ITV Emmerdale fans 'rumble' new shop owner as Eric Pollard is forced to sell
ITV Emmerdale viewers are convinced they've worked out who will take over the village shop, following Eric Pollard's confession that he will have to sell the business
Emmerdale fans believe they've "cracked the case" of who will take over Eric Pollard's shop, and it's not David Metcalfe. The village shop has been a mainstay on the ITV soap since 2009, changing hands several times.
This included to David (Matthew Wolfenden), who departed the village in 2023. Currently, David's dad Eric (Chris Chittell) has taken over with Tracy Robinson (Amy Walsh) regularly manning the till. However, as fans of the ITV soap will be aware, recent events have led viewers to question how long Eric will remain in charge, given his health slipping lower.
Eric was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2023, and his condition has taken a turn for the worst in recent weeks. After a severe fall at home last week that landed him in hospital, Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) attempted to arrange a carer for his return home, reports Leicestershire Live.
Following an unsuccessful trial with a carer after Eric found them to be unsuitable, he reluctantly agreed to let Kerry look after him, on the condition she accepted payment.
If Eric didn't have enough to juggle with following the news of his health and his business hanging in the balance, he recently discovered his ex, Brenda Walker (Lesley Dunlop), won't be returning to the village following her departure back in April.
Brenda sent Eric a card for his 80th birthday on Wednesday's episode earlier this week, informing him that she plans to continue "rediscovering herself" on the worldwide cruise she won.
"I don't know why it is, but I always find a way to get rid of the ones that I really care for. I'm afraid, I'm a little bit too old for any change," Eric confessed.
During Thursday's gripping hour-long episode, Kerry and Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) organised an unexpected party for Eric at the shop.
Amid the celebrations, Kerry heard Eric relay to his mate Rodney Blackstock (Patrick Mower) his plans to flog the Wishing Well Barn and downsize.
Subsequently, Eric experienced a change of heart and disclosed to Kerry his new intention to lease out the Barn on the off chance Brenda might come back to the village.
"I've been thinking and I'm not going to sell. Despite what I said, there is the remotest possibility that Brenda might return. So, I'm going to rent it out and move next door," he said.
Eric proceeded to extend an invitation to Kerry to relocate with him and Jacob. Despite Eric's hesitancy to part with the shop, many Emmerdale fans are certain they have cracked who could take over in upcoming episodes, with quite a few proposing the fresh face Kammy Hadiq (Shebz Miah).
"Maybe Kammy's family will buy the shop, it's unusual to have a character in the soap and no house or family," speculated a user on a Facebook fan group.
Another chimed in: "I'd love to see more of Kammy, what if he buys the shop from Eric?" while another fan quipped: "Yes to the Kammy redemption storyline."
Elsewhere, a different viewer proposed: "Bet he lets Kerry have the shop," with yet another fan hoping: "I hope Eric doesn't sell the shop to Dawn and Joe."

Fern Britton addresses brutal sacking 'within a week' of job after disagreement
Our community members are treated to special offers, promotions and adverts from us and our partners. You can check out at any time. More info Fern Britton said she was brutally sacked from a presenting role after she confronted a boss. The former This Morning presenter reflected on the earlier stages of her career, when she claims there was "an awful lot of" misogyny in the industry. Fern, who started off as a newsreader, went on to host several programmes including; Breakfast Time in the 1980s, Ready Steady Cook from 1994 to 2000, and notably This Morning from 1999 to 2009. Speaking about her experiences with misogyny in the media, Fern, 67, commented: "At the time, I didn't realise, but there was an awful lot of putting women down, there was an awful lot of misogyny in newsrooms and you just sort of go, 'OK'. "I appreciate that young women don't accept that any more." Recounting a specific incident when she challenged a producer over poor instructions, she told The i Weekend: "I worked with a producer on a show years ago and she was giving me instructions that were utter nonsense. "So I went, 'This is rubbish, this isn't any kind of research, this is all wrong'. Within a week I was off that show." Additionally, Fern shared that she was let go from After Five, following an emotional moment on air. The presenter said she struggled to hold back tears during an interview with a terminally ill cancer patient, at a time when she was dealing with postnatal depression. Fern is widely recognised for her stint as a presenter on ITV's This Morning, sharing the screen with Phillip Schofield. Over the years, she's been quite open about the ups and downs of their friendship, a topic she touched upon once again during her time on Celebrity Big Brother last year. While discussing This Morning with ex-housemate Gary Goldsmith, Fern remarked: "It was tricky at times. "It is an institution that like the monarchy it rocks. I think Ben [Shephard] and Cat [Deeley] will do a great job. It's a new era." Upon hearing Gary suggest that there were whispers of Phillip entering the house, Fern appeared visibly concerned and responded: "Oh, well. That didn't happen yet. Maybe that will happen as a surprise? I might have to leave at that point!". (Image: Getty) Fern's stint on the ITV programme lasted until 2009, when Holly Willoughby took over her role. In a previous conversation with MailOnline regarding her departure, she insisted her exit was down to her deteriorating relationship with her co-host. When probed, she admitted: "To leave This Morning? Ultimately, yes. I loved it and I would probably still be there if... Phillip and I were not getting on very well at that stage." Phillip himself has reflected on their strained rapport in his 2020 autobiography Life's What You Make It. During a chapter, he said he tried to 'make things right' and that he 'missed her deeply'.

Cheating Coronation Street pair ‘exposed' as two legends witness their antics
There's been an irresistible attraction between Abi Webster (Sally Carman) and Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) ever since the latter arrived in Coronation Street. A small car accident in Freshco's car park saw sparks flying between the two as they flirted furiously, although Abi did point out at the outset that she was married. To her horror, the man she'd been flirting with turned up in the Street not long after, and she discovered that he was, in fact, Kevin (Michael Le Vell)'s brother who'd been living in Germany. Since then the two have tried to keep a lid on their feelings for each other, with Abi adamant that she won't do anything to hurt Kevin, who's going through cancer treatment. Carl hasn't given up, though, and seems to think it's only a matter of time before he and Abi are together. As Sally Carman told us: 'I'm reading [the scripts] thinking poor Kevin, but I'm also thinking poor Abi because she's really fighting it, telling him to go away and leave her alone but he's just pursuing her relentlessly.' There have been plenty of charged moments between the two, and any time they're in the same room together it's obvious to viewers that there are sparks between them. So far, however, they've managed to avoid these moments being noticed by anyone else. Until now. In upcoming episodes we'll see their guard slip and their behaviour around each other is noticed by the two people who are closest to them – Debbie (Sue Devaney), and Kevin himself. Oh 'eck. Poor Kevin is about to go for another chemo session and he's understandably feeling a bit fragile. He thanks Abi and Carl for their support, saying he couldn't cope as well as he is doing without them being in his corner. Abi and Carl exchange another awkward look – and this time Kevin notices. More Trending He doesn't say anything, but he's obviously a bit thrown by what he's just witnessed and he tries to make sense of it. Want to be the first to hear shocking EastEnders spoilers? The following day, Carl and Abi have one of their hushed conversations where Carl tries to persuade Abi that they're meant to be together and she shouldn't hesitate because of Kevin. This time the person who notices what's going on is Debbie. To make things even more awkward, Carl and Abi realise that Debbie has seen them having this conversation and they know she's sharp enough to put two and two together and she won't stand back and see Kevin get hurt. Holly Willoughby looks in good spirits as she enjoys girls' night in with Nicole Appleton - after two of her shows are axed just months apart
Holly Willoughby looked in high spirits as she enjoyed a girls' night in with her friend Nicole Appleton on Friday. The TV presenter, 44, was all smiles despite recent reports that two of her shows have been axed just months apart. Brushing off the drama, Holly appeared upbeat as she took to Instagram to share a glimpse of her fun-filled evening. In the snap, the former This Morning star couldn't contain her giggles as Nicole, 50, and her other pal Shiarra Bell leaned in for a playful selfie. She captioned the post with a love heart emoji and tagged her pals. From A-list scandals and red carpet mishaps to exclusive pictures and viral moments, subscribe to the Daily Mail's new showbiz newsletter to stay in the loop. It was recently revealed that Holly's Netflix show, Celebrity Bear Hunt, was axed after just one series, amid claims that it was too expensive to produce. This blow came just months after her other mainstream programme, Dancing On Ice, was rested back in March, while she also decided to step down from presenting duties on You Bet! The 44-year-old is now at a crossroads in her career, with the star also without an ITV show to host for the first time in over two decades. Having been the darling of TV for several years, Holly is still in huge demand with a plethora of options open to her as she navigates this tricky stage in her career. According to The Sun, one option could be the reboot of the classic series Record Breakers, which her TV producer husband Dan Baldwin, 50, is currently working on. A source told the production that Holly would be the 'perfect fit' for the show, which at present is in its early stages and currently does not have a channel attached. They explained: 'Record Breakers is likely to be a prime-time hit and it would make perfect sense for Holly to take the reins. She has worked alongside Dan before and the pair know what it takes to make great telly.' Meanwhile, Holly has also been linked to the revival of Cilla Black's Blind Date, alongside the likes of Claudia Winkleman and Davina McCall. Originally, rumours suggested the ITV hit would make a comeback on BBC but now sources claim the love-match show will reboot on Disney+. In March, Holly was tipped to become the next Cilla, with the presenter lining up a string of big-money deals worth up to £10million. The revival was previously being considered by Holly's husband Dan Baldwin, and the star had previously stepped into Cilla's shoes when she hosted a reboot of Surprise Surprise. An insider told The Sun at the time: 'There might not sound like obvious parallels between Holly and Cilla, but they're both two of the biggest stars of modern telly. 'Emulating Cilla isn't just about taking on her shows, it's as much about carving out a niche as a solo presenter with serious clout in the world of telly. 'But together with her husband Dan, they form the ultimate power couple in TV. She has the public appeal that gets viewers tuning in, while he has a track record of making hugely successful TV shows.' Elsewhere, it is said that the blonde beauty is also being eyed up for a new Channel 4 show, thought to be called Secret Singers, which hunts for raw and undiscovered singing talent. With it tipped to be a 'hugely popular' family show, the insider noted that showmakers are on the lookout for the 'perfect host', with Holly's current TV break being 'perfect timing'. According to The Sun, one option could be the reboot of the classic series Record Breakers, which her TV producer husband Dan Baldwin, 50, is currently working on (pictured on This Morning with Philip Schofield in 2019) MailOnline has contacted Holly's representatives for comment. Holly recently dashed ITV's hopes that she would be their Saturday night star by turning down a lucrative deal to front game show You Bet!. ITV sources told the Mail she was 'busy with other commitments' after Holly branched out to host Celebrity Bear Hunt in her first big role away from ITV. It is the first time that Holly has not had an ITV show on her schedule for the first time in more than two decades after becoming the broadcaster's TV darling. She has long been a familiar face on both ITV and ITV2, hosting shows including Surprise Surprise, Celebrity Juice, The Games, The Xtra Factor and I'm A Celebrity. Holly is arguably best known for having fronted This Morning alongside Phillip Schofield from 2009 until 2023, while she also helmed Dancing On Ice from 2006. However, ITV viewers now won't be able to get a dose of Holly as there has not yet been any public news of her having signed on to another project with the channel. In a huge blow to ITV, Holly then turned down a lucrative deal to front a new series of the classic game show You Bet! because of her other commitments. A source told the Mail: 'You Bet was so popular with the viewers wished it came back for two shows that ITV bosses decided to give it a full run. 'Holly and Stephen are a great double act and they were both brilliant so they were asked back. 'But Holly politely declined, she has other commitments and couldn't make it work. 'She is in demand and now she isn't shackled to This Morning four days a week, she is able to look at more options, some are global.'
