Ranchi: For Raghib and Shabnam (name changed), their
honeymoon in Kashmir
was supposed to be the start of a beautiful chapter of their married life — a chance to explore new horizons together, surrounded by nature's splendour. It was their dream destination, and everything seemed perfect until a fateful twist of events turned their paradise into a nightmare.
Shabnam from Kanke and Raghib from Gaya in Bihar tied the knot on April 12. The couple, along with another newlywed couple, were on a five-day trip to Jammu and Kashmir and scheduled to return on April 22. They reached Pahalgam on April 20, two days before the attack by terrorists.
A visit to Baisaran was on their schedule. But they cut short their trip due to sore lower back from horse rides. What they blamed as a curse, turned out to be a blessing in disguise as they escaped the terror attack that occurred a day later.
Speaking to TOI, Raghib said, "We visited Aru Valley, Betaab Valley, and Chandanwari in Pahalgam before leaving for Srinagar on Monday. We could not visit Baisaran as the roads were in a dilapidated condition due to the previous day's rain."

" Our travel agent advised us to visit the meadow on Tuesday. But my wife and friend's wife were reluctant as we were suffering from sore backs due to hours spent on horseback," he added.
Still in shock, he uttered, "People from across the country and abroad were enjoying, without any hint of what was to unfold the next day."
"We were at Nishat Bagh in Srinagar when we got the news on social media. Shabnam and my friend's wife kept asking repeatedly — What if it was not them, but us?" Raghib said.
Their train from Jammu to Delhi was scheduled on April 23. But they could not catch the train and had to spend two days at their relative's place in Srinagar. They had to spend around Rs 70,000 to reach Ranchi from Srinagar on April 25, Raghib said.

Putting Kota on aviation map: Cabinet approves Rs 1,507-crore greenfield airport at Rajasthan's Kota-Bundi; to be ready in 2 years

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Tuesday approved the development of a greenfield airport at Kota-Bundi in Rajasthan at an estimated project cost of Rs 1,507 crore. The proposed airport, which is expected to be completed in around two years and will have the capacity to handle up to 2 million passengers annually, will primarily serve Kota—Rajasthan's prominent educational and industrial city. Kota currently has a small airport, which can handle very small aircraft and only a handful of passengers, rendering it unusable for regular commercial operations by airlines. The nearest major airport to Kota currently is the Jaipur airport, located at a distance of about 250 km. 'The existing (Kota) airport cannot be developed for commercial operations due to inadequate land availability and urbanization around the airport,' the government said in a release after Tuesday's CCEA meeting. The new Kota-Bundi airport will be a bit outside Kota, and will be developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) on a large land parcel provided free of cost by the Rajasthan government. The project will be funded through the internal accruals of the AAI. 'The Government of Rajasthan has transferred 440.06 hectares of land to AAI for development of a Greenfield Airport, suitable for operation of (Airbus) A-321 type aircraft. The project includes construction of a Terminal Building spanning an area of 20,000 sqm capable of handling 1,000 Peak Hour Passengers (PHP) with annual capacity of 2 Million Passengers Per Annum (MPPA), Runway 11/29 of dimensions 3200m x 45m, Apron with 07 parking bays for A-321 type aircraft, two Link Taxiways, ATC (air traffic control) cum Technical Block, Fire Station, car park and allied works,' the government said. With the capability to handle operations of A321-sized jets, the airport will be ready for domestic flights of all durations, and even short-haul international flights. Kota's prominence in educational and industrial sectors makes the greenfield airport a critical infrastructure project, aimed at addressing the anticipated traffic growth in the region, the government said. Kota falls on the key road route linking Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Delhi, and its growth as a major educational and industrial hub is being seen as an indicator of demand for air connectivity with regular commercial flight operations. The government, which has been making efforts to increase penetration of air travel in underserved or under-served areas, expects the new Kota airport to improve regional air connectivity and promote the local economy. Amid the government's push for regional air connectivity, the number of airports in India have more than doubled to 162 from 74 over the past 11 years. The country is already the world's third-largest domestic aviation market, and also the fastest-growing major aviation market, with the number of flyers increasing 41.2 crore this year from 16.8 crore in 2014.

Bihar Cabinet approves Five-Star hotels in Rajgir & Vaishali

Patna, Aug 19 (UNI) In a series of major decisions aimed at boosting tourism, education, and infrastructure, the Bihar government on today approved the construction of five-star hotels in Rajgir and Vaishali and reduced examination fees for competitive exams. The decisions were taken during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, where a total of 16 proposals were sanctioned. The cabinet during the meeting approved the establishment of three luxury hotels including two in Rajgir of Nalanda district and one in Vaishali under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Hotels would be constructed to provide world-class facilities to tourists visiting these historically significant destinations and enhance Bihar's image as a cultural and religious tourism hub. In a significant step for students and job seekers, the cabinet sanctioned a sharp reduction in exam fees for state-level competitive examinations. Candidates will now pay only Rs 100 for preliminary exams, while the fee for main examinations has been completely waived. This decision will apply to exams conducted by the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), Bihar Staff Selection Commission, Bihar Technical Service Commission, Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission, and the Central Constable Selection Board. To encourage and recognise government school teachers, the cabinet decided to double the incentive for recipients of the State Teacher Award. Teachers in primary, middle, secondary, and higher secondary schools will now receive Rs 30,000 instead of Rs 15,000. The government hopes the measure will boost teacher morale and improve educational outcomes. The cabinet also approved establishment of the Bihar Special Armed Police Battalion headquarters at Mauthabari in Banka district, transfer land to Bihar State Power Transmission Company for setting up a 132/33 KV grid sub-station at Chausa in Madhepura district, upgradation of the 19.43 km Salepur–Narsanda–Telmar–Karauta stretch on NH-30 from two lanes to four lanes, at a cost of Rs 539 crore. It sanctioned Rs 364 crore for a four-lane highway, including a Rail Over Bridge (ROB), providing direct access to the International Cricket Stadium in Rajgir and Rs 6 crore as one-time grants for 20 agricultural markets across the state.
