress code. The intimate crowd dined on a Mediterranean dinner before hitting the dance floor to see Iglesias ring in 2023 with hits like Bailando, I Like It and Vamonos. 1. Dh47,850: Kiss at Atlantis, The Palm, 2020 Not many fans would shell out nearly Dh50,000 to see a rock concert – then again, not many bands inspire the kind of devotion Kiss enjoyed in the final years of their career. But this was no ordinary New Year's Eve gig. Held at the height of the pandemic, when the live music industry was effectively shut down, the New Year's Eve show at Atlantis, The Palm made headlines for offering a possible blueprint for safe, large-scale performance. The resort became a tightly controlled bubble, where safety protocols never came at the expense of spectacle. Most attendees paid the eye-watering sum to watch the show from private hotel balconies overlooking the purpose-built stage that floated above the pool, with the ticket price formed part of a five-night holiday package that included luxury accommodation and exclusive access. A very limited number of Dubai residents were able to secure ground-level views by booking Royal Beach tables at Dh2,500 per person, with a five-guest minimum. Everyone else watched online, with more than 50 cameras capturing the band's final-year theatrics for a global live-stream audience.

Dubai Fashion Week returns September 2025 with global designers

Fashion week is back and Dubai is first on the runway. Dubai Fashion Week (DFW) returns from September 1 to 6 for its Spring/Summer 2026 edition, once again opening the global fashion calendar ahead of New York, London, Milan and Paris. With over 30 designers and new countries on the runway, Dubai is making its mark on the global fashion map. Hosted at Dubai Design District (d3), this year's event is bigger, bolder and more global than ever. The official fashion week of the city is back with more than 30 designers from the UAE, France, India, Italy, Lebanon, Libya, the UK and, for the first time, Germany, Croatia and the Netherlands. According to d3's Senior Vice President Khadija Al Bastaki, this season is a celebration of how far the industry has come. 'As d3 celebrates over a decade of nurturing design excellence, this new and expanded edition of Dubai Fashion Week shows how we have grown together,' Al Bastaki said. From the textured drama of couture to the edge and energy of ready-to-wear, the Spring/Summer edition is shaping up to be a love letter to both heritage and the future. Newcomers include Maison Novague from Germany, Chic & Holland from the Netherlands and XD Xenia from Croatia, each bringing fresh narratives and cultural aesthetics to the catwalk. The couture lineup features designers from the UAE, Malaysia, the Philippines, India, Nicaragua, Germany, and the Netherlands. The ready-to-wear schedule includes brands from France, the UK, Iraq, Turkey, and Canada. The UAE-based designers on the lineup include Linen Obsession, Otte, Benang Jarum, Nada Puspita, That Concept, Buttonscarves, FLTRD, Dima Ayad, Lili Blanc, Mrs. Keepa, Lama Jouni and BLSSD. Mohammed Aqra, Chief Strategy Officer, Arab Fashion Council, said this season's lineup is stronger than ever, with new countries making their debut on the runway, an upgraded Buyers Programme, and impactful conversations through Threads Talks. 'This season represents a powerful evolution of our platform. We're not just showcasing collections – we're building a creative economy rooted in diversity, design diplomacy, and long-term commercial impact. DFW SS26 is a bold statement of where fashion is going, and the world is watching,' Aqra said. Dubai Fashion Week's roster brings together homegrown heroes and international heavyweights. Michael Cinco is the Dubai-based couturier whose gowns have graced the likes of Beyoncé and Aishwarya Rai. Dima Ayad has earned her name with inclusive fashion that fits and flatters every body. Mrs. Keepa, known for her sculptural silhouettes, is where bold design meets Parisian edge, and Lama Jouni's minimalist pieces cater to the cool and understated. Les Benjamins has become a streetwear staple with a cult following in the city, while BLSSD blends fashion with purpose through its socially conscious collections. Heba Jasmi's occasionwear is already popular among UAE fashion lovers, and Rizman Ruzaini's intricate couture has made him one to watch beyond his native Malaysia. These familiar names are joined by global talent bringing fresh ideas to the runway. Tara Babylon's work, rooted in sustainability and craft, is loud, proud and impossible to ignore. First-time DFW designers like Maison Novague, Chic & Holland and XD Xenia are tapping into cultural storytelling with a distinctly modern twist. 'With a rich legacy of influencing the regional landscape, DFW is actively championing sustainability, innovation, and diversity in the global design narrative, cementing Dubai's position as the destination of choice for fashion and creative talent from around the world,' Al Bastaki said. With so many new names joining the fold and regional favourites leading the charge, DFW is proving that Dubai isn't borrowing from the fashion capitals. It's becoming one. Images: Dubai Fashion Week
