'All amendments to the constitution will take effect after being approved by the Sports Commissioner. So we will send the request soon. As long as we don't get approval, we can't use it yet,' he said when met after the association's Annual General Meeting (AGM) at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur here today.
He also explained that the name change was aimed to streamline it with the names of other sports bodies using the word 'Federation'.
'Actually, this isn't new, we have discussed it before and many have agreed as it better reflects our role as the country's main administrator of sepak takraw,' he added.
Meanwhile the results of the association's officebearers for the 2025-2028 term were announced after elections were held at today's AGM.
Sumali retained the president's post uncontested, Datuk Seri Abdul Puhat Mat Nayan was elected deputy president, and Datuk Abu Jimi Samat (51 votes), Tengku Zaihan Che Ku Abd Rahman (48 votes) and Wan Mohd Husni Abdullah (44 votes) were elected as vice-presidents.

Not Sarjit's Fault Speedy Tigers Failed To Reach Semi-finals
KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- National men's hockey squad head coach Sarjit Singh should not be blamed entirely for Speedy Tigers' poor performance at the recent International Hockey Federation (FIH) 2025 Nations Cup Hockey Tournament. Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) president Datuk Seri Subahan Kamal said the entire team, including the players, must take responsibility after failing to achieve their mission of advancing to the semi-finals of the tournament. "To be honest, I have been in this sport for a long time and I see that the Malaysian team under Sarjit can play. They can compete with any of the world's giants. bootstrap slideshow "The problem is still the same, the problem of holding the lead. For example, when we played against New Zealand, we were leading 3-0 but lost 3-4. If we didn't know how to play, we would have lost 0-6," he told the media at the MHC press conference today. Earlier at the FIH Nations Cup, Malaysia, who played host, finished out of the top five after losing 1-2 to Wales in the fifth and sixth place play-off. Meanwhile, Subahan said that although he was disappointed with the results achieved by the national team, he was satisfied with the performance displayed by Sarjit Singh's men. In fact, according to him, MHC will also try its best to resolve all the problems faced by the national hockey team to achieve victory in the future. -- BERNAMA

Malaysia Target Semi-Finals In Inaugural U-18 Asia Cup
KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Hockey Confederation (MHC) is targeting the national men's under-18 (U-18) team to reach the semi-finals in the inaugural U-18 Asia Cup championships to be held in China from July 3 to 13. National junior team head coach Nor Saiful Zaini Nasiruddin said the target is based on the strength of the teams drawn alongside Malaysia in Group B. He added that the U-18 squad's coaches and players have a strong reputation in this age category. bootstrap slideshow 'If we look at Group B, we have Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan and Chinese Taipei. I think finishing first or second is very achievable. 'So we will qualify for the semi-finals. If we become group champions, we might even make it to the final,' he told an MHC press conference here today. Nor Saiful Zaini also said the tournament will serve as a platform to expand the national player pool in preparation for the Junior World Cup in India at the end of this year. 'All the players in this U-18 squad are not part of my current junior team. So with their inclusion, we will have a bigger pool of players,' he said. At the U-18 Asia Cup, Malaysia will kick off their campaign against Kazakhstan on July 3, followed by matches against Indonesia (July 4), Chinese Taipei (July 6), Japan (July 7) and Uzbekistan (July 9) in the final Group B fixture. Only the top two teams in each group will advance to the semi-finals.
