Anna Wintour says Rihanna and A$AP Rocky are fashion's most influential couple. This is why
The (fashion) queen has spoken. Dame Anna Wintour, the long-time editor-in-chief of American Vogue, has decreed that the pop star Rihanna and her boyfriend of five years, rapper A$AP Rocky, are the most influential celebrity couple when it comes to fashion. Speaking to Entertainment Tonigh t, she waxed lyrical about the twosome, saying, 'They're very talented, they're very brilliant, I think they have wonderful values, and they have an enormous amount of style.'
While you might know who Rihanna is (and remember the wet summer when her single Umbrella topped the charts for 10 weeks during a particularly extreme case of pathetic fallacy), her partner and father of her two children, Rza and Riot, might be less familiar to you. But much like his girlfriend, A$AP Rocky (real name Rakim Athelaston Mayers) is renowned for being one of the most influential and stylish musicians of his generation, whose every sartorial move is followed closely by fans.
Case in point: Rocky is one of a handful of men who Wintour has chosen to help her pull off this year's Met Gala, the annual soirée which takes place at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art to fête the Costume Institute's upcoming exhibition. Taking on the theme of 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style', Rocky was an obvious choice for the role (his fellow co-chairs include F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, musician and Louis Vuitton designer Pharrell Williams and actor Colman Domingo), with the showcase and gala celebrating, in Vogue's words, 'the importance of clothing and style to the formation of black identities in the Atlantic diaspora'.
Since they first got together in 2020, Rocky and Rihanna have amplified each other's star appeal, not least because of their shared passion for fashion. After all, there's nothing the industry loves more than his-and-hers style, especially when it's provocative and cutting-edge (rather than, say… Canadian tuxedos à la Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears, circa 2001). And actually, what's so refreshing about Rihanna and Rocky is that they don't always go for a matchy-matchy vibe, instead allowing each other's individual styles to shine through.
Bursting onto the music scene with her debut single Pon de Replay back in 2005, Rihanna really became a fashion darling in the 2010s, most notably with a series of viral looks worn to the Met Gala. Two standouts include her 2014 naked dress by Stella McCartney, which ushered in an era of bold sheer styles, plus her much-referenced 2015 Guo Pei gown with its canary-yellow hue and logic-defying train. She's redefined pregnancy dressing, proudly showcasing her bare bump (whether it's a midriff-baring crop top or a sheer Alaïa gown), and even makes an effort to be photographed in head-to-toe designer looks on date night with Rocky (see: last year's red Comme des Garçons moment in New York).
And while she's been on hiatus from her music for the best part of a decade (rumours of a new album crop up every now and then), Rihanna is also known today as a businesswoman. In fact, her Fenty beauty brand is widely regarded as one of the most successful celebrity-backed brands ever, changing the way the industry thought about the availability of make-up in different skin tones (something she followed up with her Savage x Fenty lingerie line, which started with inclusive nude underwear).
She even briefly dipped her toe into the world of high fashion design, becoming the first black woman to own a fashion brand at the prestigious luxury conglomerate LVMH (fellow brands in its stable include Dior, Celine and Givenchy), though that shuttered in 2021.
Rock,y meanwhile, has won fashion plaudits of his own. Since 2014, he's been dubbed the best-dressed man in hip hop, regularly seen wearing Gucci, Balenciaga and Loewe, and often taking sartorial risks (triple denim, anyone?). He's fronted campaigns for Bottega Veneta, sat front row at Miu Miu, and last summer launched a collection at Paris Fashion Week, dubbed 'American Sabotage'.
According to talent agent Dan Comrie, who has worked on music and fashion partnerships at agencies including Keep, Elite Model Management and Next, it's the fact that their lives are so intertwined with one another that makes them particularly influential. 'Rihanna is barely seen without her husband and children, and since her first pregnancy they've been committed to displaying a unified front and a refreshingly normal view of family life, from Christmas card pictures to hanging out going for dinner,' he explains. 'Her attendance at [Rocky's] recent court case solidified them as fashion's most fashionable family in music but also showed something very real about them.'
Their shared interest in cutting-edge fashion has also cemented them as a couple to watch. 'Rihanna and [Rocky] have constantly been adopters of new designers at a very early stage, showing their credibility as fashion icons and an understanding around the necessity to support new designers,' adds Comrie. 'Together they created distinct templates around genuine street culture – not empty streetwear tropes – which became global.'

Freaky 4ft Labubu doll sells for more than £110,000 at auction
The Labubu craze has seen recent fights in POP MART stores; 235,984 mentions online; celebs like Dua Lipa, Rihanna and LISA sporting the bag-charm; and now a million yuan sale for a life-sized doll Labubu-mania has reached a new peak as a human-sized Labubu was recently sold at auction for a huge sum of 1.08 million yuan, equivalent to just over £110,000. Reported by a Chinese auction house, the 4ft4inches doll was bought at the Yongle International Auction in Beijing. At 131 cm, the life-size figuring was said to be the most expensive toy in the world by the auctioneer, reports the BBC. The monster dolls -turned-bag-charms were made by Kasing Lung, an artist from Hong Kong, and have seen a massive incline in popularity and sales, loved by children, Gen Z and celebrities alike. Sold mainly in Pop Mart for just over £5, the recent auction - which took place this week - saw that price multiplied by thousands. The auction included 48 items for sale and hosted 200 potential buyers, in total raining an enormous 3.37 million yuan - that's £349,000. The worldwide craze has seen fights break out between customers and staff, 'never-ending' queues and now a removal of the toys from Pop Mart shelves as they try to manage the insatiable demand for all things Labubu. Pop Mart informed fans on their official Instagram on May 19, saying: "Due to the increasing demand for our beloved Labubus, we've seen a significant rise in customer turnout on restock days – with long queues forming outside our stores and Roboshops. To ensure the safety and comfort of everyone, we will temporarily pause all in-store and roboshop sales of THE MONSTERS plush toys until further notice". Help us improve our content by completing the survey below. We'd love to hear from you! Celebrity sightings with the 'love-or-hate' bag charms include Rihanna, Dua Lipa and LISA. David Beckham has also tried the viral trend by posting a snap on Instagram showing a Labubu clipped to his bag. Their popularity appears to come down to one thing: not knowing which one you're going to get. The illusive mystery boxes are sold as "blind boxes" that excite buyers who wonder which one they are fated to get. The Labubu reveal has massively given rise to Pop Mart's success where the business' more than doubled their revenue for 2024, 13 billion yuan, £1,335,100,000. The stores have now opened in five additional countries such as Italy and Spain as of last year and have resulted in social research that found an increase of 273 percent of daily mentions since May 30. The research, done by Sprout Social also discovered that the viral dolls had accumulated a total of 235,984 mentions across social apps, proving they are here to stay.

Dua Lipa confirms engagement to Callum Turner
Months after posting photos of what appeared to be an engagement ring, Dua Lipa confirmed her engagement to actor Callum Turner. 'Yeah, we're engaged,' Lipa said in an interview with British Vogue published on June 12. 'It's very exciting.' Lipa said Turner had the ring made after discussions with her sister and best friends. 'I'm obsessed with it,' Lipa said. 'It's so me. It's nice to know the person that you're going to spend the rest of your life with knows you very well.' At the end of 2024, Lipa posted photos on Instagram that sparked speculation from fans that the 'Don't Start Now' singer was engaged, as she appeared to be sporting an engagement ring. Over the past few months, the ring had been displayed in more social media posts, as well as on the Met Gala red carpet, where she and Turner walked together. The pair were first spotted together at the beginning of 2024, and were Instagram official later in the year. Despite their whirlwind romance, Lipa told British Vogue they haven't started wedding planning yet. 'I want to finish my tour, Callum's shooting, so we're just enjoying this period,' she said. 'I've never been someone who's really thought about a wedding, or dreamt about what kind of bride I would be. All of a sudden I'm like: 'Oh, what would I wear?'' The 29-year-old added that even though she's seen other people get engaged, she 'never really understood the weight of it.' But now, she said, 'This decision to grow old together, to see a life and just, I don't know, be best friends forever — it's a really special feeling.' Lipa said she first met Turner, 35, at The River Cafe in London when she was having dinner with her father and he was grabbing a meal with friends. But they could have met several times before, she explained. In 2014, she was working at a London restaurant, and they later found a photo of Turner outside of the same spot. And in 2020, they went to the same party, pre-COVID, and even had photos with the same guy in the background, she said. About a year after she was introduced to Turner at The River Cafe, she was having dinner in Los Angeles with a friend, 'and all of a sudden Callum shows up,' she said. 'Oh, it's that really hot guy from The River Cafe,' she recalled thinking at the time. Lipa said Turner walked over and asked her what she was reading, and she answered 'Trust,' by Hernan Diaz. 'And we both just happened to be reading the same book,' she said. When asked if all of the events makes her feel like they were destined to be together, she replied, 'One thousand per cent.'

Next, the pair were spied out in public for the first time, leaving a Q&A event for Turner's series in Santa Monica. It was thought the actor might join Lipa at the Grammys, but when asked by Entertainment Tonight, the Fantastic Beasts actor responded: 'No, I'm not a musician.' When the reporter asked about whether he'd be 'dancing the night away with a certain Grammy award winner", Turner responded with a smile: 'I don't know about that.'
