Fourways High School shows sporting prowess at derby
The event, hosted at Fourways High School, showcased the best school sports, hockey, rugby, and netball, emphasising growth, discipline, and camaraderie.
Seleka Tau, head of sport at Fourways High and first team hockey captain, explained the purpose of the event. 'Our initiative for this derby is for the Smile Foundation, to help children and families affected by facial conditions and burns. We are raising funds to help the patients.'
The hockey fixtures stood out for their balanced intensity and competitive spirit. Fourways High School emerged victorious across all their matches, demonstrating the strength and development of their hockey programme.

The day kicked off with the junior girls team delivering a commanding 5–0 win, setting an energetic tone for the afternoon.
The girls' first team fought valiantly, coming from behind to draw 1–1 after a hard-fought battle. Meanwhile, the boys' first team secured a narrow 1–0 victory, highlighting tactical discipline and determination.
Special recognition wents to Mabinty Koromo, whose standout performance in the junior girls' game earned her admiration and a spot on the U14B Southern Gauteng team.
Other notable players included: Kenzo Petersen, known for his consistency, Mikhail Herold, celebrated for his tenacity, and Emily Milne, the vice-captain of the 1st team and a provincial player, whose leadership continues to inspire.

Coach Anthony Clayton, head of extramurals, praised the teams, saying: 'The dedication and unity displayed today exemplify the best of our programme. We're proud of our players and look forward to building on this momentum. '
The rugby fixtures delivered adrenaline and heart, with several standout results. The U14A team continued their unbeaten run, crushing Bryanston 40–5 to cap an impressive season. The U14B team also secured a narrow 24–17 victory in a tightly contested match, showing promising development.
The U15 team celebrated a dominant 38–0 win, while the U16s narrowly lost 14–7 in a game that kept spectators on the edge of their seats, finishing with a 70% win record this season. The 2nd team added to the momentum with a solid victory, although the 1st team faced a tough 39–19 defeat, ending their streak against Bryanston.

The netball fixtures proved to be a spirited and competitive netball derby. Fourways won one match, had two draws, and lost eight.
Althea Vorster, head coach of netball, said: 'While the results weren't what we hoped for, the resilience and fighting spirit shown by our girls was truly commendable. We're proud of their efforts and remain motivated to grow and improve for next season.'

The highly anticipated Curro Halala Cup is set to kick off today [August 7] at HeronBridge College in Fourways, bringing together hundreds of young footballers from across South Africa's eight provinces. Over the next four days, these talented players will compete in a tournament that promises not only thrilling football but also an inspiring celebration of resilience, confidence, and community among the country's youth. Every goal, handshake, and Halala chant will be part of a bigger message: their futures are worth investing in. It's an opportunity for these students to be seen, to develop, and to dream big.' The tournament begins with 60 school teams representing eight regions, but today, the competition will narrow down to the final 16 schools. These teams will compete in a round-robin format, each striving to earn their place among the best in the country. Representatives from the Western Cape include Meridian Pinehurst and Camps Bay High School. The Free State will be represented by Grey College and Navalsig High School. From Limpopo, Meridian Northern Academy and Flora Park Comprehensive will showcase their skills. KZN will see Hillcrest High School and Glenwood High School competing, while Mpumalanga's schools will be Stintile Secondary and Barberton High School. Gauteng's teams include Curro Soshanguve, Clapham High School, Mondeor High School, and Norkem Park High School. The Eastern Cape will be represented by Brylin High School and Westering High School. The 16 teams will be divided into four pools of four teams each. Over the next few days, teams will play three round-robin matches within their pools. The top two teams from each pool will advance to the Cup knockout stage, where they will compete in quarterfinals, semifinals, and the final to determine positions one through eight. The remaining teams will participate in the Plate competition, playing additional matches to establish rankings from nine to 16. Potchefstroom recently played host to the NWU Primary Schools Prestige Hockey Tournament, where top U13 hockey teams from across the province gathered to compete. The event took place at North-West University's astro turf, bringing together schools, families, and coaches in a day filled with exciting matches and spirited support. Fourways High Sschool kicks off term 3 preparation at Camp Discovery Festival
Fourways High School's (FHS) soccer squads left for the annual Camp Discovery Soccer Festival in Limpopo's Dinokeng district on July 6. The festival, which draws schools from KwaZulu-Natal to Johannesburg, serves as a warm-up tournament ahead of the term 3 soccer season, while giving players a chance to test themselves against teams outside their usual league. 'We missed last year's camp and tournament, but we're back and doing our best against soccer schools from around the country,' said Anthony Clayton, head of extramurals at FHS. In the last match of the day, they secured a confident 3–0 win over Rangers, closing out the day with five wins out of seven games. An excellent effort by these youngsters as they continue to build momentum. Meanwhile, the U19 squad put up a spirited fight in a high-paced match against Curro Shoshanguve, narrowly losing 1–0 in what was described as a thrilling encounter.
