GWS Giants find form after concerning smashing
Having had 10 days to process the startling 88-point thumping by the Western Bulldogs, the Giants pulled away from the Kangaroos early on Sunday at Manuka Oval.
Leading by 58 points midway through the third quarter, GWS took the foot off the pedal in the 20.13 (133) to 12.7 (79) win.
Callum Brown led the Giants' goal-kicking with an equal career-high five, while former Essendon and Western Bulldogs star Jake Stringer was lively with three before he was tactically subbed out in the third term.
Young forward Aaron Cadman kicked four goals, moving to 42 for the season.
Cadman should have finished with at least five, but missed one chance when he inexplicably played on in the goal square and was caught holding the ball.
Midfielders Tom Green (25 disposals) and Finn Callaghan (31) were exceptional, making sure North's talented on-ball brigade didn't get the Kangaroos into the contest.
GWS moved to 14-7, ahead of games against Gold Coast and St Kilda to complete their home-and-away campaign.
Due to their percentage, the Giants may need to win both their remaining matches to be guaranteed of playing finals.
Set to finish in the bottom three, North were delighted with the debuts of Cooper Trembath and Geordie Payne.
Trembath made the most of his opportunities up forward, kicking an equal team-high three goals.

Trembath's family became emotional in the stands after the 19-year-old - a mid-season rookie draft selection this year - booted his first goal.
Former Sydney star Luke Parker continued his impressive first season with the Kangaroos, gathering 28 possessions and a team-high nine clearances.
North will have a chance to leapfrog Richmond into 16th on the ladder when they face the Tigers in Hobart next Sunday.

Bears LB Noah Sewell discussed goal-line stop vs. Dolphins
Early in Sunday's preseason matchup against the Miami Dolphins, Chicago Bears linebacker Noah Sewell, competing for a starting job, made a statement with his play. In the first quarter, as the Dolphins were threatening at the goal line and knocking on the door of scoring a touchdown, Sewell fired through the gap on fourth down and logged a tackle for loss, forcing a turnover on downs. Sewell's play kept the game scoreless early on and put an emphasis on his performance as he competes for the third linebacker spot alongside veterans T.J. Edwards and Tremaine Edmunds. Ending the game with six total tackles, Sewell's one tackle for loss came in one of the most crucial moments in the early stages of the game as he slammed the door on Miami's offense. Following the game, Sewell discussed his goal line stop and how the defense's mentality helped prepare him for that moment. "I knew what kind of situation we were in," Sewell said, via Bears on CHSN. "I was like somebody has to step up, why can't it be me? I just saw the gap open up and I shot my shot. After that play happened I just blacked out and celebrated, everyone was telling me good play, and then I remembered that it was a fourth down stop. Day in and day out, we attack the day the same. Physicality is highly preached in our defensive room so I just try to uphold that." Sewell's performance should give him an upper hand in the battle for the third linebacker spot early in preseason, and his development could be a fun surprise throughout this season. Hereford continue perfect start with four-goal home victory
HEREFORD Pegasus maintained their perfect start to the Hellenic League Premier Division campaign following a 4-1 win over Lydney Town AFC on Monday night at the KGD Stadium. Pegasus are flying high under new manager Jamie Pitman and took their third win in as many league games. The hosts opened the scoring in the first minute when captain Jordan Williamson met a Harrison Summers cross from the left-hand side of the penalty area at the far post. The lead was doubled after 20 minutes when Summers curled home a low shot from the edge of the penalty area. Pegasus netted again three minutes after the interval when Jack Creswell slotted home from close-range after a good passage of play by the home team around the Lydney Town penalty area. The visitors pulled a goal back after 65 minutes when Kyle Gibbs netted courtesy of a low 20 yard drive. However, Pegasus re-established their three-goal advantage within two minutes of the restart when Summers netted his second goal of the evening with a 25-yard strike to secure all three points. Pegasus are not top due to both Droitwich Spa and Corsham Town having played an additional league match. It was a weekend to forget for Westfields who fell to a 4-0 defeat at Mangotsfield United. United opened the scoring in the fourth minute before scoring a second on 40 minutes, but also seeing a penalty saved before the break. The game then got away from Fields and two further goals came before the death. This weekend only Hereford Pegasus are in league action with a game at Highworth Town, as FA Cup fixtures are also taking place.

Former Newcastle winger Allan Saint-Maximin makes his next move, this time to Mexico
MEXICO CITY (AP) — Allan Saint-Maximin's wide-ranging career is taking him to Mexico. The former Newcastle winger signed a contract with Club America, the top-tier Mexican team said Tuesday. The 28-year-old Saint-Maximin arrives in the Liga MX after a one-year stint with Turkey's Fenerbahce where he played on loan from Saudi Arabia's Al Ahli. America, the winningest club in Mexico with 16 league titles, did not disclose further details about the contract. Local media reported a two-year deal worth around $10 million. Saint-Maximin is the second French player to play for Club America. Jeremy Menez, who won the Apertura 2018 championship with the club, was the first. The most successful French player in Mexican league history is Andre-Pierre Gignac, who has won five league titles with the UANL Tigres and scored 209 goals in all competitions since arriving in Mexico in 2015. Saint-Maximin, a former France youth international, debuted with Saint-Etienne in his home country, moved to Monaco and Nice, and in 2019 to Newcastle in the Premier League, where he spent four seasons. He scored 13 goals across 124 appearances for the Magpies, but struggled with injuries. ___ AP soccer:
