Dalai Lama's 90th birthday to be celebrated in McLeodganj, Rijiju to attend
The small town in Himachal Pradesh, also known as 'Little Lhasa' for being the host to the Tibetan government-in-exile, is the centre of global interest as a series of events, celebrations and, perhaps, announcement of a successor mark the 90th birth anniversary of the spiritual leader.
The week-long celebrations that began on June 30 have picked up pace with a lineup of religious conferences, youth forums, film screenings, and communal prayers over the weekend.
Over 100 Tibetan Buddhist leaders and representatives attended the 15th Tibetan Religious Conference on July 2-4 and more than 100 young Tibetans from 15 countries are attending the International Tibetan Youth Forum from July 3-5.
The major events leading up to the Dalai Lama's birth anniversary include a community prayer on July 5 led by the members of the 'Kashag', the cabinet of the Tibetan government.
"His Holiness the Dalai Lama will attend a long life prayer offered to him by the Kashag of the Central Tibetan Administration on behalf of all the Tibetan people in the morning at the Main Tibetan Temple," a statement by the Central Tibetan Administration said.
On the evening of July 5, a film "4 Rivers 6 Ranges" will be premiered. Directed by Shenpenn Khymsar, the film is a retelling of Tibet's struggle for independence.
On July 6, the 90th birthday celebration of the 14th Dalai Lama will take place with the launch of the "Year of Compassion".
Dignitaries including Union minister Kiren Rijiju, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, and Hollywood actor Richard Gere will attend the special ceremony.
During the week-long celebration, the issue of the Dalai Lama's successor has also come up.
The Dalai Lama is revered by Tibetan Buddhists as a living manifestation of Chenrezig, the Buddhist god of compassion.
The Tibetan spiritual leader on Wednesday affirmed that the sacred institution of the Dalai Lama will continue and only the Gaden Phodrang Trust will have the authority to recognise his future "reincarnation", declaring no one else can "interfere" in his succession plan.
China rejected the Nobel Peace laureate's succession plan, insisting that any future heir must receive its seal of approval, adding a new chapter to Tibetan Buddhism's decades-long struggle with the Chinese ruling Communist Party.
From 7-9 July, a three-day festivity will feature Tibetan arts, crafts, medicines, literature, religion, educational exhibitions, film festival, and medical camps organised by the departments of the Central Tibetan Administration.

'Proud to see our daughters breaking barriers and achieving success in agricultural science and technology. Out of 150 students conferred with gold medals, 115 were women students. Out of 445 Certificates of Merit, 334 were conferred to girls. Out of a total of 5,250 degrees of undergraduate, masters, PhD in today's convocation, 2,661 degrees have been awarded to women students. It reflects a bright future for J&K and the nation,' he said. Sinha also spoke on the transformative reforms taking place in agriculture and allied sectors in Jammu and Kashmir over the past few years. 'Under the visionary leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the agriculture and allied sector has truly become a mainstay of India's economy. This change is strongly reflected in J&K's agriculture landscape. Today, Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) has emerged as a role model of agricultural revolution in the entire country,' he said. Sinha also said that in the last five years, Jammu and Kashmir has set four major goals for agriculture and allied sector - to transform the agriculture sector into a sustainable-commercial agriculture economy, to create an agri-business ecosystem with value chain, farmer and community-centric approach for holistic development of agriculture and to increase the income of farming families and secure their livelihood. 'Your passion and ideas will shape the future of India's agriculture sector. Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. And, I firmly believe that if education is in accordance with the time and the needs of the global industry, then it is the most precious asset of the society,' he said. The LG also commended the vice chancellor and his team for developing modern, state of the art infrastructure and a new-age educational platform.

15th Tibetan religious conference concludes in Dharamshala
The 15th Tibetan Religious Conference concluded on Friday at McLeodganj in Dharamshala. Sikyong Penpa Tsering announced that the Central Tibetan Administration plans to compile these into a single publicatio. Besides participants, the closing ceremony was attended by chief guest speaker Khenpo Sonam Tenphel and Sikyong Penpa Tsering. At the beginning of the conference on July 2, the 14th Dalai Lama's video message was delivered in which the Tibetan spiritual leader affirmed the continuation of the institution of the Dalai Lama. During the closing ceremony, Sikyong Penpa Tsering, as the incumbent Kalon of the department of religion and culture — the organising department — addressed the gathering. Given the extensive number of formal documents—such as legislations, resolutions, statements, and declarations—issued by various groups from diverse communities, including the 15th Tibetan Religious Conference, Sikyong Penpa Tsering announced that the Central Tibetan Administration plans to compile these into a single publication. This compilation will serve as a testament to the widespread support for His Holiness the Dalai Lama's reincarnation process and the preservation of religious freedom for Tibetan Buddhism inside Tibet. According to Sikyong, the book will include formal declarations from followers of Tibetan Buddhism and supporters worldwide, across all levels of society. Sikyong also expressed optimism about the prospect of several governments issuing declarations in the coming days, reaffirming their support for non-interference in the reincarnation of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. 'As we celebrate this year as the Year of Compassion in honour of His Holiness' 90th birthday, we will exert our fullest efforts in advocating among pro-democracy and freedom-loving communities around the world. The goal is to compile all of these initiatives by the end of the Year of Compassion for future generations,' he said. Hyderabad: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh declared that the patience and restraint exhibited by the Armed Forces during 'Operation Sindoor' mirrored the very qualities of Alluri Sitarama Raju, who made an invaluable contribution to India's freedom struggle. Addressing an event organised under the aegis of the Union Ministry of Culture and Kshatriya Seva Sangham, marking the 128th birth anniversary of Alluri Sitarama Raju and the 103rd anniversary of the Rampa Rebellion, held here on Friday, the Defence Minister termed him a 'warrior-saint'. He invoked Alluri's moral clarity and grassroots leadership, drawing a direct line between his legacy and the ethos of India's modern defence and development strategy. 'Alluri Ji was not just a revolutionary; he was a movement. His guerrilla resistance, despite limited resources, remains a shining example of courage driven by principle. He taught us that standing up against injustice is not just a right, it is the nation's Dharma,' Mr Singh added. Referring to 'Operation Sindoor', he stated that the Indian Armed Forces displayed patience and restraint while dismantling terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), ensuring complete caution so that no civilian population was harmed. Rajnath Singh outlined the Government's vision of tribal empowerment, echoing Alluri's lifelong mission to uplift the most marginalised communities. He detailed recent government initiatives, such as the Prime Minister's Tribal Development Mission, Skill India, and the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Campaign, asserting that these are tangible steps towards integrating tribal communities with dignity and opportunity, rather than relying on charity. 'From being denied basic rights during colonial rule to becoming the guardians of sustainable growth today, our tribal brothers and sisters have come a long way, and we are committed to walking alongside them,' he added. The Union Defence Minister stressed that the Government's efforts were inspired not just by policy but by emotion and a deep commitment to the values Alluri lived and died for. 'His life was not just one of bravery, but of unity,' he said, underlining how Alluri transcended caste barriers and is remembered across India as a 'tribal warrior'. He described the birth anniversary celebrations as a reflection of India's journey under 11 years of transformative governance, and its resolve to achieve the goal of Viksit Bharat by 2047. Union Minister G Kishan Reddy welcomed Rajnath Singh, highlighting him as a great leader who has revitalised the national defence industry and showcased the strength of India's military through 'Operation Sindoor'. Kishan Reddy mentioned that places where Alluri lived and organised his revolt against the British were developing into tourist destinations with the Centre's support.
