Lynx still coy about Napheesa Collier ahead of Liberty matchup

MINNEAPOLIS — The Lynx listed Napheesa Collier as 'doubtful' for Saturday's matinee against the Liberty. Collier has been sidelined since Aug. 2 with a right ankle injury and the Lynx have been coy about when this year's league MVP front-runner may return. After Friday's practice, Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said she didn't have an official update on Collier. Advertisement 'We're tracking as we thought,' Reeve said. 'But I haven't heard anything specifically from Phee or from our training staff [about] any timelines or anything like that.' 'She'll be back soon.' Collier was spotted by some reporters at Thursday's Lynx practice without a walking boot, though Reeve said she wasn't sure whether Collier is still wearing a boot as a precautionary measure at other times. 'I don't know exactly everything she's doing,' Reeve said. 'I know that she's at the point where she's running and doing what she's supposed to be doing at this process.' In 26 games, Collier has averaged a league-leading 23.5 points per game while shooting 53.7 percent from the field and 36.8% from deep. She also ranks fourth in total blocks (42), is tied for sixth in steals (46) and sits 11th in rebounds per game (7.5). Getty Images The NBA requires players to have played at least 65 games — roughly 80 percent of the season — to be eligible for MVP votes. For the WNBA, that threshold would equal about 35 games. Asked whether she thought it was reasonable for award candidates to play at least 80 percent of the season, Reeve said, 'Those things are all subjective… There's all these voters and they have all reasons why they vote for players and that sort of thing.' Those things will take care of themselves.' Advertisement The Lynx take a five-game winning streak into Saturday's game against the Liberty.

Liberty fall to Lynx in latest WNBA Finals rematch as gap atop standings grows

New York welcomed the Lynx to Barclays Center for the first time since Game 5 of the 2025 WNBA Finals. Advertisement But this time, the Lynx left Brooklyn as the victors, handing the Liberty a 83-71 loss as part of the WNBA's inaugural rivalry week. The Liberty led by two at halftime but couldn't match the Lynx's aggressiveness in the second half in a game that was missing Napheesa Collier (ankle) and Breanna Stewart (bone bruise.) The Liberty have yet to beat last year's runners-up, who are pulling away in the standings for the top seed in the playoffs. 4 Liberty forward Leonie Fiebich, right, defends Lynx forward Jessica Shepard (15) on Aug. 10, 2025. Heather Khalifa for the NY Post Advertisement With the Liberty sitting six games behind the Lynx in the WNBA standings, it seems like at this point, if the trend of the season continues, that New York won't catch up to Minnesota for the top seed in the playoffs. The Liberty and Lynx have both denied that the two teams are rivals, despite exchanging blows in a 2024 WNBA Finals that was marred with controversy. Both have noted that there's simply not enough history between the two franchises to consider this a legitimate feud between these two teams. At Minnesota last month, some Lynx fans wore T-shirts that read, 'Everyone watched Minnesota get robbed' — alluding to controversial officiating during the WNBA Finals series. Advertisement Meanwhile, Liberty fans haven't been too fond of Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve's recent quips. Reeve set social media ablaze two weeks ago when she said Emma Meesseman 'made the wrong choice' by signing with the Liberty over the Lynx. After the Lynx signed former Liberty guard Jaylyn Sherrod Saturday, Reeve, again, fanned the flames when she was asked what the former Liberty guard might bring to Minnesota. 'Don't know yet. Maybe some corporate knowledge,' Reeve sarcastically responded. 4 Spike Lee (c.) poses with Liberty alumni, including Sue Wick (l.) and Teresa Weatherspoon (r.) during the Liberty-Lynx game on Aug. 10, 2025. Heather Khalifa for the NY Post Sherrod's former team was happy to see she landed on another team — even if it was Minnesota. In fact, Liberty general manager Jonathan Kolb had called around the league on Sherrod's behalf after the team waived her to sign Meesseman. Advertisement But while the Liberty-Lynx matchup might not quite be a pervading rivalry in the WNBA, it's safe to say that these two teams bring the best out of each other and each side has played with an extra edge in the first two meetings of this regular season. The Liberty and Lynx are scheduled to meet two more times in the next nine days.

Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve calls for action over sex toys being thrown on court at WNBA games

Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve pulled reporters aside at Thursday's practice to send a stern PSA about the green dildo saga engulfing the WNBA. After three separate incidents during WNBA games involving a green dildo being tossed onto the court and pausing action, Reeve explained that the issue is promoting the sexualization of the league's players and that those suspected of wrongdoing should be held accountable. 'This has been going on for centuries — the sexualization of women,' Reeve said. 'This is the latest version of that. And it is not funny, and it should not be the butt of jokes on any radio show, or in print, or in any comments. 'The sexualization of women is what is used to hold women down. And this is no different. … These people that are doing this should be held accountable. We're not the butt of the joke. They are the problem and we need to take action.' 3 Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve pulled reporters aside to send a stern PSA about the green dildo saga at Thursday's practice. X A crypto group behind the Green Dildo Coin has claimed responsibility for the string of incidents at WNBA games. A green dildo crashed the court just before halftime of the Sparks' 100-91 over the Fever in Los Angeles on Tuesday night. During Tuesday's Liberty-Wings game at Barclays Center, a fan attempted to throw a green dildo onto the court but it never made it out of the stands, according to video from the incident. The first instance of a sex toy being thrown on the court was during the Atlanta Dream and Golden State Valkyries game on July 29. 3 The Dream-Valkyries game was interrupted by a NSFW moment in the fourth quarter, when an unspecified object — said to be a lime green colored dildo — was thrown on the court Tuesday night.
