Kunal Jain, an Indo-American social entrepreneur, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a photo of the Indian student who was being deported from Newark Airport last night. He said the student was crying and was treated like a criminal by the authorities, as he was handcuffed and pinned to the ground.

'As an NRI, I felt helpless and heartbroken. This is a human tragedy," Jain wrote on X.
Jain, President of HealthBots AI, said that the student was speaking in the Haryanvi language. 'I could recognise his accent where he was saying 'I'm not insane, these people are trying to make me look insane'," he wrote.
In the post, Jain said, 'These children get their visas and get on a flight in the morning. For some reason, they are unable to explain the reason for their visit to the immigration authorities and are sent back on the evening flight tied up like criminals. Every day 3-4 such cases are happening. There have been more such cases in the last few days."

The fallout included a physical altercation with Mr Trump's tariff honcho, Mr Scott Bessent, whose attempt at a parliamentary rebuttal ostensibly left Mr Musk with a black eye. The new regime under Mr Trump has taken sweeping decisions to target its own population, deport legal citizens, silence dissent, and punish anyone perceived to be disloyal, while the courts – once heralded as the guardians of the Constitution – mutely watch on. Questions must be raised as to whether a country like the United States of America is a fit choice for global events, like the next football World Cup – set to be held in 2026 – when it can't even adhere to the basic norms that citizens of democracies take for granted.

Goyal begins visit to Switzerland and Sweden to deepen trade ties, focus on India-EFTA pact
New Delhi: Amid ongoing negotiations for the Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) with the US, commerce and industry minister Piyush Goyal on Monday began a five-day official visit to Switzerland and Sweden, aimed at strengthening India's economic and trade ties with key European partners. The visit, which runs from 9 to 13 June, is expected to advance negotiations on the India-EFTA trade agreement and explore new avenues for investment in sectors such as precision engineering, pharmaceuticals, and sustainable technologies, as per a commerce ministry statement. However, the official release does not mention the inclusion of a business delegation with the minister, despite an earlier announcement by Goyal during his address at the CII Business Summit in New Delhi on 29 May, where he had indicated that a delegation of Indian industry leaders would travel with him to explore partnership opportunities. In Switzerland, Goyal will hold sector-specific meetings with global CEOs and senior officials from industries including life sciences and high-tech manufacturing. He is also scheduled to meet federal councillor Guy Parmelin, Swiss companies, and Indian industry representatives to push forward discussions on the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (Tepa), which is seen as a critical pillar of India's strategy to diversify trade partnerships and reduce reliance on traditional markets, the statement said. The commission meeting will serve as a platform to review the current economic cooperation and identify new areas of collaboration, the ministry said. In Sweden, bilateral meetings are also lined up with Håkan Jevrell, state secretary to the minister of development cooperation and foreign trade, as well as CEOs of major Swedish firms, including Volvo Group, Ericsson, IKEA, Sandvik, Alfa Laval, and SAAB, the ministry said. Discussions are likely to focus on green technologies, advanced manufacturing, and innovation—areas where Sweden has global leadership and where India is aiming to accelerate its industrial transition.

During his visit to Belgium, the EAM would also meet the senior leadership of Belgium besides interacting with the members of the Indian community. "India-European Union strategic partnership has strengthened over the years across diverse sectors and got a big boost with the first-ever visit of the EU College of Commissioners to India in February this year. During the visit, EAM will be holding a Strategic Dialogue with the EU High Representative and Vice President Kaja Kallas, and will engage with the senior leadership from the European Commission and the European Parliament, besides interacting with think tank and media," read a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on EAM's visit. He will also engage with the senior leadership of France, and interact with think tanks and media," the MEA detailed.
