Tipperary All-Ireland homecoming: Rain pours as ‘delighted' fans await hurling heroes

Yvonne Meehan, her children Hanna and Aoife, and husband Donal, made the journey from Borrisoleigh. 'Loving it. We were at the match yesterday so it's fabulous,' said Yvonne.
'It's so great to be able to see all the crowds here. We are delighted to be sitting and not getting wet either,' Yvonne said. The match was 'fabulous'. 'It was such a buzz. They all got together and they were a real team.'
Darragh McCarthy and Oisin O'Donoghue are Hanna's favourite players. 'Darragh is really good for the points and Oisin is great for the goals.'
Fran Curry of Tipp FM is whipping up the crowds: 'It's a sea of blue and gold out there. There are two fellas called the Two Johnnies out there. Give a special welcome to Una Healy from her home town.'
Playing the guitar, singer songwriter Una's set went down a treat with the crowds, kicking off with an old favourite, This is the Life by Amy McDonald. Una's last tune was Guns N' Roses ballad, Sweet Child O' Mine.
Oasis tribute band Acquiesce were earlier on the main stage in Semple Stadium for the big homecoming, and the crowds were getting soaked with rain. Typical Irish weather – the umbrellas are out but the rain can't dampen this party.
It's understood that the main speeches, from Tipperary captain Ronan Maher and manager Liam Cahill, currently scheduled at 8.01pm and 8.15pm respectively, may be later than advertised, and go ahead instead at around 8.30pm.
Excitement was building in Semple Stadium throughout the day for the homecoming of Tipperary's triumphant senior hurling team which put Cork to the sword in Sunday's All-Ireland Hurling Final.
The estimate is that around 30,000 fans from across the Premier County are flooding into the FBD Semple Stadium, with around 15,000 already on the pitch before the main stage at 6.30pm. Queues formed at the front gates from 4pm with Tipperary band Seskin Lane coming on stage to perform first at 4.40pm.
Seskin Lane bass guitarist and band member Shelly Martin is the granddaughter of Paddy Kenny, who won four hurling All Ireland finals with Tipperary. Paddy lived in Thurles, in Croke Street.
Fans and families continued to gather around the main stage, as Tipperary trad band Cailíní Nua took to the stage at 5.20pm – one of the quartet is 2024 Tipperary Rose Tara Brady. The atmosphere is electric and the craic is ninety. Sport at its finest.

Overall, it's looking like festivalgoers could be in for a weekend of mild weather and relatively high temperatures. The rain will clear to the east in the afternoon, followed by sunny spells and isolated showers with highest temperatures of 16 to 22 degrees. What can I bring? What many people will probably be most concerned about is how much alcohol they can bring with them. All Together Now has a limit of either 24 cans, one litre of spirits or 1.5 litre of wine for personal consumption. Pre-packaged and precooked food is allowed on-site. The festival organisers strongly recommend bringing necessities for any weather event - think waterproofs, wellies, hats, scarves, sun cream and sunglasses. Most importantly, you will need to bring your ticket, as well as photo ID, a reusable water bottle, a sleeping bag, tent, toilet roll, bank card and toiletries. What can I not bring? No glass bottles are permitted, with the All Together Now team also asking festival-goers to leave any single-use plastic bottles behind and to decant their alcohol into reusable containers. Festival-goers are not permitted to cook onsite or bring any BBQ or gas cookers. Organisers have warned that gazebos are banned and will be removed by staff. Professional photography equipment is also not permitted. The festival is a fully cashless event, so don't bring coins or notes with you as they will not be accepted. For the full list of what you can and can't bring, visit the All Together Now website. What facilities are available? There will be phone charging facilities available on site throughout the weekend, but a powerbank is often an essential item. Toilets will be located throughout the campsites and festival arenas, and showers will be located in the campsites. A varied selection of food stalls will be on-site, as well as a supermarket.

Doherty and de la Macorra triumph in Ballinasloe

Galgorm Castle golfer Adam Doherty claimed the Irish U16 Boys' Amateur Open Championship after a thrilling victory in Ballinasloe. The 15-year-old went into the third round trailing fellow Ulster teenager and reigning champion, Eoin Burrows, by a single shot. But he rallied and a closing 73 helped him to secure the win on -4, just ahead of Ballinasloe native Niall Conneely. The local golfer shot rounds of 70 and 71 on Wednesday to get right back into contention but fell just short. Burrows (Belvoir Park) also finished on -3 in front of Mark Muldoon (Royal Dublin) and Luke Furlong (Wexford) a shot further behind. Doherty was too strong and despite registering two double bogeys during his third round, he bounced back with four birdies and that helped him to his first Irish title. July was a huge month on the golf course for Doherty, he finished fourth in the Ulster U18 Boys' Amateur Open Championship before representing Ireland for the first time in the McGregor Trophy, and he was thrilled to take another step in the right direction. 'Just absolutely delighted, it was tough going down the stretch, managed to keep my game in good shape,' said Doherty. 'It has been the best month of my golfing career. Absolutely loved every minute of it. 'Interpros tomorrow, first round is against Connacht so I'm looking forward to that.' Irish U14 winner Eduardo de la Macorra celebrates with the Cup. Picture: Ryan Byrne/Inpho Corrstown golfer Eduardo de la Macorra won the Irish U14 Boys' Amateur Open Championship after two solid rounds of 72 over the two days. Holywood's Henry Campbell was in the ascendency after Round 1 when he registered a 70 but the Spaniard held his nerve on Wednesday to finish on level par. Scottish golfer Fraser MacKenzie (Inverness) finished two shots in arrears on +2 alongside Sean Nolan (Dun Laoghaire). Campbell was back on +4 with Aodhán Fitzgerald (Galway) and Darragh Dwyer (Ashbourne). De la Macorra had two birdies on his front nine and despite closing with bogeys on 16 and 17, a par on the final hole was enough to seal the win.

Stranger than fiction: Hollywood hookups we can't believe actually happened

If there's one thing more unpredictable than a pop chart in the age of TikTok, it's celebrity romance. Hollywood has always loved a plot twist, but even the most clued-in pop culture commentators did a collective double take this week when Katy Perry was spotted dining with none other than Justin Trudeau. Yes, that Justin Trudeau, the recently single former Prime Minister of Canada. Following her public split from longtime partner Orlando Bloom, Perry appeared relaxed and radiant alongside Trudeau at cozy Montreal restaurant Le Violon. If there's one thing more unpredictable than a pop chart in the age of TikTok, it's celebrity romance. Pic:. The photo's sparked a flurry of speculation, memes, and international intrigue. It's not every day a pop superstar and an ex-world leader get cozy, but here we are. While reps for both parties did not immediately respond to a request for comment, the internet has done anything but stay quiet. Honestly, who can blame us? It's a pairing no algorithm or celebrity publicist could've predicted, but stranger things have happened in tinseltown. In honor of this eyebrow-raising rendezvous, we're taking a look back at the strangest celebrity romantic pairings that made us ask: How did this happen… and why do I kind of love it? Following her public split from longtime partner Orlando Bloom, Perry appeared relaxed and radiant alongside Trudeau at cozy Montreal restaurant Le Violon. Pic: Justin Tang/The Canadian Press via AP In early January 2023, Angelina Jolie and her teenage daughter Shiloh were spotted enjoying a cozy coffee break with Irish actor Paul Mescal at the café adjacent to London's Almeida Theatre, where he was starring in A Streetcar Named Desire. Jolie had brought Shiloh to see Mescal's performance and, afterward, the trio sat together chatting, prompting immediate buzz of an unlikely Hollywood pairing. Despite tabloid speculation linking the two romantically amid Mescal's rumored split from Phoebe Bridgers, insiders quickly clarified that the meeting was purely platonic. Still, the image of Jolie and the Normal People star sipping coffee together remains one of the more unexpected celebrity crossovers of the year. Pic: Luca Carlino/NurPhoto/REX/Shutterstock Few celebrity pairings have melted brains and ignited Reddit threads quite like Grimes and Elon Musk. The avant-garde art-pop musician and the tech billionaire reportedly connected over a shared joke on Twitter in 2018, and the rest was history. What followed was three oddly named off spring Æ A-12 initially before the couple announced a 'semi-separation' in 2021. They then went on to have two more children—Exa Dark Sideræl (via surrogate) and Techno Mechanicus. Honestly we're exhausted trying to figure them out. Pic: Dia Dipasupil/WireImage Before Rihanna was a billionaire mogul and mom of two, and before Shia LaBeouf leaned fully into his chaotic performance-artist era, the two shared one of the most blink-and-you-missed-it flings in celebrity dating history. In a 2009 interview, LaBeouf revealed that he and Rihanna went on a date after she texted him first, her team had reportedly passed along his number, and curiosity did the rest. The two met up for drinks and dinner in Los Angeles, but according to Shia, 'the spark wasn't there,' and they both agreed to keep it friendly. While it ended with zero drama and minimal headlines, the image of Rihanna sipping a cocktail across from LaBeouf in 2007 remains one of the most deliciously unlikely what-ifs in pop culture lore. Whitby/Getty Images Long before he was jumping on Oprah's couch or hanging from the side of a moving plane for Mission Impossible, Tom Cruise was actually one of Cher's post-divorce flings. The year was 1985, and Cruise was a rising star fresh off Risky Business, while Cher was already a music and film icon with nothing to prove. They met at Sean Penn and Madonna's wedding and reconnected at a White House event for dyslexia awareness, where sparks quietly flew. 'It was a great romance,' Cher later said in interviews, even ranking Cruise in her 'top five' lovers. The age gap (she was 38, he was 23), the fame mismatch, and the pure oddity of the pairing made it one of Hollywood's most delicious secrets for years.
