
Two dead, over 300 injured in Dahi Handi festivities in Mumbai
Of the 318 persons injured in Mumbai, only 24 were under treatment, including a nine-year-old boy. The remaining 294 people were discharged after treatment on Saturday (August 16, 2025).
The Dahi Handi festival, celebrated a day after Krishna Janmashtami, involves a group of men and women forming a human pyramid to break an earthen pot with curd in it, tied to a hanging rope.
Officials of the BMC said that 135 persons were injured in Mumbai, of whom 119 have been discharged and 16 are still under treatment, including one person in a critical condition. In the eastern suburbs, of the 72 injured, two are still under treatment, while 70 have been discharged. In the Western suburbs, 111 were injured, with 105 discharged, and six under treatment, including one person in critical condition.

Five people were electrocuted to death and four others left critically injured during Krishna Janmashtami celebrations in Hyderabad after a chariot came into contact with an overhead electric wire. As a result, five people were electrocuted. Two others were critically injured, and it is reported that one of them has also died. I have come here for a site inspection.' He further added, 'This matter will be taken to the notice of the government, and I will discuss it with the Deputy Chief Minister regarding an enquiry and ex-gratia or benefits to the families of the deceased. A detailed enquiry will certainly be conducted, and action will be taken against whoever is responsible for allowing the conductor to come in contact with the wire.'Expressing his grief, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao said, 'I am deeply shocked to learn about the tragic incident that occurred at Gokhale Nagar, Ramanthapur in Hyderabad. It is extremely painful that five lives were lost due to an electric shock during the Sri Krishna Janmashtami celebrations.'He further said, 'The death of Krishna Yadav, Srikanth Reddy, Suresh Yadav, Rudra Vikas, and Rajendra Reddy in this mishap is truly heartbreaking. I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I urge the government to provide support and relief to the families of the deceased. I sincerely wish for the speedy recovery of the four people who were seriously injured and are undergoing treatment in the hospital. I also request the government to ensure proper medical care for the injured. Five men electrocuted to death, four others injured during Krishna Shobha Yatra in Hyderabad
Five devotees died and four others were injured after a chariot in the Sri Krishna Shobha Yatra came into contact with an overhead electric wire in RTC Colony, Ramanthapur, late on Sunday (August 17, 2025). The deceased were identified as Krishna alias Diamond Yadav, 21, Srikanth Reddy, 35, Suresh Yadav, 34, Rudra Vikas, 39 and Rajendra Reddy, 45, all residents of Old Ramanthapur area. 'They were heading towards Sri Krishna temple in the locality from their neighbourhood and were supposed to head back. While they were on their way to the temple, their vehicle broke down. They decided to carry the chariot manually when the mishap occurred, around 200 metres from the temple,' said the Inspector of Uppal police, K. Bhaskar. The mishap was reported around midnight during a Krishna Janmashtami procession being carried out by locals. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, where five were declared dead on arrival. Their bodies were later shifted to Gandhi Hospital for postmortem examination, while the others remain under treatment. The Uppal police registered a case and initiated an investigation.
